1 Data Sheet Trend Connect Managed Connectivity Solution Sierra Wireless Raven XE Description Trend Connect is a managed connectivity solution that utilises mobile communications to remotely connect to Trend devices such as, EINC and 3Extend/EINC L. This remote connection is achieved using a High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) connection, or a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) connection where 3G connectivity is unavailable. The solution uses a Sierra Wireless Airlink Raven XE gateway (modem) to provide a secure and reliable network connection to remote devices, using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). The VPN infrastructure and connection are managed by Trend Control Systems, reducing the administration resource and commissioning time. The connection provided allows the full use of Trend software such as 963 and System Engineering Tool (SET), and enables Trend s post-occupancy services such as IQEYE, imat, remote alarm monitoring, and 24/7 remote support. The Trend Connect managed network enables full administration and reporting of the connected Trend site to be carried out. Access to the site is through a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection, using an internet connection provided by the HSPA (3G) or GPRS connection. The VPN connection is configured by Trend to access only the relevant user s site(s). There are three methods of connecting to the remote site; VPN Agent, VPN Client and Trend Connect Modem. The solution that best fits your requirements will be suggested by your Trend representative, after careful analysis of your needs. The VPN Agent and VPN Client solutions both allow you to connect, over the internet, to the remote Trend network over the VPN. The only difference is that the VPN Agent software automatically connects to the remote site every time the PC on which it is installed is switched on. This is useful for remote alarm monitoring using 963. The VPN Client must be manually connected by the user when it is required. With the Trend Connect Modem solution, a modem is connected to the PC or network where you wish to remotely connect from, as well as a Raven XE modem being connected to the remote site. This forms a modem to modem connection, without the need for a VPN connection. 2 Trend Connect Data Sheet Functionality System The Sierra Wireless Raven XE modem is connected to the network using a standard RJ45 cable, either directly to a Trend device, or via a hub, switch or router. This is performed by the on-site Trend or TTC engineer. The hardware can be connected to a 3xtend/EINC L or EINC to provide access to and controllers, as shown below. Raven XE modem The only configuration that needs to be done by the on-site engineer is to set the default router (gateway) of the Trend device to be the IP address of the Raven XE modem. The modem is then configured remotely by Trend Energy & Support Solutions Team (ESST) to connect to the Trend device (EINC, 3Extend/EINC L or ) using the modem s IP address plus the IP address and port numbers of the Trend device, as supplied by the on-site engineer. When connecting to, only one controller needs to be connected to the modem as all controllers communicate with each other on the Lan. Once Trend Connect is installed and configured, SET and 963 are able to connect in the normal way. IP alarms can be sent from the controllers in the normal way over the VPN connection, provided the VPN is connected to. There are 3 ways of connecting to the remote site; VPN Client, VPN Agent and Trend Connect Modem solutions. These are described in detail below. VPN Agent Solution This solution allows you to connect, over the internet, to the remote Trend site over a secure VPN. A PC running 963 or SET can access the remote site over the VPN. The VPN Agent automatically connects to the remote site every time the PC on which it is installed is switched on. This is useful for remote alarm monitoring using 963. With this solution, a Raven XE modem is connected to the remote site and all that is required on the PC is an internet connection and the VPN Agent software. There is 1 license included in the package for the software, however additional licenses can be obtained on request (extra charges apply). 