1 CX-240: Hybrid Cloud Storage Server that Scales to 240TB of Local RAID plus Petabytes in Azure The CX-240 runs XenData Cloud File Gateway software on a Windows Server platform to store files on local RAID and the cloud with all content presented as a single file/folder volume. The physical location of files is intelligently managed by administrator defined policies. The system is optimized for video, image and other large files. This makes it ideal for a wide range of applications including creative media, video surveillance, medical imaging and many scientific and engineering uses. The storage system allows existing file-based applications to use cloud storage without need for modification. Its tiering policies keep frequently accessed files on local storage, which minimizes cloud access costs and Internet bandwidth usage. The CX-240 runs a Microsoft Windows Server 2016 operating system and the file system is presented as a logical drive letter that can be accessed locally or as one or more Windows network shares. It is fully compatible with the Microsoft security model based on Active Directory. The on-premises RAID is available with 24, 34 or 44 disks, with 6 TB individual disk capacities, providing usable RAID capacities of 120TB, 180TB or 240TB. If you start with 24 or 34 disks, the capacity may be increased by adding additional disks up to the maximum of 44. It uses RAID 60 which combines reliability and performance. Great Compatibility Optimized for video, image and other large files, the CX-240 easily integrates with a wide range of applications including those found in in video surveillance and media and entertainment. The CX-240 has great compatibility with a wide range of media and entertainment applications including Avid Interplay, axle Video MAMs, CatDV from Squarebox Systems, Dalet MAMs, emam, Metus MAM, MXFserver and Parking from Marquis Broadcast. It also supports partial file restore, which allows clip creation from large video files without downloading the full file.

2 Storage Policies The system administrator defines policies that determine how files are stored on the local RAID and in the cloud. In all cases, files are first written to the RAID. Then storage polices determine how each file is subsequently treated. Policies include the following options: RAID Only Retain on RAID permanently or until deleted and do not create any other instance of the file in the cloud. This is just like writing to RAID on a standard server. Keep on RAID and Mirror to the Cloud After a file is written to RAID, write another instance to the cloud storage. Retain instances on both tiers. This creates a copy on the cloud for data protection purposes. Cloud Only After a file is written to RAID, write another instance to the cloud storage. Then immediately replace the file on RAID with a stub file representation which frees up RAID space. By reading the stub file, the file is restored directly from the cloud storage. Cloud with Timed Retention on RAID After a file is written to RAID, write another instance to the cloud storage. RAID retention rules based on time after written and time after last read, replace the file on RAID with a stub file representation which frees up RAID space. By reading the stub file, the file is restored directly from the cloud storage. Groups of files can be given different policies and the groups are determined by folder location and file name. Policies can be tailored to meet the needs of specific folders. For example a group of files with the same policy may be all files written to a specific folder and its sub-folders. Policies can also be configured for specific file types. For example a policy can be set for all.tmp files which retains them only on RAID storage. Storage policies apply automatically to all new files written to the system. It is also possible to change policies after files have been written to the archive. For example, files initially written only to RAID may be copied to the cloud storage at a later date and then converted to stub files on the RAID simply by changing the policy. Functionality Unlimited Storage The content stored in the cloud is unlimited, easily scaling to multiple petabytes, and the data held on local disk can scale to 256 TB. A single gateway can store up to two billion files within the hybrid file system. Accepts All File Types The hybrid storage system accepts all file types from a 4K video file to a WORD document. Single File System The hybrid storage volume appears as a single logical drive letter. Consequently, the unlimited storage capacity of the system is presented in a single Windows file/folder structure. Tailored Local and Cloud Storage Policies - supporting local only, cloud only and local with cloud mirror options. Scheduling Optimizes Internet Bandwidth Time windows are scheduled so applications can write to local disk while postponing a copy being made to the cloud, allowing Internet bandwidth to be optimized when in high demand. Standard File Sharing and Security The system runs Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and files may be accessed locally or shared via SMB or FTP. The tiered storage volume is fully compliant with the Microsoft Windows security model based on Active Directory, allowing for easy introduction into an existing Windows domain or workgroup. USB 3.0 Ports Two USB 3.0 ports make it easy to connect USB drives for file transfer to the hybrid storage volume. RAID60 The 6 TB disks are configured in two groups, each of which has RAID6 protection. Each RAID6 group provides a high level of redundancy allowing two disk failures. The two groups are striped for performance. Partial File Restore Ideal for creative video applications, only a portion of a large file is required with PFR to create a video clip, avoiding the need to download the entire file. Data Mover API In addition to the file system interface, XenData Workflow API is available for the CX-240. It has an XML interface and its functionality includes the ability to pull assets from and push assets to a specified location, the option to batch and prioritize jobs and obtain job status.

3 Azure Cloud Storage The CX-240 manages either Hot and/or Cool Azure Blob Storage tiers: The Hot access tier is suitable when files are very frequently restored. The Cool access tier is preferred for applications with less frequent access. Files are first written to the RAID and queued for upload to Azure. Checksums are calculated for each block of data transferred to Azure and verified after transfer. All data transferred is encrypted using SSL. In addition Azure Storage Service Encryption (SSE) for Data at Rest protects your data to meet your organizational security and compliance commitments. With this feature, Azure Storage automatically encrypts your data prior to persisting to storage and decrypts prior to retrieval. The encryption, decryption, and key management are totally transparent to users. In addition to an Internet connection, the following subscriptions are required to use the CX-240 with Azure: A XenData Cloud File Gateway subscription An Azure Blob Storage Account subscription For users of the CX-240, XenData offers a Managed Azure Account subscription which combines the Blob Storage Account subscription, the XenData Cloud File Gateway subscription and premium technical support.
