Summary GE Grid Solutions issues the Multilin 650 Family Firmware version 7.60 and Enervista Setup software The firmware is specific to the 650 Family of products and does not affect other devices. The 7.60 firmware and software version release for the 650 platform introduces software and firmware improvements to the affected C650 and F650 devices. This document contains the release note for firmware version 7.60 for the Multilin 650 Family of products. Affected products: C650 & F650 Firmware Release Date: July 06, 2017 Enervista Setup Release Date: July 15, 2017 New 650 firmware and Enervista Setup software can be downloaded from the links below, based on device type: F650: C650: Note: For existing 650 devices installed with firmware version below 7.0x, you must obtain a new relay to benefit from the enhancements described in this release note. If the new features and enhancements are not needed, no upgrade of the relays is required. 3 Release details In the following change descriptions, a revision category letter is placed to the left of the description. Refer to the Appendix at the end of this document for additional details. Multilin 650 Family - Firmware version 7.60 Release Details: C Implemented Security Service Command option This change improves relay security against unauthorized access to settings. A passcode is used for authenticated access to settings. In previous versions, the front panel and Modbus communications displayed an encrypted cipher text of the passcode. DNP communication did not present this cypher text. Version 7.60 disables access to the encrypted cipher text. C Enhanced IEC communication task management Enhanced GOOSE and IEC task management to prevent relay from loss of communication: Under certain circumstances, Port 102 (TCP/UDP) could be blocked when a high number of GOOSE and REPORT tasks were configured and sent at the same time. In this case, IEC communication could stop until the relay was rebooted. In this new version, new IEC internal task management has been implemented to avoid task overlap. If a high number of files was shared through MMS file transference services, the relay could stay in a loop sending those files continuously, delaying other IEC tasks. In this new version, the number of event check loops has been limited. N Added support for new flash memory, MT28EW512 Added support for the new alternate part, MT28EW512. Bootware version has been increased from 7.12 to This new bootware is embedded together with 7.60 firmware version in a unique *.SFD file. New hardware revision, 11, has been created to identify devices which contain this new flash memory. Devices with hardware revision 11 or above will not accept firmware version below C Fixes in DNP3.0 and Modbus RTU protocols Fixes related to DNP3.0 and Modbus RTU communication protocols: Modbus communication was blocked in COM2 when DNP 3.00 or IEC was enabled on this port. In this new release, Modbus communication is available even if other protocols are enabled on COM2. DNP 3.0 protocol through Serial communications was not working at lower baud rates (300, 600,1200 and 9600) Modbus commands and requests were accepted before the relay was completely initialized. In this new release, Modbus communication is not initialized until the relay is fully operative. 3

4 G Fixes in Fault Report Some fixes related to Fault Report have been implemented: Voltage and Current measurements of Fault Reports are displayed divided by 1000 on the HMI. In the 7.60 firmware version, voltage and current measurement are correctly displayed. If the relay was powered-down and powered-up, when the Shown on HMI fault report setting was enabled, the last fault report was not being shown on the HMI. However, the fault report was stored and available for downloaded with Enervista. In this new release, the last fault report is also available to be displayed on HMI. C New actual value available to verify whether F650 is working with CID Edition 1 or Edition 2 A new actual value has been created in this new firmware version. This value allows customers to check whether F650 is working with CID Edition 1 or CID Edition 2. This new actual value is available in Enervista or HMI menus in Actual Values Status System Info. E Improvements in management of LED status, Remote/Local, Out of service and HMI Backlight signals when used in Logic configuration In firmware version from 7.00 to 7.52, if any of these signals was linked to a Timer into Logic configuration, the signal needed to be activated for more than 500ms to activate the Output linked to the same timer. In this new firmware, the output will be activated if signal is activated only during time equal to the scan-cycle (2 ms in standard conditions). 650 Enervista Setup - Software version Details: N New default configuration files (PLC (*.pep, *.aut,*.dbg) and *.650) for 7.60 and 5.77 firmware version C650 and F650 default configuration files (PLC (*.pep,*.aut, *.dbg) and *.650) for firmware version 7.60 have been included in this new Enervista 650 Setup version. F650 default configuration files (PLC and *.650) for firmware version 5.77 are also included. G Updated PLC default configuration files (PLC (*.pep, *.aut,*.dbg)) for firmware versions 7.50 and 7.52 C650 and F650 PLC files (*.pep, *.aut,*.dbg) for firmware versions 7.50 and 7.52 have been rebuilt and will be provided with the new Enervista 650 Setup software. Previous files contained some incorrect Mnemonics that caused PLC errors if these files were used and compiled into *.650 files. G Fixes related to the Logic Configuration menu in Enervista 650 Setup Multilin 650 family firmware and Enervista Setup 4

5 Fixes in Enervista 650 setup at Setpoint Logic Configuration Menu: Float Remote Analog inputs are available in this new Enervista 650 Setup version When adding a new timer mask in a project, an unknown time mask was selected by default if any timer mask was selected from drop-down list. In this new release, the default time mask displayed in this case is TIMER MASK 1. N Detection of corrupted *.lib files in PLC projects A new check during PLC project compilation has been implemented. This new feature verifies whether any *.lib files that have been used in a project are corrupted. If a corrupted file is detected, a pop-up window indicates which *.lib file must be deleted and re-inserted. G F650 upgrade process improvement New checks during the upgrade process have been implemented. These checks avoid sending a firmware package for special models to F650 standard models. If firmware for special models is used to upgrade standard model relays, the relays could malfunction. G Fixes in 650 configuration file (*.650) conversion process Fixes related to the *.650 file conversion process in Enervista 650 Setup (File Config File (*.650) Converter Menu) When converting a *.650 file from version 7.21 to version 7.50, settings of Underfrequency and Overfrequency functions were missed. In the new Enervista 650 Setup, these settings are properly converted. When converting from a C650 *.650 file (7.50 version) to a F650 *.650 file (version 7.50), all Protection function blocks were enabled. In the new Enervista 650 Setup, protection function blocks are disabled when this conversion is performed. 5

6 Upgrade path Firmware compatibility The 7.60 firmware is not compatible with firmware versions below 7.0x or any previous F650 CPU hardware, i.e F650 whose order code contains Rear Ethernet Communication Board option B, C, D or E. Existing B, C, D and E options still benefit from the previous CPU hardware. The released firmware version runs only on the new models with Rear Ethernet Communication Board options: G, H, J, K, L & M. The 7.60 firmware requires EnerVista 650 Setup software version 7.60 or higher. GE suggests using the latest version of the software. Upgrading 650 devices installed with firmware versions below 7.0x requires replacement of the whole relay. New relays require choosing from the new [G, H, J, K, L or M] characters in the ordering code under the Rear Ethernet Communication Board 2 option. Enervista 650 Setup software can convert settings files from an older version to the latest version. It also provides a tool to compare settings files from different versions, generating a Difference Report. This Difference Report identifies new settings and additional information to assist the user during the upgrade process. Software Compatibility The minimum operative system requirements for the EnerVista 650 Setup software are as follows: Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended) Windows 7 Windows 8 Multilin 650 family firmware and Enervista Setup 6
