2 Software Defined Networking (SDN) Short Description In current scenario, a typical router includes both control plane and data plane functions. The control plane functions have grown (and growing) to be too complex over the years. This makes the box expensive and unmanageable. Software Defined Network offers a least disruptive solution to address this issue: Control function is made to operate offnetwork-node with a standard interface (OpenFlow) to data plane function that is on-node. Course Synopsis: This course provides hands-on introduction to Software Defined Network (SDN). The target audience is Development, Quality, and Support Engineers. Course includes all the necessary tools to develop and control Software Defined Networks: Mininet, OpenFlow VSwitch, Open Flow Controllers, Python Scripts to define networks, etc. Prerequisite A strong foundation in TCP/IP Networking, especially Router S/W and H/W Architecture and Functional Features. Target Audience Group Networking Professionals in Various functional groups: Development, Support, Verification, and other roles with Networking as their core area of business. 2 Course Outcome: At the end of this course one should be able to write controller code as well as code for Mininet Network emulation for simple and complex networks. Some simple switch configurations are demonstrated in the class. Note: Bullet items with Blue colour font are hands/demonstration.
