4 Preparation Tips before You Start Make sure to use stable power supply. Please use in a clean & dry environment. Please keep the environment well ventilated. When the duplicator operates, it is normal for the machine to heat up. Please do not move the duplicator during operation to ensure better operation. Please do not remove HDDs during operation to avoid damage. Please use power supply of its original manufacturer to ensure working safety. Static electricity may cause duplication error. Please pay attention to the duplicator environment and operators equipment. It is recommended to purchase static electricity elimination equipment to avoid static electricity shock when in high static electricity environment. Notice Symbols Special items, procedures, or notes should be noticed by users before operation. Note: Note Refers to related operations on the duplicator, special details, tips to know, suggestions or more effective operation. (There are four copy modes for selection at function 6.1) To compare data bit for bit between source and target HDDs. It makes copy first and then compare target HDD with source HDD to ensure data correctness. 4.1 Quick Erase To erase HDD s index table only. 4.2 Full Erase To erase whole HDD. 4.3 DoD Erase To erase HDDs three times complying with USA Department of Defense (DoD) standard. 4.4 DoD EraseComp To erase HDDs three times complying with USA Department of Defense (DoD) standard and bit by bit to check if data is completely erased. 4.5 Secure Erase The international authorized high standard Secure Erase function. 5.1 Show Disk Info. Shows HDD s basic information such as HDD model name and capacity Update BIOS To update the system firmware via a USB 5.2 pen drive or a HDD. Update Create Update HDD System To format the HDD with a 2GB FAT partition in order to quickly save firmware in the HDD. 5.3 System Info. Show information of the duplicator system, including controller model number and software version. 7

8 6. Setup 6.1 Copy Area Setup copy mode. System and Files Set to copy source HDD's data only. ALL Partitions Set to copy source HDD's all partitions. Whole HDD Set to copy the whole source HDD. Percentage (%) Set up percentage range of HDD for copy. 6.2 Skip Error Set to skip error of source HDD while Copy / Compare / Erase. 6.3 Language Select preferred language. 6.4 Advanced Setup Unknown Format Erase Master Erase Pattern 8 Copy Unknown Copy unknown format area. Skip Unknown Skip to copy unknown area. Disable Disable erase source HDD. Enable Enable erase source HDD. ONE Byte A random character to be written into every byte. 9 Function Introduction 1. Copy It copies data from source HDD to target HDD. You can set following settings before copy. (You can check more detail in 6. Setup.) I. Set Copy Area of Source HDD 6.1 Copy Area II. Set Copy Unknown Format Area Unknown Format Start to copy Step 1: Prepare Source & Targets Prepare a source HDD and target HDDs. (It s strongly recommended the source and target are the same capacity.) Caution Various adapters are required to copy device with different interfaces, e.g. IDE, esata, msata, and etc. Step 2: Place Source & Targets Place source HDD at source port, target HDDs to Target port. Step 3: Enter Function "1.Copy" Use to select "1.Copy", and then press "OK". Duplication will start to proceed. Note If the user set Wait HDD Time at 3-30 seconds, the machine will start duplicating automatically after HDDs initialize. If the user set wait key to start, need to press OK" to start. 9

10 The information below shows on LCD during duplication. 11 2. Compare It is used to check if the data on source HDD is identical to target HDD after duplication. Start to compare Step 1: Prepare Source and Targets Prepare the source HDD and target HDDs to compare after duplication is completed. Step 2: Place Source and Targets Place the source HDD to Source port, target HDDs to Target port. Step 3: Enter "2.Compare" Use to select 2.Compare then press OK. Data compare will proceed. Step 4: Completion! The result (Pass/Fail) and time will show on LCD after comparison completes. Caution The user is responsible to verify the targets quality. Please pick a few completed targets for testing in a mass production environment for QC. 3. Copy+Compare It makes copy first and then compare copied HDD with source HDD to confirm the accuracy. 11

