2 CIB 3097 ESD Suppression Kit When installed in a voice terminal s ZH802A or ZH802B module that is experiencing Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) effects, the D ESD Suppression Kit alleviates associated symptoms. NOTE: ESD Suppression Kits should be installed in both the module and its voice terminal. If a voice terminal has an ESD Suppression Kit installed an AT&T logo is on the lower left corner of the membrane switch assembly. If there is no logo, obtain and install a D ESD Suppression Kit. The Kit contains the following components: Two plastic rails Membrane switch assembly Installing the Kit BEFORE YOU START You will need the following items to install the kit properly: Screwdriver Ground strap (wrist band type) REPLACING THE PLASTIC RAILS AND MEMBRANE SWITCH ASSEMBLY WARNING: Before installing this kit, make sure that you are properly grounded. Use a ground strap (wrist band type is recommended) to ensure proper grounding Unplug the modular cord(s) from the bottom of the voice terminal and move it to an area where you will have ample working space. Then, unplug the handset cord from the voice terminal. Turn the voice terminal upside down and remove the desk stand. Press down on the adapter plate s locking tab (Figure 4) and slide the plate off the bottom of the voice terminal. Remove the end cap on the right side of the voice terminal by grasping the underside of the end cap and prying it away from the housing (Figure 1). iss 1, cib3097-1

If the rails are metal or silver painted plastic (the front and back of the rails are not the same color), discard them. Otherwise, set them aside. Remove the cable cover plate (Figure 4) next to the OTHER jack on the bottom of the voice terminal. Disconnect the ribbon cable from the voice terminal. Turn the voice terminal right side up and lift the module upwards to detach it from the voice terminal. Locate the two locking tabs in the slots on the left side of the module (Figure 2). Using a screwdriver, press the locking tabs inward and remove the membrane switch assembly housing from the lower housing. iss 1, cib3097-2

Locate the two connectors (next to each other) on the printed wiring (PW) board. Remove the cables from the connectors. Remove the protective paper liner from the back of the membrane switch assembly provided in this kit. Carefully align the LED holes on the membrane switch assembly with LEDs on the membrane switch assembly housing (Figure 3). Press firmly against the entire surface of the membrane switch assembly. iss 1, cib3097-3

Use the following instructions, if necessary: Locate the leftmost connector on the PW board and insert the shorter of the two cables into it making sure that the silver bands are facing upwards. Locate the rightmost connector on the PW board and insert the longer of the two cables into it making sure that the silver bands are-facing downwards. 13 Thread the ribbon cable through the opening in the bottom of the lower housing (Figure 3). Insert the membrane switch assembly housing into the lower housing making sure that the two locking tabs are properly seated. iss 1, cib3097-4

6 Align the mounting tabs on the left side of the module (Figure 2) with the slots on the right side of the voice terminal and press the module into place. Slide the upper and lower plastic rails onto the module and voice terminal. Replace the end cap. Plug the module s ribbon cable into the connector on the bottom of the voice terminal and replace the cable cover plate (Figure 4). Place the voice terminal upside down. Position the plate on the voice terminal so that the plate s mounting slots fit just below the mounting tabs on the voice terminal (Figure 4). Replace the desk stand on the bottom of the adapter plate. Replace all modular cords (previously removed) on the bottom of the voice terminal. iss 1, cib3097-5

7 21 Replace the handset cord in its modular jack on the bottom of the voice terminal. 22 Turn the voice terminal right side up and place the handset in the cradle. Testing the Voice Terminal Use the test/program (T/P) switch on the left side of the voice terminal to test the lights and ringer. Slide the T/P switch away from you to the T position. (The red and green lights on the voice terminal and module flash and the set rings.) Use the volume control switch on the left side of the voice terminal to test the volume of the alerting rings and speaker. Lift the handset and slide the switch away from you and then toward you. (As the volume control switch moves the volume of the speaker changes.) Return the T/P switch to the center position and slide the volume control switch away from you to the HI position. Press each feature button (Figure 1). (As each button is pressed the button feedback tone (click) comes from the speaker.) iss 1, cib3097-6
