11 . Step 14 Creating a Datum Line. Getting Started Underbody computer and wireless auto measuring 9 Datum Line- an imaginary straight line below the vehicle in which all height dimensions are referenced from. The sill of a vehicle is parallel to the datum line. Most major pulling and measuring equipment mount the vehicle on to the lower sill flanges and measure up from the platform. Establishing the datum line with the VERTEX 1.) Mount vial on the CLC Tram Bar shoulder screw located on the top of the black display box. Allocate a job number to be used only for creating Datum Lines. (Example: keep a job # such as for creating datum lines only. Simply go to this # each time a datum is to be established, clear the previous contents and enter the new.) 2.) Enter the Datum Height at Adapter (refer to STEP 8). Enter the Height at an undamaged point (refer to STEP 10). This undamaged point should be in the vehicles Tork Box area. 3.) Set tram to the zero position explained in STEP 15. Turn the tram on. 4.) Send the data that has just been entered to the black box by clicking on the Start Recording button (refer to STEP16). 5.) Set the height rod until the Diff column on the black box reads zero. Lock this height by tightening the height set screw. Extend the tram to the point of measure. Touch the tip of the height rod to the surface beside the hole when measuring to a hole or slot. Touch the tip of the height rod to the tip of the bolt head when measuring to a bolt. 6.) When tram is positioned, adjust the vial until it becomes level. The Datum Line is now established. IMPORTANT NOTE: Remember which direction (Front to Rear) the thumb screw on the vial is facing when creating a datum line. Always keep this direction when measuring.
