5 Security and Surveillance Security Monitoring for Military Sites Project Intro Military installations around the world use different surveillance devices to enhance security, which is of the utmost importance for the military operation. The application presented here involves protecting a permanent military base in the Southeast Asia. A major part of the security system involves the installation of several PTZ cameras around the perimeter of the base. All these cameras are connected directly to the base s video surveillance network system. System Requirements Dual-device redundant Gigabit backbone to provide an extra-reliable video surveillance system that never goes offline. Layer 3 switching function to help organize LAN segment demands for future expansion to other military bases. Moxa Solution Moxa s industrial Layer 2 and Layer 3 Gigabit managed Ethernet switches, the EDS-518A and EDS-828, were chosen for the network s Gigabit backbone. The Gigabit transmission speed allows both data and video images to be transmitted in real time, which greatly enhance the ability of the base s security personnel to respond immediately when an intrusion or emergency occurs. Location: Southeast Asia The base s video surveillance network must be extra-reliable and it doesn t accept failures unexpectedly, even when subjected to extreme stress. This is achieved with fault tolerant technology that uses a dual-device redundant system design. For extra reliability, PTZ cameras are installed in pairs at strategic points along the perimeter of the base. The cameras connect to Moxa s EDS-518A Layer 2 Gigabit managed Ethernet switches, which are also installed in pairs to form two independent Gigabit backbone networks, each of which uses Moxa s Turbo Ring technology for double redundancy. Ring coupling is used to connect the two rings to each other, and in this way creates a redundant backbone for transmitting both data and video images. With the EDS-518A s Gigabit fiber optic links, the Turbo Rings can be easily extended over long distances, such as along the perimeter of the base, while at the same time supporting faster transmission of information and video. In addition, the dual Ethernet rings link to Moxa s EDS-828 Layer 3 Gigabit modular managed Ethernet switches in the control room. The EDS-828 Ethernet switches deliver the full-wired speed of Layer 3 switching, and help IT engineers organize LAN segments for future expansion and to connect with subnets at other military bases. 41

7 Security and Surveillance One Network PoE Solution for Security Monitoring of Nutrition and Pharmaceutical Premises Project Intro A European based company that develops, produces, and sells functional and nutritional ingredients for the food, nutrition and pharmaceuticals industry, is well-known for delivering quality and innovative products and service to its users worldwide. A focus on continuous process improvement leads the company to phase in new technologies to help accelerate manufacturing and quality control. Recently, they adopted Moxa s one network solution to facilitate the construction of a security monitoring system at its headquarters in Europe. Using Moxa s advanced networking solutions greatly helped to solve the problems of limited power source for required devices and bandwidth for transmitting data, video and voice over Ethernet network when building up the system. Location: Europe System Requirements An efficient and reliable security monitoring system that integrates data, video, and voice over one network for centralized monitoring management. Ethernet network with high-bandwidth and long-haul transmission capability for video streaming over office buildings. Moxa Solution The security monitoring system was built up for monitoring of the key manufacturing processes, protection of the company s intellectual property, and setting up a fast-response internal communication network between offices. In order to achieve these goals, a high-bandwidth Gigabit fiber redundant network backbone formed by 30 pieces of Moxa s EDS-510A-1GT2SFP Ethernet switches was constructed to integrate data, video, and voice into one network, two of which are located in the control room and the remainder are distributed over other offices and manufacturing sites. The EDS-P308 power-over-ethernet switches and remote I/O modules link end security and monitoring devices to the backbone. The security monitoring system was required to integrate video cameras, intercoms, card readers, and a number of intrusion sensors all over the offices at company headquarters. For offices where it proved difficult to connect these end devices to a power source, EDS-P308 powerover-ethernet switches provided the best solution to overcome the power supply problem with its four built in PoE ports, and at the same time substantially saving on the wiring costs for the entire system. Ultimately, all the required information for security monitoring can be collected for centralized monitoring using Moxa s Gigabit one network and Power-over-Ethernet solutions. 43

9 Security and Surveillance Fire Alarm System Using Peer-to-Peer I/O Project Intro A new residential community was developed in Taipei, Taiwan by a wellknown construction company. In this community, intelligent buildings were connected with fiber Ethernet. Residents would have access to high-tech services, such as highspeed Internet connections, advanced security systems, intelligent elevator control, and on-demand TV. In addition, each building would be monitored in real-time from a central control room, and individual fire alarms could be triggered as needed. System Requirements Every fire alarm needed to be connected to the control room staffed by security guards. However, there was insufficient space in the existing pipes to install I/O wiring from the alarms to the control room. Another solution was required to transmit the I/O signals. Since fiber Ethernet was already installed, the client wanted a solution that satisfied the following requirements: Transmits I/O signals over Ethernet, from each building to the control room No extra controller needed Minimal training and wiring effort Moxa Solution Moxa offers a variety of I/O solutions for most industrial requirements. The EDS-405A switch was used for the network infrastructure, and the iomirror E3210 peer-to-peer Ethernet I/O servers were used to transmit I/O signals. Fire alarm sensors were connected to one iomirror unit, which exchanged signals over Ethernet with another iomirror unit that was connected to the control center. By utilizing the existing fiber network, I/O signals could be transferred without additional wiring effort. 11 Security and Surveillance Intrusion Detection with SNMP and IP Video in Factory Project Intro Wars and oils are the hottest issues in the Middle East. And the oil storage tanks are usually the target of attack during wartime. Typically, oil storage tanks and refining equipment are the most important parts of the oil refinery industry. To protect those facilities from being damaged is a top priority of those oil vendors. One of our customers in Europe planned to combine video and alarm signals in one fiber network. In addition to video surveillance, digital I/O devices in the field were used for remote monitoring and alarm. However, the IP surveillance system is a bandwidth killer. To assure those alarm messages can be delivered with precise time stamps is the key. The client used SNMP to monitor their network devices and wanted to integrate this new intrusion detection system with their remote monitoring system. SNMP, Fiber network and low bandwidth consumption are the prerequisites for the new system. System Requirements The customer needed to implement an IP video surveillance system at a factory, with certain areas requiring around the clock monitoring. In addition to video surveillance, digital I/O devices in the field would be used for remote monitoring and control. The client wished to manage all devices in the factory using a single platform, including all I/O signals. SNMP was the chosen platform, and the complete system needed to provide the following: SNMP support for each device I/O device/status controlled by SNMP Device status reporting by SNMP traps Large bandwidth using fiber ring architecture Industrial-grade video surveillance to withstand bad weather conditions Moxa Solution To implement a reliable network backbone that can support 200 IP video feeds, the customer used the EDS-510A managed Ethernet switch to build a redundant Gigabit Ethernet network. Although the EDS-510A s two digital input channels are insufficient for extra monitoring devices, the iologik E2210 Active Ethernet I/O server was able to provide the necessary digital I/O channels. The built-in SNMP support and multiple I/O channels of iologik E2210 are available for control and monitoring by SNMP, no additional management software is required.
