3 1 Product Positioning and Features 1 Product Positioning and Features 1.1 Product Positioning Driven by customer demands and to increase the deployment in the small and medium enterprise (SME) market segment, Huawei leveraged its extensive experience in network equipment development to develop the HUAWEI VP9630 Multipoint Control Unit (MCU). The VP9630 is a new generation of cost-effective MCUs with support for dynamic port allocation and full autonegotiation ports. It is the first multimedia switching platform in the industry to support 1080p60 full encoding and decoding. With the rapid development of IP telecommunications technology and bearer network quality, videoconferencing system suppliers are competing to offer high-definition (HD) video and high-fidelity (hi-fi) audio, and the videoconferencing industry is witnessing a significant growth of video communication applications among enterprises. As a core component in the videoconferencing system, the MCU is expected to be easy to use and access and incorporate full autonegotiation ports. With the advancement of codec chipset technologies, a proven video chipset that supports H.264 High Profile (HP) 1080p60 encoding and decoding has emerged. Using such chipset with the H.264 HP technology, the VP9630 delivers an improved videoconferencing experience with lower bandwidth requirements. The VP9630 is 2 U (88.9 mm) tall and 19'' rack mountable. Figure 1-1 shows the VP9630. Figure 1-1 VP9630 1

4 1 Product Positioning and Features 1.2 Product Features High-Performance and Fully-Adaptive The VP9630 supports continuous presence on every port, enabling participants to have different continuous presence views. With the MCU's full autonegotiation ports, standardsbased endpoints of any brand and model can join the same conference, and each participant can have the best possible experience available for their respective endpoint's capability and bandwidth. In this way, the VP9630 brings the endpoint capabilities into full play. The VP9630 supports up to 24 panes of continuous presence on each port. Figure 1-2 shows the continous presence modes. 5 1 Product Positioning and Features Harnessing the power of Huawei's new-generation media processing platform and integrating the H p60 video codec and Video Motion Enhancement (VME) technology, the VP9630 delivers image details to the maximum at up to half the bandwidth of competitive offerings. The VP9630 supports the latest Advanced Audio Coding-Low Delay (AAC-LD) protocol, contributing to CD-quality audio for voice communication. With three-channel audio technology, the VP9630 achieves sound localization. The VP9630 supports presentation adaptation, allowing endpoints with various presentation receiving capabilities to join the same conference and view the conference presentation. Thanks to presentation adaptation, functions of presentation displayed with video, presentation displayed in continuous presence, and dynamic management of presentation bandwidth are available, enabling all participants to view the presentation and helping ensure the optimal conference experience Easy to Deploy and Use The VP9630 supports Internet Protocol (IP) data access with the maximum access bandwidth of 8 Mbit/s. The VP9630-8, a basic version of the VP9630, provides four 1080p60 ports, eight 1080p30 ports, p30 ports, or 32 4CIF ports, as well as eight audio-only ports, with full autonegotiation capability. The VP9630 supports smooth expansion through the purchase of port licenses. After expansion, it provides up to p60 ports, p30 ports, p30 ports, or 96 4CIF ports, as well as 24 audio-only ports, with full autonegotiation capability. The VP9630 incorporates an embedded web server and network gatekeeper (GK). The web server allows users to manage the MCU from the web interface, and the GK enables the MCU to be used independently for small- to medium-scale networks Secure and Reliable with Powerful Network Adaptability By taking advantage of the H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC) and Huawei's unique Super Error Concealment (SEC) 3.0 technologies, the VP9630 can ensure uninterrupted video delivery even if the packet loss rate reaches 20%. With the Intelligent Rate Control (IRC) function, the transmission bandwidth for conference audio and video streams can be adjusted dynamically, ensuring the best audio-visual experience. In addition, the VP9630 has powerful jitter tolerance capability (up to 1000 ms), ensuring the smoothness of a video conference. The VP9630 supports multiple media, signaling, and management encryption protocols, including: H.235 (AES-256) Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) Transport Layer Security (TLS) Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) Secure Shell (SSH) Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) V3 The VP9630 also provides identity authentication and encrypted communication. This helps to prevent account forgery and protect against the interception of conference messages during transmission, ensuring conference information security to the highest level. 3

