1 Wi-Fi Array PoE Outdoor Enclosure XE-4000-POE Installation Guide The Wi-Fi Array Poer over Ethernet Outdoor Enclosure is intended for all outdoor applications here securing any Wi-Fi Array from harsh environments is required. The Outdoor Enclosure (referred to as the enclosure in this guide) protects against rain, heat, cold, direct sun, and ind hile providing an additional layer of physical security. The key features of the enclosure include: Revision B Weatherproofing and lightning protection. Heater for cold eather locations (runs only as needed). Fan cooling ith filters (runs only as needed). Flexible mounting options for pole, all, and ceiling mount capabilities. Uses poer supplied by Xirrus Poer over Gigabit Ethernet (PoGE) module(s). General Considerations General and Environmental Product Specifications Poer Input: Uses Xirrus Poer over Gigabit Ethernet (PoGE) injectors. One PoGE injector port poers the enclosure s fans and heater (72W minimum required), and may supply data to an Array data port if desired. A second injector port supplies poer and data to all Array models. For the XN12/ XN16, if you ish to supply a redundant poer source or use a loer-poered injector, then you ill need to provide a third PoGE port. ODE Poer Consumption: 10W typical, 70W maximum (ithout Wi-Fi Array). Dimensions: 14 inches tall x 24 inches diameter (ithout accessories). Weight: 47 lbs (21.3 Kg) ithout Wi-Fi Array; 56 lbs (25.4 Kg) ith Array. Operating Conditions: Temperature: -40 C to +55 C ith internal heater option, or 0 C to +55 C ithout heater. Humidity: 10% to 90% non-condensing. Wind Survivability: >165 mph. Junction Box: (optional) installed ithin 10 feet of the unit. Installer Note: Total Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable length from the enclosure to the Ethernet sitch providing your Internet connection must be no more than 100 m, including all cable segments regardless of injector location. The injector is not a repeater or a hub, so its position ith respect to cabling and Array ill not extend the 100 m limit.

2 Choose Your Preferred Mounting Option The enclosure can be mounted to a vertical structure or mounted on a pole (if no suitable vertical structure is available at the location). Mounting the enclosure to an existing vertical structure ith a flat surface (for example, a all), the enclosure s mounting arm can be attached directly to the structure ith four mounting scres. Installer Note: Ensure that the mounting scres used can support a vertical load of at least 100 lbs (alloing for the outdoor enclosure, Wi-Fi Array and sno load). If the enclosure is to be mounted on a pole, the pole mounting kit is required. This kit is included ith the enclosure, as shipped. After the installation mounting method has been determined, follo the instructions in Install PoGE Injectors and Run Cables on page 4 and then either XE-4000 Pole Mounting Instructions on page 13 or XE-4000 Wall Mounting Instructions on page 18, depending on the mounting method chosen. WARNING: The enclosure must remain hite! Do not paint it any other color as that may cause the Array to overheat beyond the operating temperature range. Basic Installation Tools Required To properly and safely install the enclosure, at least to people are required. Additionally, the folloing tools may be required for a pole mount, depending on your particular installation site and the current configuration of the surface on hich the enclosure is to be mounted (for example, the pole may already have an access opening for data and poer). 4 Install PoGE Injectors and Run Cables Cable Usage The XE-4000-POE must be used only ith Xirrus Poer over Gigabit Ethernet (PoGE) injectors. The enclosure requires connections to to PoGE ports, one to poer the enclosure and one to poer the Array. See the Installation Wiring Diagrams in the Appendix on page 30. Also, see the PoGE Installation Guide ( ) for more details, such as hich Arrays and PoGE injectors are compatible. You must supply cable runs to connect to the folloing cables hich exit the XE-4000 POE: BLUE Cat5e cable carries poer to the enclosure fans and heater. At the same time, it may also carry data to feed the Gigabit2 port (for XN8/XS8/XS16) or the Ethernet0 port. RED Cat5e cable carries poer and data from a PoGE port to the Array Data and Poer IN1 port for Gigabit1 (also called Gigabit POE on 4-radio Arrays). GREEN Serial cable an RS-232 connection to the Array s Console port. In order for ODE temperature/humidity status to be fed to the Array, the green Console cable must be connected beteen the Array Console port and the serial output of the enclosure. See page 6 for more information on using this cable. User-supplied Cat5e cable This is used ith the XN12/XN16 if you ish to supply a redundant poer connection to the Array, or if you are using injectors ith less than 95W of poer to drive the Array. In these cases, you must supply your on cable to feed into the enclosure and carry poer and data from a third PoGE injector port to the Array Data and Poer IN2 port for Gigabit2. Run Cables Run cables from PoGE ports in your Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF your data closet) to your junction box to connect to the cables listed above. Poer is supplied via the Ethernet cables; do not run additional poer lines. Xirrus PoGE injectors are intended for indoor use. We recommend that you locate them in your data closet. Note that the total length of all segments of cable runs from your Ethernet sitch to the enclosure must not exceed 100m. 1. Externally, the BLUE cable must be fed by a PoGE port providing at least 72W of poer for the enclosure. This cable ill not poer the Array, but it may carry data for the Gigabit2 port on an XN8/XS8/XS16 or data for the Ethernet0 port on any Array except an XS4/XN4. 2. The enclosure s RED cable must be fed by a PoGE port supplying the proper poer for the Array model being installed. This PoGE port must also supply Gigabit data to an Array Data and Poer IN port. 4