12 Note It is recommended to execute Compare after Copy to confirm the accuracy. Can use the function 3. Copy+Compare. 4. Erase Please choose the appropriate erase method when you like to dispose or reuse the HDDs. You can set following settings before erase: (You can check more detail in 6. Setup.) I. Set Erase mode II. Set Erase Master Erase Master III. Set Erase Pattern Erase Pattern Caution It will erase the data in the HDD, please make sure you backup all important data before using this function. Start to erase Step 1: Prepare HDDs Prepare HDDs for disposal. Step 2: Place HDDs Insert HDDs for disposal into target port. Note Function "6.4.2 Erase Master" is to determine erase source HDD or not. Step 3: Enter function "4. Erase" Use to select the mode of erasing method, and then press "OK". Data Erase will proceed. 13 4.1 Quick Erase The function will ONLY erase the index of the HDD. It is the quickest way to erase HDD. 4.2 Full Erase The function will erase the whole sectors on the target HDD. It will take a longer time than quick erase. 4.3 DoD Erase (DoD M) This is to comply with the U.S.A. Department of Defense (DoD5220) standard to fully erase the HDD three times bit-by-bit to overwrite HDD data and guarantees data not recoverable. This DoD erase method will erase HDD over each sector three times: the first time with zeros (0x00), second time with FF(0xFF) and the third time with random characters. Erase pattern 4.4 DoD EraseComp (DoD M) Besides DoD erase 3 times, this function will also execute comparison to make sure the random bit is correctly written. 14 Note 1. The erasing duration of DoD Erase mode is 3 times longer than full erase mode. 2. The duration of DoD EraseComp is 4 times longer than full erase mode. 4.5 Secure Erase (NIST800-88) The international authorized high standard Secure Erase function. It overwrites every single track on the hard drive with "00". Even HPA/DCO or other data area which are not able to load, can be erased all together. Note Caution If you want to cancel executing work of Copy/Compare/Erase, you can press ESC for few seconds to stop the task. The user is responsible to verify the targets quality. Please pick a few completed targets for testing in a mass production environment for QC. 5. Utility 5.1 Show Disk Info. This function will show HDD's basic information such as HDD capacity and model number. Use to check the other port. Shows HDD information Port No. [01] 456GB ST AS HDD capacity HDD model number 5.2 Update System Step 1: Create an Update HDD Place a SDD/HDD to the duplicator. Select function "5.2 Create Update HDD". [Update System] 2. Create Update HDD 14

15 Step 2: Format BIOS HDD Click "OK" to format the BIOS hard disk. One FAT, 2GB partition will be formatted in HDD. That would reduce searching time, and speed up firmware update. Do FORMAT HDD#1 Confirm? Caution The data saved in this HDD will be erased. Step 3: Download Firmware Connect the BIOS HDD to PC. Download the latest firmware from PC and save it to HDD. Unzip BIOS, and save it to the root directory. Step 4: Enter "Update BIOS" Place the BIOS HDD into source port. Enter function "5.2.1 Update BIOS". Update will take about a minute to complete. [Update System] 1. Update BIOS Caution Please do not disrupt during BIOS update, otherwise it would cause irretrievable error on duplicator. We are not held responsible for any damages. 15

16 5.3 System Info. This function shows information of the duplicator includes model name and firmware version. HDD Dupe 1-1 Ver: Setup 6.1 Copy Area Users can set copy area of source HDD. Appropriate copy area can greatly reduce operation time and have better efficiency. There are four copy modes with different copy areas: ➊ System and Files ➋ ALL Partitions ➌ Whole HDD ➍ Percentage (%) Source Target System and Files Whole HDD 4 Copy Area System and Files Whole HDD ALL Partitions Percentage (%) % ALL Partitions Percentage (%) 16

17 System and Files (Quick Copy data area only) It will copy source HDD s System and Files instead of the whole HDD. The system will analyze the source HDD and identify the data area to copy. As long as the source HDD s data is within the target HDD s space, the copy will be processed. FAT16/32/64, NTFS, ext2/3/4, HFS+, HFS, HFX are supported for this copy mode. ALL Partitions Copy all of the partitions area bit-by-bit no matter if there is data that exists or not. The capacity of target HDDs have to be bigger than the partition required capacity. 18 Whole HDD Copies the whole source HDD, no matter of the content, format, partition or empty space. This mode does not analyze the data. The default is 0. You can choose or unlimited. [Skip Error] Language Select preferred language. You can select English or Japanese. 6.4 Advanced Setup Unknown Format This function allows you to select if you want to copy the unknown format area. This function will only affect Quick Copy. 19

[Unknown Format] Copy Unknown Erase Master It is set to allow erase source HDD or not. Please make sure of this setting before you execute DoD erase. The default setting is Disable. [Erase Master] Disable Erase Pattern Enable to select overwrite data pattern mode during erase. ONE Byte [00] or a fixed character will be written into every byte. 21 6.4.4 Wait HDD Time You can select auto-start time after plugging in HDD, able to set the waiting time from 3 to 30 seconds. The default is 15 seconds. [Wait HDD Time] 15 seconds Transfer Rate In order to make transfer to be stable. You can select the transfer rate from UDMA 2 to UDMA7 (fattest) for your HDD duplication progress. If you are not confident on the HDD quality or you find a high failure rate on copy or compare. It is recommended to slow down the UDMA mode. The default is UDMA5. [Transfer Rate] UDMA Stop Motor Time When the system finishes executing functions, the motor won t stop running immediately. This function is used to set the time of motor stopping after finishing function executing from 1 to 20 seconds. [Stop Motor Time] Restore Default Select and go back to the manufacturer's default setting. 21
