2 Wake-up Call off-loading for Mitel 3300 Advantages to wake-up call off-loading The Mitel 3300 PBX has more resources to issue multiple wake-up calls for the same time. The Mitel 3300 PBX issued wake-up call does not follow a stations call forwarding or call rerouting to voic on a busy or no answer. Requirements Directing the Hotel Motel Logs Port and Hotel Motel Report Port output (using a Precidia ipocket2323 or Perle IOLAN DS1) to a COM port on the InnLine voic (needed for verification of wake-up off-loading from InnLine to the 3300) Program access codes for feature names Hotel/Motel Room Remote Wakeup Call Set and Hotel/Motel Room remote Wakeup Call Cancel Announcement device for playing wake-up messages (delivered by PBX) How Wake-up Call off-loading for the Mitel 3300 works The time is presently 8:00pm. A guest sets a wake-up call for 6:00am the next morning, using the voic system s automated guest services feature. The voic s outdial port goes off-hook and dials the access code assigned to the feature name Hotel/Motel Room Remote Wakeup Call Set + the wakeup time and station number. The voic application confirms that the wakeup call was successfully registered in the Mitel PBX, since it monitors the wakeup status messages produced by the Mitel 3300 with its Mitel Hotel/Motel Wakeup Port (MITWAK) device interface. This is accomplished by connecting the COM port of the voic running this interface directly to the Mitel 3300 s printer port on the front of the controller. Another connection option is to use a Presidia ipocket232 or a Perle IOLAN device 1 to send these messages to the voic application. If the wake up call cannot be off- loaded to the PBX, the voic will take responsibility for issuing the wake up call. If a second wakeup call is requested (and will be at a later time than the first already off-loaded), the voic will wait until the first wakeup call is completed by the PBX before off-loading the event. The same logic holds true for any number of multiple wakeup requests scheduled for the room. If the second requested wakeup call is earlier than the first that was just off-loaded, the voic application will off-load it, which will change the wake-up time in the PBX. The wakeup request that was changed will then be off-loaded when the first event is completed. 1 Port 1753 is for Hotel/Motel logs in the Mitel 3300 PBX 1

3 PBX PROGRAMMING FOR WAKE-UP REPORTING Feature Access Code Assignment Assign feature access codes for the following feature names: Hotel/Motel Room Remote Wakeup Call Set Hotel/Motel Room Remote Wakeup Call Cancel Class of Service Options Assignment Enable the following Class of Service Option for the voic stations: Hotel/Motel Room Remote Wakeup Call Allowed Yes Application Logical Port Assignment Direct the following Port Logical Names to the Port Physical Name as shown below (this example shows these reports being output to the DB-9 printer port on the front of the 3300 controller): 2

4 System Port Assignment Check this form to ensure that LPR1 is assigned to the Maint. port: VOIC PROGRAMMING Wake-up Call Settings Go to System >Tenants >Tenant1 Double-click Wake-up Calls icon Click the Off-loading tab and ensure that the External Device field is set to Mitel 3300 In the Set Wake-up Code Prefix field, enter the feature access code that is assigned to Hotel/Motel Room Remote Wakeup Call Set. The above screen shot is using ##93 as an example. In the Clear Wake-up Code Prefix field, enter the feature access code that is assigned to Hotel/Motel Room Remote Wakeup Call Cancel. The above screen shot is using ##94 as an example. 3

5 Device Interfaces Check by clicking the Do button if the following serial device interface is loaded on the voic server: If it is not present, activate it by going to System > Device Interfaces. Check the communication parameter settings of both interfaces and make sure that the baud rate, stop bits, etc. match the settings of the devices they are connecting to. Mitel Hotel/Motel Wakeup Port (MITWAK) Recommended setting for this driver is 9600 N81 4

6 Ensure that the statement: newlog=on is in the Parameters field. Connecting the voic system to the Mitel port configured for wake-up reporting (output of Hotel/Motel wakeup messages) The serial port assigned to the MITWAK interface may be connected to the following: Serial port on the Mitel 3300 (printer port LPR1 on the front of the Mitel 3300 controller) Precidia ipocket232 device Perle IOLAN DS1 (if using multiple Mitel 3300 controllers in a cluster) 5

10 InnLine IP serial port pin configuration The following table shows the standard RS-232C serial interface port signals and connector pin-outs for the InnLine IP system. 11 TESTING Before testing, it s important that both clocks (Mitel 3300 PBX and the InnLine IP voic ) are synchronized. Access voic and go to automated guest services. Set a wake-up call for a guest for at least 10 minutes in the future. In our test example below, we will set a wake-up call for 9:30am from guest mailbox After setting the wakeup call, the voic will dial the appropriate feature access code plus the time and station number as shown below: *8# (If the wakeup was set to reoccur daily, the dial string would appear as *8#1* ) Next, the Mitel Hotel/Motel Wakeup Port interface will receive the following message: This message is the voic s indication that the codes it dialed were received and understood by the Mitel 3300 PBX. The voic then displays the following message: After the above three items take place, the Mitel 3300 PBX will deliver the wake-up call at the prescribed time. The voic application keeps track of the how many attempts are made to the room, since that information is delivered to the Mitel Hotel/Motel Wakeup Port interface. If the call goes unanswered by the guest, the voic can notify a station (usually one at the front desk) that the wake-up call wasn t answered. To configure an extension to receive these wake-up failure notifications, click the Do button and choose Configure System. Under the Tenant, go to the wake-up calls icon, and select the Failure Notification tab. By default, extension 0 will receive these notifications. Select the field and change its value (to any valid PBX extension) if a different notification point is desired. 10

14 OTHER INFORMATON There is a software deficiency on the Mitel 3300 with regards to re-occurring wake-up calls. Upon answering a reoccurring wake-up call, the Mitel will output Acknowledged By Extension, followed by a Set By Extension messages, which are normal. Once the user hangs up, the Mitel transmits a second set of Acknowledged and Set messages. This second set of messages from the PBX results in: 1. InnLine shows two ANSWERED (from the first attempt) entries in the wake-up report. 2. InnLine shows under Pending Wake-up Calls that this reoccurring event will happen in two days. 3. InnLine will speak this pending wake-up call to the user as reflected in the report. 4. If this type of wake-up event is canceled from InnLine, it is NOT canceled in the PBX (due to the incorrect pending date. It only causes the wake-up report generated by InnLine and the spoken event to be inaccurate. Also, if the Mitel 3300 software release is older than those mentioned above, it s possible that this software deficiency is not present. END OF DOCUMENT 14