5 3. The GREEN cable provides RS-232 or RS-422 access to the Array Console port. 4. The user-supplied cable is used only on XN12/XN16 model Arrays. It must be fed by a PoGE port supplying the proper poer for the Array model. This PoGE port may also supply Gigabit data to the Array s second Data and Poer IN port. 30 Appendix Fastening the Flexible Stainless Steel (BAND-IT) Straps on page 31 Wiring Diagram 1: XS4/XN4 Installation (95W Injector) on page 32 Wiring Diagram 2: XS4/XN4 (75W Injectors) on page 33 Wiring Diagram 3: XN8/XS8/XS16 Installation (95W Injector) on page 34 Wiring Diagram 4: XN8/XS8/XS16 (75W Injectors) on page 35 Wiring Diagram 5: XN12/XN16 Installation (95W Injector) on page 36 Wiring Diagram 6: XN12/XN16 (75W Injectors, No Redundant Poer) on page 37 Wiring Diagram 7: XN12/XN16 (Redundant Poer to Array) on page 38 30

31 Fastening the Flexible Stainless Steel (BAND-IT) Straps The folloing instructions detail ho to install and fasten the provided straps, using the BAND-IT tensioning tool (not included). For more information, see the eb site:.band-it-idex.com. 1. Pull appropriate length of band from BAND-IT Tote (approx. 3 1/2 times the diameter of the pole or mast arm for a single-rapped clamp and double-rapped clamp. Add 6 8 inches for both singlerapped and double-rapped clamps to accommodate the tail and bracket design.) Cut the band using one of the BAND-IT tools ith built-in cutter. One end of the band ill be very flat and the opposite end ill be slightly bent from the cut-off. 2. Holding the buckle in one hand, ith ears pointing upard and to the right as shon, insert the bent or tisted end of the band through the buckle bridge, past the ears and bend so that at least 2 inches are underneath the buckle. 3. Squeeze the lip rap to flatten the bend preventing pull-out during tensioning. 6. Place band in open slot of tool nose and gripper block. Move into slot as far as possible to prevent buckle from sliding into tool nose. With thumb on band gripper lever, apply tension by turning handle of tool. After tension is created, it is no longer necessary to hold the band gripper lever as it locks itself under tension. When band stops moving through buckle, maximum tension has been applied. Stop turning handle. 7. To set the lock and cut off band, roll tool nose over buckle, relieving a slight amount of tension by backing off tension handle during this fold over operation. Failure to back off tension handle throughout the entire course of roll over may result in breaking band. On the other hand, releasing too much tension may result in a loose clamp. 8. Pull cutting handle to cut the band. 9. Remove tool, holding stub of band don ith thumb. 4. Wrap band through sign bracket and around the pole or mast arm and thread through bridge as shon. 10. Hold clamp tail don beteen ears hile hammering the buckle ears don to hold band stub in place. This completes the secure BAND-IT clamp. 5. Repeat a second rap of band through the bracket and buckle for a continuous double-rap application. Doublerapping develops greater radial compression than singlerapped clamps and more than doubles the holding strength for heavy objects and high ind loads.
