Introduction Set Up AT&T Business Ready and Assign Users Take Inventory and Pack Contents Installation Overview Additional Resources Introduction This guide shows you how to install your new AT&T Business Ready equipment and points you to additional resources that can help you get started with Business Ready. Set Up AT&T Business Ready and Assign Users After your equipment arrives, you set up your users in AT&T Business Ready by: Assigning a phone number. Assigning a station. Assigning phone equipment. To set up a user, follow the steps outlined in Assign Stations and Phones to Users. Take Inventory and Unpack Contents To confirm that your shipment is accurate and complete, review your order and shipping documents. If you require additional equipment or have questions about your shipment, please notify your implementation coordinator or call and select option 2. Depending on your order details, the equipment may include some of the following items:
Polycom SoundPoint IP 335 Phone Base Unit, Handset, and Phone Cord Phone Stand Ethernet Cord AC Power Adapter (Power cord not shown) Polycom VVX 300 Phone Base Unit, Handset, and Phone Cord Phone Stand Ethernet Cable AC Power Adapter (Power cord not shown)
BroadSoft PacketSmart PI-100 Device Appliance Base Unit AC Power Adapter Ethernet Cord Cisco Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) Optional Switch ATA Unit AC Power Adapter Ethernet Cord Varies by Model Optional Expansion Switch AC Power Adapter Ethernet Cord
Installation Overview For a successful AT&T Business Ready installation, follow these guidelines: Make sure the placement of your BroadSoft PacketSmart device and optional expansion switches is correct. o It s important that the PacketSmart device is installed so that all Business Ready phone lines and equipment obtain IP network connectivity through the PacketSmart device. For an example of a correct installation, see the Install PacketSmart PI-100 Device and Expansion Switch section for an example of a correct installation. Plan how you ll connect your phones and analog telephone adapters (ATAs) to the network: o For multiple devices, make sure each line has an accessible network connection. o For each Voice over IP (VoIP) device, decide whether you ll use an AC power adapter or Power over Ethernet (PoE). Connection instructions are included in the box for each device. ATAs must be powered by an AC adapter. To use PoE, connect the device to a PoE-enabled interface on a compliant switch or router. o For multiple devices of the same type, install each device with a dedicated Internet connection. You can connect a computer and a Business Ready phone or ATA on the same connection, but you can't connect multiple Business Ready phones or ATAs on the same connection. o For an analog phone or fax device on an ATA, note which devices are attached to Phone 1 and Phone 2 to make sure phone numbers are assigned correctly. For Business Ready to work at your location, your network must meet certain requirements so that the service functions as expected. These requirements apply to both Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) phones and analog adapters (SIP devices). For details about how to configure your network for optimal performance, contact your AT&T sales representative or AT&T Support at Install PacketSmart PI-100 Device and Expansion Switch The PacketSmart device helps you have the highest quality voice service. When necessary, it also helps our technical support teams to troubleshoot any service issues
you might experience. It s crucial that you install the PacketSmart device at a point in the network where all Business Ready devices are accessing the Internet through the PacketSmart device as shown in the figure below. A router or expansion switch typically connects to Port A of the PacketSmart device as shown below. Connect each Business Ready phone and ATA to a port on the switch or router. Important Information: PacketSmart PI-100 Device Pre-Installation Because the device must be installed in-line on your network, your Internet connection will be unavailable while you're installing the device. You must have a network switch before you can insert the PacketSmart device into your network. Port A should always connect to the local area network (LAN) (internal side [Internet side]) of your network. A typical example is a switch. Port B should always connect to the wide area network (WAN) (Internet side) of your network. Examples include your Internet Service Provider (ISP) router or firewall. PacketSmart PI-100 Installation Step Task Action 1 Connect Port A. Using an Ethernet cable, connect Port A to the Internet, WAN, or Uplink port on your network switch. If none of these ports exists, plug Port A into any available port on your switch.
2 Connect Port B. Using an Ethernet cable, connect Port B to the Ethernet or LAN port on your Internet Service Provider s cable modem or router. 3 Connect power adapter. Connect the power adapter to the 5VDC power port, and then connect the adapter to an electrical outlet. 4 PacketSmart PI-100 is successfully installed. When the PacketSmart PI-100 device is correctly installed, you'll see the following messages: Install the Expansion Switch Follow the quick start guide installation instructions that came with your switch. Make sure that the switch is installed according to the PacketSmart PI-100 Installation figure above so that all Business Ready-related traffic passes through the switch and the PacketSmart device. Now that you've installed the PacketSmart PI-100 Device and the expansion switch, set up the phones.
Install Polycom SoundPoint IP 335 Phones Polycom SoundPoint IP 335 Installation Step Task Action 1 Connect the handset cord. Plug the handset cord into the handset port, and then plug the other end into the handset. 2 Connect the Ethernet cable. Plug the Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the phone. Plug the other end into your Internet router or an Ethernet connection. Note: To work, the phone must be connected to the Internet. Using the Ethernet cable included in the equipment package, plug it into the computer port on the phone. Plug the other end of this cable into your computer. The Ethernet LAN connection then connects the phone and the computer. 3 Provide power to the Choose one of these options to provide power to the

Now that your phones are set up, you can install an analog telephone adapter. Install the Cisco Analog Telephone Adapter (Optional) An analog telephone adapter (ATA) is an adapter used to connect existing standard (analog) phone lines or a fax machine to your AT&T Business Ready service using your Internet connection. Note: If you don t have standard phones or fax machines, you don t need an ATA.
Step Task Action Analog Telephone Adapter 1 Connect a fax machine or analog phone. To connect a fax machine or analog phone with an RJ-11 phone cable, use the PHONE 1 or PHONE 2 ports. 2 Connect to the Internet. To connect to your LAN switch or router via a network jack near the installation location of the ATA, use the INTERNET (blue) port. To connect using the ETHERNET port, connect one end of an Ethernet network cable to the ETHERNET (Yellow) port of the ATA, and then connect the other end to a device on your network, such as a computer. 3 Connect the power adapter. Connect the power adapter to the power port and connect to an electrical outlet. Your ATA is ready for use. Analog devices such as phones and fax machines are now configured for the Business Ready service.