3 Data Sheet Trend Connect VPN Client Solution This solution connects to the remote network in the same way as the VPN Agent. The only difference is that the VPN connection to the remote site is not made automatically when the PC is switched on; the user must connect to the VPN Client manually if they wish to access the remote site. With this solution, a Raven XE modem is connected to the remote Trend site and all that is required on the PC is an internet connection and the VPN Client software. There is 1 license included in the package for the software, however additional licenses can be obtained on request (extra charges apply). SET or 963 Raven XE modem VPN Client HSPA INC 3Extend/EINC L or EINC INC Trend Connect Modem Solution With the Trend Connect Modem solution, a local modem is connected to the PC or network from which you are remotely connecting, as well as a Raven XE modem connected to the remote site. The default gateway of the PC from which you are connecting must be set to the local modem s IP address. The configuration at the remote site remains the same as for the other solutions. The on-site engineer sets the default gateway of the remote Trend device to be the IP address of the remote Raven XE modem, then Trend ESST configures the remote modem to communicate with the remote device. This solution forms a modem to modem connection, without the need for a VPN connection. Therefore, no license is required for this solution. 4 Trend Connect Data Sheet Hardware The Trend Connect base package comprises: Sierra Wireless Raven XE modem M2M SIM card (pre-installed in modem) Puck antenna with 3 metre lead Power lead with set of AC adapters for each region An RJ45 cable (not supplied) is also required to connect to the Trend system. Modem: The Raven XE is an gateway which provides a secure network connection to remote Trend devices. There are three connections used on the modem: port Antenna connection DC power connection (regional AC power adapters supplied) SIM card: The Machine to Machine (M2M) SIM card is pre-installed in the modem and is complete with 24 months of connectivity, including 100MB of data. This limit can be exceeded but additional charges will be incurred. Antenna: A puck antenna is supplied as standard. It comes with a 3-metre lead and has a bolt-through mount (a secure mounting kit can be ordered, see order codes at end of this document). It is not intended for use within close proximity of the human body and should be mounted at a distance of at least 20 cm from the operator. Software VPN Agent: The VPN Agent provides secure access to the remote Trend network. Once the software has been installed, it must be connected to using a username and password. After it has been connected to, the VPN Agent establishes a VPN connection to provide remote access to the Trend site via the Raven XE modem. The VPN Agent automatically connects to the VPN and the remote site every time the PC on which it is installed is switched on. This is useful for remote alarm monitoring using 963. The VPN Agent software runs as a background Windows task and uses minimal disk space and memory. See the specifications at the end of this document for operating system requirements. VPN Client: The VPN Client provides the same access and functionality as the VPN Agent, but the user must connect to the VPN manually. See the specifications at the end of this document for operating system requirements. A panel antenna can also be supplied as an optional extra. This can be mounted farther from the modem and receives a stronger radio signal than the puck antenna which comes as standard. (See product order codes at end of document). Power lead: The power lead comes with European and US AC adapters so the modem can be powered from most regions, without the need for obtaining a regional adapter. 4 Trend Connect Data Sheet TA Issue 2, 26-Oct-2012

5 Data Sheet Trend Connect Compatibility IQ System: Trend Connect can communicate with any controller (and multiple webpages), and any and through a Trend product such as 3Extend/EINC L or EINC. Supervisors and Tools: 962, 963, SET. Installation Note that installation is undertaken by the on-site Trend or TTC engineer. The procedure is as follows: 1. Mount antenna and connect antenna to modem. 2. Connect RJ45 cable to modem and relevant point on Trend network. 3. Attach correct AC adapter for region to power lead. 4. Connect power lead to modem, plug into mains socket and switch on. 5. Enter Default Router setting in Trend device (EINC, 3Extend/EINC L or ) to be modem s IP address. 6. Trend remotely configure Trend device to communicate with modem, using modem s IP address and subnet mask, plus IP address and port numbers of Trend device, supplied by on-site engineer. 6 Trend Connect Data Sheet Field Maintenance The Sierra Wireless Raven XE requires virtually no routine maintenance. However, Trend Control Systems offer ongoing maintenance of the modem and support for the remote connection supplied. Warning: Contains no serviceable parts. Opening the unit exposes hazardous voltages. DISPOSAL WEEE Directive: At the end of their useful life the packaging and product should be disposed of by a suitable recycling centre. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are supported. The VPN Agent runs as a background Windows task and has minimal space and memory requirements.