6 1 Product Positioning and Features High Reliability The VP9630 adopts multi-level backup mechanisms to achieve high reliability and ensure the smoothness of a video conference. Network port backup The VP9630's optical ports SPF0 and GE0, SPF1 and GE1 are mutually redundant. If communication through the working network port is interrupted, the VP9630 automatically switches the communication service to the backup network port in just 3 to 5 seconds. Power supply backup Four power supply modules can be configured on the VP9630 to share the power load. The four power supply modules work in 2+2 backup mode, where two can meet power demands of the VP9630 at full load. Chipset backup The chipsets in the VP9630 can back each other up. When one chipset is faulty, the VP9630 assigns an idle chipset to take over the workload without affecting the audiovisual quality. This ensures consistent video and audio quality for the video conference Perfect Firewall and NAT Traversal Function H.460 The H.460 protocol is the firewall or network address translation (NAT) traversal standard defined by the ITU. The two main components of the standard are H , which implements traversal of H.323 call control signaling, and H , which implements the traversal of media data. The VP9630 supports H /19 clients. When the VP9630 holds a multipoint conference that contains endpoints on the private network, it connects to the traversal server (TS) on the public network to achieve the firewall or NAT traversal of the call control signaling and media data. Video firewall During a traditional video conference, for the purpose of traversal between the public and private networks, a great number of ports need to be enabled on the firewall, which is complicated and may be risky. To avoid this problem, Huawei proposes the MCU with two network ports, where one is used to connect to enterprises' private network and the other to connect to the public network. NAT Static NAT is applicable when all the following conditions are met: Many of the sites participating in a conference are not in the city where the MCU is located. The sites in other cities are on private networks that allow access to outside networks but forbid access from the outside. The MCU cannot be deployed over a public network. The VP9630 supports the NAT traversal between the MCU and endpoints on the private network by enabling static NAT. SNP The Huawei patented Super Network Passport (SNP) facilitates the public/private network traversal without adding new network devices. In conjunction with Huawei's gatekeepers (GK) and video terminals, and in combination with the built-in SNP, the VP9630 facilitates firewall or NAT traversal and service interaction between public and 4

The MCU can be deployed anywhere inside or outside the NAT device, simplifying customers' engineering schemes and enhancing enterprise security Open, Convergent, and Scalable With Huawei's new generation Service Management Center (SMC) 2.0, the VP9630 supports multi-level cascading and multi-channel cascading as well as conference recording. Convenient networking and network expansion facilitates protect customers' investments. The VP9630 is compatible with PSTN, H.320, H.323, SIP, and TelePresence Interoperability Protocol (TIP), allowing various endpoints complying with different protocols to join the same conference, and achieving convergence of the following participants: Huawei telepresence participants HD videoconferencing participants SD videoconferencing participants Mobile participants Audio-only participants In addition, the VP9630 can integrate with Huawei espace, Microsoft Lync/Office Communications Server (OCS), IBM Sametime, and Skype. The VP9630 provides an application programming interface (API) based on the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), making it easy to connect to a third-party system. In addition, the VP9630 supports dynamic port allocation Abundant Services The VP9630 supports abundant services, bringing users the ultimate videoconferencing experience. SiteCall service Huawei is the only vendor in the industry to provide the SiteCall service. With this function, users can define conferences and participants from the video terminal, and initiating a multipoint conference has never been so simple. A user can initiate a multipoint conference using their video terminal's address book without the need for conference predefinition or interference by maintenance personnel. Multiple conference joining modes and conference control functions Huawei proposes an unattended MCU so that all conference operations can be performed from an endpoint. Alternatively, operations can be performed on the MCU or SMC 2.0 web interface, which allows for centralized management of conferences. The VP9630 supports various conference joining modes, including: Ad hoc conference Special service number MCU web interface Service management system (SMC 2.0) user interface Touch panel user interface SiteCall The VP9630 web interface supports hierarchical management of users. The VP9630 supports the following conference control functions: 5

8 Modify the number of ports to be reserved Configure continuous presence Enable or disable voice activation Lock a conference Extend a conference End a conference The VP9630 supports the following site control functions: Add or delete a site Call or disconnect a site Mute or unmute speakers Mute or unmute microphones Adjust the volume View a site Broadcast a site Configure continuous presence Move a site Show or hide video Automatic continuous presence 1 Product Positioning and Features If continuous presence is not configured when a conference is held, the VP9630 automatically sets the video feeds and layout for continuous presence. If a site joins or exits a conference, the MCU automatically adjusts the continuous presence video feeds and changes the layout to maintain the best effect. DTMF conference control on endpoints The VP9630 supports DTMF conference control performed with the number 2, 4, 6, 8 and arrow keys for far end camera control (FECC). From the videoconferencing endpoint, users can press the number 4 key to view the video of the other sites in the conference and press 6 to view the conference presentation. By pressing 2 and 8, users can switch between continuous presence layouts. All the videoconferencing endpoints that have available number keys can perform conference control operations conveniently and flexibly, such as viewing a site. Audio-visual IVR The VP9630 supports interactive voice response (IVR) access numbers. A videoconferencing endpoint can dial the IVR access number or MCU IP address and follow the instructions from the audio-visual IVR of the system to create or join a conference. Calling a site using the Unified Resource Identifier (URI) A videoconferencing endpoint can also dial the H.323 ID, address, or URL address, in addition to the IP address, to create or join a conference Interoperability with Cisco TelePresence Systems With TIP support, the VP9630 can communicate with Cisco's TelePresence endpoints as a multipoint server. Through negotiation using TIP, audio and video stream multiplexing and demultiplexing, audio mixing, and video media switching can be performed between the MCU and Cisco endpoint, achieving interoperability between the two. 6

