Introduction The PCIe-FRM6 is a board having the function of processing the frame data received from DVI (Digital Visual Interface) and transferred to PCI Express 4x interface. It supports FULL HD (90x080) and over resolution(90x00). DVI ports can be used simultaneously but is needed to high specification of PC. The PCIe-FRM6 demands a PC main board which has a high-specification because of processing high speed and high capacity data. The operation of the board is controlled by program API which is provided by DAQ System. Figure [-] shows connection of the system (usually PC). [Figure -. PCIe-FRM6 Board Usage] -3-

5 PCIe-FRM6 Users Manual (Rev.). PCIe-FRM6 Functions As shown in the following figure, main control of the board is performed in FPGA Core Logic. Primary functions are receiving the DVI data and transferring to PC. These functions can be controlled using API through PCI Express 4x interface. Functional Block Diagram] The core logic program of the FPGA is loaded by JTAG. It saves a program at the FPGA Program Logic and loads when power-up

7 PCIe-FRM6 Users Manual (Rev.) 3. PCIe-FRM6 Board Description In this chapter, the primary functions of the PCIe-FRM6 board are described briefly. For more information, refer to the device specification. 3. PCB Layout [Figure 3-. PCIe-FRM6 PCB Layout] The board has six LEDs to indicate the operation status. LED ~ LED4 turns on when PCI Express Lane (4 differential signal) is normal state. LED5 turns on when power is applied to the board and the initialization ends up. LED6 ~ LED7 turns on when the image is transmitted by DVI through CON. LED8 ~ LED9 turns on when the image is transmitted by DVI through CON

8 PCIe-FRM6 Users Manual (Rev.) 3. Description of the functional blocks () FPGA : U All of the board functions are controlled by the Logic program of the FPGA. () DVI Receiver : U4, U3 It is receiving DVI Data and transmitting to FPGA. (3) Regulator : U, U3, U7, U9, U, U5, U6 This block is for supplying the power to the board. (4) PCI Express Chipset : U5 This block is for PCI Express Bridge

If any of these items is missing or damaged, contact DAQ system. - PCIe-FRM6 board - CDROM (drivers/manual/api/samples etc.) After unpacking, inspect the board carton to make sure there are no damages on the board. 4. Installation Sequence To install your PCIe-FRM6 board in your PC, follow the steps described in the document How to install PCI DAQ Board provided by DAQ System. If the document is missing, you can get it from The PCIe-FRM6 board is completely Plug & Play. There are no switches or jumpers to set. Therefore you can install it easily. - Your OS requirement : Windows 000 SP4 or Windows XP SP above The PCIe-FRM6 connects to Express Card Port. After that you can show the below picture of New Hardware Search Wizard window. --

12 PCIe-FRM6 Users Manual (Rev.) The Add new Hardware Wizard will install the driver in the following process. If new hardware is found, Wizard will ask you to install the corresponding driver. For installation of the driver, select the item Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click Next as in the figure. --

And it must be displayed two drivers of PCIe-FRM6.) Important Notice : After installation, you should re-boot the system for the proper operation

17 PCIe-FRM6 Users Manual (Rev.) 5. Sample Program DAQ system provides a sample program to make the user be familiar with the board operation and to make the program development easier. You can find the sample program in the CDROM accompanying with the board. One of the execution file is FrmTest.exe. It stores the frame data to memory or hard-disk and displays it to Hexa-decimal values which can utilize necessary frame data to developers. The other is FrameView.exe. It is easy to understand frame data to display the screen. Before using it, you have to install the PCIe-FRM6 board and its drivers in your computer. Sample program is provided in source form in order to show the usage of API(Application Programming Interface) of the board and may be modified for customer s own usage. 5. FrmTest Program [Figure 5-. When Sample program FrmTest.exe is executed] -7-

18 PCIe-FRM6 Users Manual (Rev.) To run the sample application program, you need to use API, it is a form of client DLL. To compile the sample source to make its executable file, you have to use Import Library files and header files. You can find them in the CDROM. To run the.exe file, the API DLL file (PCI_FRM6.DLL) must be in the same directory with the.exe file or Windows system folder. Another method is to add the directory of API DLL file to PATH environmental variable. 5.. Functions related to image Frame () Get Frame Size button It finds a resolution of current input. () Device Selection Select the DVI input. (0 : Bottom DVI(CON), : Upper DVI(CON)) (3) Resolution Selection User can set up the resolution is 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 04 x 768, 80x70, 80x04, 600 x 00, 90 x 080, 90 x 00, 048x536, 560x048. If you select other resolution, you re-press this button. (4) Device Init button Press this button to initialize the image frame function. It is performed only once after power is applied to the board. (5) Start button Press this button to begin to save image data. (6) FRAME Read button Press this button to read the image frame data of the board to your PC. If image frame data is not saved on the board, you must wait until the end of data collection. (7) Save Data button Press this button to save the image frame data of PC to a file. (Not currently supported.) (8) Video Frame Mode It selects a Progressive or Interlace Mode according camera image. (Not currently supported.) -8-

19 PCIe-FRM6 Users Manual (Rev.) (9) Video Data Bits It selects among 8bit, 6bit YUV, 4bit BGR. (0) Frame View button When press this button, it displays a freeze-frame. () Auto View When check this box, it displays a video. () Frame Rate Frame rate per second (3) Auto Save When check this box, it save a file by BMP or JPEG format. (Not currently supported.) (4) Image Mode Selection Save as BMP or JPEG. (Not currently supported.) (5) Select Folder button It selects a folder for saving. It set D:\Image folder basically. (Not currently supported.) (6) Save Count The numbers of JPEG or BMP file in select folder. (Not currently supported.) (7) Close Device button Press this button to finish usage of the board and terminate the program. When Sample program FrameView.exe is executed] To run the sample application program, you need to use API, it is a form of client DLL. The image that is looked to a monitor as it accesses a DVI connector to PCIe- FRM6 board. () Select resolution Display resolution Select it as fitted to input resolution. Reverse --- Reverse On/Off () Save --- Save to D:\frame.dat. (It is fixed.) -0-

(5) View Fullscreen --- A screen shows all over an image. (6) Board # selection --- Select a DVI Input number (0 : Bottom DVI, : Upper DVI) (7) Device Start --- Start device which you selected. (8) Device Stop --- Stop device which you selected. (9) Clear Frame --- When press this button, it will be clear current frame. (0) Get Frame --- Get a just one frame. () Frame Auto Read --- When check this box, it get a frame continuously until re-check. () Exit --- Exit a program. --

22 PCIe-FRM6 Users Manual (Rev.) 6. Test 6. Receiving the image frame data [Figure 6-. Equipment Connection for Testing] Figure [6-] shows connection of the equipments. Although the PCIe-FRM6 is shown outside the PC in this figure, but actually it is located in a PCI slot inside the PC. At this connected state, turn the all power on and execute test program ( FrmTest.exe ) on the PC. Follow the steps to test the function of receiving image frame data. Step. : Press the LVDS init button to initialize the LVDS circuit and then press the Start button to save Image Frame data. Step : Press the Frame Read button. Then data are displayed on editor box. Compare the contents of the editor box with the data of the Image Frame Simulator. Comparison can be performed using the Save to button. It saves the contents of the editor box to a file. --
