2 SHDSL - CPE
SHDSL CPE s What is? An SHDSL modem combined with a built-in router/bridge No more modular interface slot like in the classic Crocus SHDSL. One box contains it all. Mainly intended for interconnection with SHDSL line cards which you find in DSLAMs or other MSAPs, like the ones from Alcatel, Cisco, Siemens, Nokia and all the other manufacturers. Compare it with an ADSL modem you find at home, but now aimed at the professional market using SHDSL instead of ADSL. Any other use? Sure, but inform yourself before commiting to the customer for instance can be used in a point to point setup as well. 3 Or in combination with the Crocus SHDSL of the CN4 series
SHDSL CPE - What is common? 4 The modem part. 1 pair: providing up to 2,3 Mbps of bandwidth 2 pair: even up to 4,6 Mbps. SHDSL TCPAM16. Also known as G.SHDSL The router part. Runs on TDRE, our router engine featured with a lot of specs like bridging, routing, VLAN support, VPN support, etc.. There is a lot of difference for the rest!! Please check the Quick Reference Guide!!

WAN interchangeable boards 22 Modular STM1 interface. SFP connector 3 basic models: dual fibre MM-SH & SM-MH and single fibre SM-MH E3/T3 ATM encapsulation G804 BNC connectors 6 x E1 ATM IMA RJ Ohm connectors 4 Port 10/100 Base-Tx Four port LAN interface with built-in Ethernet switch. May be used for cascading
Switching methods how to select? 23 Telindus 2400 Series supports different layer 2 and layer 3 switching methods. Important issues for the operator are: Identification of the customer (CPE) No unnecessary traffic over the DSL lines The slides which follow show the different possibilities. NOT ALL ARE AVAILABLE TODAY YET HOWEVER
ATM switching 24 ATM STM1 E3/T3 6E1 Telindus 2400 = ATM switch Classical DSLAM operation ATM PVC Identification via unique PVC + optionally using PPPoA, PPPoE
IP Routing 25 IP Ethernet STM1 E3/T3 6E1 IP routing IP over ATM (AAL5) ATM PVCs over the DSL lines are terminated in the Telindus 2400 PPPoA/PPPoE sessions are terminated on the Telindus 2400 (e.g. using RADIUS server) IP routing including QoS and policy based routing
PPP switching 26 IP Ethernet L2TP tunnel PPP switching PPP over ATM (AAL5) PPPoA/PPPoE sessions over DSL are terminated on ATM level Each PPP session is switched to another interface (typ. uplink) Typically multiple PPP sessions are grouped into one L2TP tunnel on the uplink = L2TP LAC function
Bridging 27 IP Ethernet Ethernet over ATM (AAL5) Bridging Broadcast ATM PVCs over the DSL lines are terminated in the Telindus 2400 Bridging between all interfaces physical interfaces logical interfaces: e.g. ATM PVC, F.R. DLCI, L2TP tunnel, VLAN PPPoE sessions continue over the uplink Broadcast and Multicast traffic from one DSL line is distributed to other DSL lines.
Bridging with separated neighbours 28 IP Broadcast Ethernet Idem as Bridging except: Ethernet over ATM (AAL5) B ridging Broadcast Broadcast and Multicast traffic from the DSL lines is sent only to uplink Broadcast and Multicast traffic from uplink is distributed over all DSL lines
Multiple bridge groups 29 IP Ethernet Bridge group 1 Bridge group 2 Ethernet over ATM (AAL5) Bridging here occurs between the interfaces defined in the same bridge group No traffic between the interfaces of different bridge groups Interface can also be virtual (logical), like a VLAN or a VC for instance.
Multiple bridge groups (2) 30 IP Ethernet Ethernet over ATM (AAL5) Different VLANs defined on the Ethernet interface; each VLAN = virtual interface Case 1: Std Ethernet frames over ATM on DSL lines 1 ATM PVC per DSL line (= virtual interface) 1 Bridge group = 1 DSL ATM PVC + 1 Eth VLAN All traffic of 1 DSL line is sent over 1 Eth VLAN Case 2: VLAN frames over ATM on DSL lines 1 ATM PVC per VLAN over DSL line (possibly several VLANs per DSL) 1 Bridge group = all interfaces with same VLAN ID
VLAN switching 31 IP Ethernet All traffic is VLAN traffic Ethernet over ATM (AAL5) VLAN switch Traffic is switched between interfaces with optionally change in VLAN ID + priority P bits; optionally tagging/untagging No frame duplication over different interfaces possible in this mode
How to select final 32 Several layer 2 & 3 options available regarding switching Choice based on: ATM or IP core infrastructure ( uplink ) Scalability (# VLAN in 1 network are limited) Where is the user identification and authentication Configuration effort
