5 Listening Inspection The Listening inspection is necessary to ensure the proper sound quality and performance of the hearing instrument. Program selections (beeps) Check for noise Check for distortion Check for feedback Check for intermittence Check directionality

9 Functional Inspection The Functionality inspection is necessary to ensure the proper functionality of the hearing instrument and its features. 10 Remote control distance test The remote control distance test shows if the hearing instrument reacts to the Smart Control signal. When checking HI with Smart Control you should do the following: Insert a battery in the HI Change program at least 5 times and check with stethoclip Change volume up and down at least 5 times and check with stethoclip If distance can not be reached, HI should be sent back to assembly and check the telecoil placement.

12 HiBan Link distance test The HiBan link distance test shows if the hearing instrument s HiBan coils are functional at 20cm distance. To perform HiBan link distance test you need to: Insert a battery into both HI s Wait at least 5 sec before starting the test Change program on one unit while listening to the other at least 3 times with 4 seconds stop in between the program changes

14 HiBan link distance test with RTU The HiBan link distance test shows if HiBan coil is functional at 20 cm distance when only one instrument is returned for repair. When testing HiBan link distance test make sure you: Have the opposite side RTU for checking hearing instruments., example: a right RTU will only work with a left wireless HI Insert the battery Change the program on the RTU at least 3 times and check the hearing instrument with stethoclip. Instructions for RTU (Reference Test Unit) creation are in the u:set help files

16 Telecoil test Cycle program switch to the telecoil program. The microphones will be switched off and the telecoil will be audible (no distortion, no noise) The telecoil can be tested with a testing device for telecoils or with a telephone receiver.

17 Magnetic switch test (EasyPhone) When testing the magnetic switch, center a magnet to the BTE hearing instrument. The hearing instrument should: Automatically switches to the T-coil program when the magnet is held to the hearing instrument Automatically switches back to the previous microphone program when the magnet is taken away. For ITE hearing instruments: Center a magnet over the battery door and 15 mm from t Automatically switches to the T-coil program when the magnet is held to the hearing instrument Automatically switches back to the previous microphone program when the magnet is taken away

18 Volume control For BTE hearing instruments with a rocker style volume control, push the rocker up for volume increase and down for volume decrease. For ITE hearing instruments with a rotational volume control, for volume up rotate the volume control counterclockwise for on a left hearing instrument and clockwise on a right hearing instrument. 19 IIC volume control test This volume control test is for IIC only using the micro CIC remote. Insert a size 10a battery. Point the remote to the front side of the faceplate as shown and listen for a beep change. Attention Never point a Micro CIC remote on the component side!

20 Push button Check if push button is working. Manufacturing programs should be heard. Each program will sound with a beep or multiple beeps.

23 ANSI ANSI= American National Standard Institute The standard describes air conduction hearing-aid measurement methods that are particularly suitable for specification and tolerance purposes. Among the test methods described are output sound pressure level (SPL) with a 90-dB input SPL, full-on gain, frequency response, harmonic distortion, equivalent input noise, current drain, inductioncoil sensitivity, and static and dynamic characteristics of automatic gain control (AGe) hearing aids. Specific configurations are given for measuring the input SPL to a hearing aid. There is allowable tolerance according to product specifications.

29 Measuring in the box Note: Frye needs to be calibrated prior to testing Use HA-2 coupler when testing BTE s. Front microphone needs to be centered in the blue circle. Follow data sheet for proper ear hook for BTE s. After placing the hearing instrument in the chamber, close the lid, press reset then ANSI and select it. Press menu and set aid according to type of being tested, set Telecoil off and press start.
