Nagios Core AMI Setup Guide

1 1.0 Overview Nagios Core provided by System Sector is an Ubuntu Amazon Machine Image (AMI) that has a pre-configured version of Nagios Core. This AMI is a production-level product that allows users to deploy Nagios Core in a few clicks. 2.0 Access Nagios Core EC2 Instance: Access via browser: 1. In the EC2 Dashboard, locate either the Public DNS or Public IP for your EC2 instance, under the Description tab: Systemsector.com Page 1

2 2. To access the admin site, go to 3. The credentials are: Login: nagiosadmin Password: <Instance ID, WITHOUT THE DASH> You can locate the Instance ID in the EC2 dashboard, under the Description tab: Systemsector.com Page 2

3 3.0 Access via SSH 1. If you do not have Putty installed, go to the following Website and install it: 2. Click the Installer link (putty-0-63-installer.exe) to install everything: 3. During the deployment of the Nagios Core EC2 instance, you should have generated and downloaded a.pem file. You will need its location for the next step. 4. Convert your.pem file to a Putty Private Key file (.ppk): a. Open the PuTTYgen program: Systemsector.com Page 3

4 b. Ensure that the "key type to generate" and number of bits are configured as in the figure below. Once configured, click the Load button: c. Browse to the.pem file. Note: Ensure that you are searching for the All File (*.*) type: Systemsector.com Page 4

5 d. Click OK to acknowledge the importation of the foreign key: e. Click the Save private key button Systemsector.com Page 5

6 f. Click Yes to save the key without a passphrase to protect it: g. Name and save the ppk file: h. Close the PuTTY Key Generator: 5. Open Putty to connect to your EC2 instance: Systemsector.com Page 6

7 6. For Session, enter 7. For Connection -> SSH -> Auth, browse to the ppk file and click the Open button: Systemsector.com Page 7

You should see the following screen after successfully connecting to your EC2 instance via SSH: For further documentation, go to: Domain Name Do you own a domain name that you want to associate with your EC2 instance? If so, you can use Route 53 to associate your domain name with your EC2 instance. 1. In your AWS console, under Networking, select Route 53: Systemsector.com Page 8

9 2. At this point, you can either transfer or register a domain. Refer to Amazon's documentation for more details. 3. After transferring or registering a domain, select Hosted Zones, your domain, and the Go to Record Sets buttons: 4. Select the Create Record Set button: Systemsector.com Page 9

10 5. For Name, enter www. For Value, enter either the instance's Public IP or Elastic IP.
