4 1. Introduction FERMIO-EM is a Single Board Computer with a size of a credit card and it is based on Intel QuarkTM processor. Intel QuarkTM processors are dedicated to devices which main goals are low power consumption and small size. FERMIO-EM power consumption is only.5w. Intel QuarkTM processors family is designed for development of innovative solutions, computing markets, Internet of Things and Wearables. Intel provides a guaranty of 7 to 10 years Quark TM processors production, which is a strong advantage in industry. Intel QuarkTM processor with perfectly developed surroundings, builds a device which can be used in many industry sectors. This device with suitable cover and power supply can be itself a final product. Despite its small size, FERMIO-EM has a lot of communication ports and up to 8GB storage memory - or possibility to expand by Micro SD card. FERMIO-EM provides full BOM (Bill of Materials) control, very useful for device certification. 4/3

6 .. Processor The heart of the module is Intel's Quark TM SoC X1000 processor. It is recommended for industrial equipment, IoT and wearables. The distinguishing features are low power consumtion, industrial temperature range, ECC, secure data and operations, long-term support. The processor remains compatible with previous 3-bit Intel's software and architecture. The processor has many embedded interfaces including PCI Express, USB.0, 10/100 Ethernet, SD/SDIO/eMMC card interfaces, SPI, UART, and GPIO ports. A detailed description is contained in "Intel QuarkTM SoC X1000 Datasheet"..3. Memory The module FERMIO-EM has DDR3-800 memory organized in architecture with two 56Mx8 chips including ECC support for industrial module versions..4. Storage Memory The module has two alternatives for use of storage memory, depending on the product version: emmc memory (,4 or 8G) or micro SD card slot, both connected directly to the processor's interface..5. Power The module can be powered by V DC source. Average power consumption is only.5w TPD. Additional power reduction can be achieved by usage of the advanced processor functions: ACPI 3.0 specification, C0, C1, and C processor power states, S0, S3, and S4/S5 system power states..6. Clock FERMIO-EM uses single clock source - 5MHz crystal, connected to Quark's TM clock generator. Clocking for LAN switch is derived from RMII clock, from Quark TM MAC0/MAC1. Independent clocking for Bluetooth Low Energy is provided - 6 MHz and 3.768kHz. 6/3

7 .7. Reset and Power Button FERMIO-EM supports embedded microcontroller (PIC 16Fxxxx from Microchip Technology ), separately from Quark'sTM processor. Communication between QuarkTM and PIC microcontroller is implemented by using IC bus. PIC microcontroller is provided with standard FW, which supports: Watchdog timer, disabled on power-up, can be configured to reset QuarkTM (S0). Power-up timer, disabled on power-up, can be configured to power-up QuarkTM when QuarkTM is on power-down state (S5). Wake-up timer, disabled on power-up, can be configured to wake-up QuarkTM when QuarkTM is in sleep state (S3). Main power applied : power-up QuarkTM, all timers disabled. Each time PIC microcontroller can be configured to count time from to 510 minutes ( minutes resolution). It is programmed to use dedicated test pads during production cycle. Other functions that can be implemented to use PIC (examples): control of battery charger, monitoring of external sensors, advanced counters/timers. A special PIC FW can be ordered from 3City Electronics Sp. z o.o. Quark'sTM reset signal is only available on PIC microcontroller and can be used to trigger reset when watchdog timer is configured and triggered. "Power-button" signal is routed to PIC microcontroller and J11 connector and can be controlled from those two sources. When power is provided to FERMIO-EM - QuarkTM is powered-up by PIC microcontroller. A BOM-option of FERMIO-EM can be ordered with PIC microcontroller or without. When without - a "power-button" signal pulled-down to is added. 7/3

8 .8. Security Features Intel QuarkTM processor used in FERMIO-EM, has implemented features On - die Boot ROM providing Hardware Root of Trust (RoT) for firmware authentication. The main benefit is the mechanisms used to verify the authenticity and integrity of the software runing on the platform, before that software is being loaded. More information about this features is availaible in document "Intel QuarkTM SoC X1000 Secure Boot Programmer's Reference Manual (PRM)". 11 3.1. Connectors J1 and J4 Connectors J1, J4 (Header, -Pin, Raster.54mm) are an optional extension used to power the system by Power over Ethernet. If you wish to use them, please contact the manufacturer. Pin description is given in Table 1. 12 3.3. Connector J3 Connector J3 is USB.0 port (microusb connector TYPE B). It is a single device port that supports highspeed (480 Mbps) and full-speed (1 Mbps) operation. In the case of need to use the power through the connector, please contact the manufacturer. 13 3.5. Connector J11 Connector J11 (Header, 5-Pin, Raster.54mm) is a main power connector. The module can be powered form source V DC max. Power Button starts module and is multifunctional. 14 3.7. Connector J_RTC Connector J_RTC (Header, 3-Pin, Raster.54mm) is a RTC power connector. The RTC power domain can be powered from 3V battery by pins BATTERY and. Extends board connectivity by most popular serial buses available on QuarkTM: USB, SPI1, IC, UART0 and two General Purposes Input/Output pins for user applications. Connector J_PEX1 Connector J_PEX1 (MM60-5B1-E1-R650 from JAE Electronics) provides multiple connections and buses: PCI Express 1, USB.0, Wires to diagnostics LEDs for wireless network (i.e., Wi-Fi) status, SIM card for GSM and WCDMA applications, 1.5 V and 3.3 V power. 18 3.11. Connector J_OLED Connector J_OLED (ZIF, 4-Pin, Raster 0.5mm) is a OLED display connector. Pinout is compatible with the display Visionox M0059 (18x64px 1.54"). 19 3.1. BT LE Interface FERMIO-EM has Bluetooth Low Energy ML LAPIS Semiconductor chip built in. Processor communicates with the slave chip via SPI interface (BACI Mode). Antenna is integrated in FERMIO-EM and is compatible with.4ghz band radio communication. Integrated RF block in computer is compatible with Bluetooth SIG Core Spec v4.0. External memory EEPROM 4LC18 is connected to Bluetooth chip which communicates via IC interface. Bluetooth parameters configuration can be written in to external memory. Hardware SPI0 interface and three GPIO pin to drive BACI packet are used for communication. Tabel 13 shows GPIO connections with drive pin ML7105 chip to transmit and receive BACI packet. 20 4. BIOS QuarkTM processor supports booting from LSPI Flash containing "BIOS" and small Linux Image with limited functionality. "BIOS" is based on customised EDK-II firmware available from Intel for Quark TM processor. 22 6. Product variants The FERMIO-EM is available in three basic variants differing model of Quark TM processor, RAM and Storage memory and presence of BTLE module. On special order other configuration of Quark TM processor's and RAM memory are availaible. Please contact the manufacturer. Below Table 15shows three basic variants.