9 1 Product Positioning and Features When interoperability between Huawei telepresence system and Cisco endpoints is ongoing, both the video and presentation support autonegotiation, and the audio is encoded, decoded, and mixed by the MCU Network Recording Solution The recording server can record conferences so that users can log in to the recording server and access the web page to view an ongoing live conference or a historical conference. Huawei's network recording solution applies to the following scenarios: HD dual stream conferences When browsing dynamic computer screens and viewing HD images are required to help make decisions, for example, courseware used for online teaching, evidence presented to a remote court, X-ray images used for care at a distance, and meteorological pictures used in the weather consultation system. With Huawei's solution, users can view live video and read supporting materials at the same time. Telepresence conferences When tri-screen telepresence sites participate in a conference. With Huawei's solution, the images on the three screens can be incorporated into continuous presence, ensuring the image integrity and solving the problem that only the center screen can be recorded. The recording server administrator can control user access to conference video on the recording server so that a given user can view only specified videos Setting QoS Parameters Different service priorities can be provided based on different QoS levels. Generally, when the network load is heavy, only the communications whose priority is higher than a preset value can be accomplished. Context As network resources are limited, quality requirements are imposed whenever endpoints need to "grab" network resources. For videoconferencing services, ensured transmission bandwidth, reduced delay and packet loss, and jitter must be provided to improve service quality. When a network is overloaded or congestion occurs, IP priority, ToS, and DiffServ can be used to ensure that important services are not delayed or discarded. The QoS tab is displayed, as shown in Figure 1. 7

10 2 Networks and Applications 2 Networks and Applications The VP9630 is a powerful and cost-effective MCU with a medium access capability. It fully meets the networking requirements of SMEs. It can be used independently to set up an HD or SD videoconferencing system within an enterprise. It supports multi-level cascading with which enterprise users or industrial users can set up their videoconferencing systems in phases. 2.1 Independent Networking Figure 2-1 shows a network where the VP9630 is used independently. 11 2 Networks and Applications The VP9630 is networked with Huawei HD video terminals in compliance with H.323 and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), ready to hold HD multipoint conferences. The VP9630 full autonegotiation ports ensure that every participant can have the best possible experience available for their respective video terminal capability and bandwidth. The VP9630 provides strong network adaptability, ensuring video quality across the network and providing an advanced and reliable network. 2.2 Cascaded Network Figure 2-2 shows a cascaded network. Multiple channels are set up between the upper- and lower-level MCUs, and multiple media streams can be transmitted simultaneously. Therefore, the participants can view video from any other site. 2.3 Video Firewall Networking Figure 2-3 shows a video firewall networking diagram. 9

12 2 Networks and Applications Figure 2-3 Video firewall networking diagram Over the network: The VP9630 has two network ports, one connecting to the private network behind a firewall and the other to the public network outside the firewall, to achieve the traversal between the public and private networks. Endpoints on the public and private networks can interact with each other without modifying the H.323 protocol or the original firewall settings (for example, ports that are enabled). 2.4 Cisco TelePresence Networking for Interoperability There are two networking modes that can achieve interoperability between Huawei videoconferencing products and Cisco TelePresence systems: The Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switch (CTMS) is reserved. Cisco TelePresence conferences are initiated from the CTMS, while interoperability conferences are initiated from the SMC 2.0 and held on the MCU. Figure 2-4 shows the networking diagram. The CTMS is removed. All conferences are initiated from the SMC 2.0 and held on the MCU. Figure 2-5 shows the networking diagram. 10

15 2 Networks and Applications Over the network: The GK is deployed in a demilitarized zone (DMZ) of a network's firewall and NAT mapping is configured to the public network. The videoconferencing endpoint is registered with the GK using the GK's private or public IP address. The VP9630 supports H.460 and implements the public/private traversal by coordinating with the H.460 server. The VP9630 is compatible with H.460-compliant devices provided by other vendors. 2.6 Recording Networking Figure 2-7 shows a recording networking diagram. 16 2 Networks and Applications The VP9630 performs video transcoding and transmits audio and video streams to the recording server. The recording server records the MCU media streams. By managing the recording server, the SMC 2.0 facilitates management, distribution, and control of recording resources. Operators can control the recording operations on the user interface of endpoints. Clients can view the live or historical conferences using a browser. 14
