The CHATILLON TCD225 digital force tester is a revolutionary new testing system optimized for production testing applications. There is no personal computer required; no proprietary software required; no knowledge of programming languages required. The TCD225 provides you with an easy-to-use, intuitive, and straight-forward method for tensile testing, compression testing, sheer testing, flexural testing or advanced multi-stage testing that conform to ISO or AS testing procedures. Its easy and its fast. Testing Without Compromise The TCD225 Series can be setup to perform virtually any type of test in seconds. All tests are created using a series of stages. Stages are represented graphically and selected from a menu. Every stage has independent variables that you define. A test setup can have any number of stages. You can combine stages to perform sophisticated and complex multi-variable test setups. The stage types are: Tensile Stage The tensile stage causes the crosshead to move upward. A tensile stage may be configured to stop at a limit based on a measured load or distance, or at a break condition. The tensile stage has its own independent speed. Compression Stage The compression stage causes the crosshead to move downward. A compression stage may be configured to stop at a load limit or distance limit, or a rupture condition. The compression stage has its own independent speed. Loop Stage The loop stage is similar to the cycle stage except that it provides a measured result for every cycle in the test setup. Cycle Stage The cycle stage lets you cycle a set of tensile or compression stages. The cycle can be setup to repeat a series of stages for a specified time period (HH:MM:SS) or for a specified number of times. If time is selected, a countdown timer is displayed showing the time remaining, plus measurements to date. If the cycle is based on a number of counts, the TCD225 displays the counts remaining. A cycle stage reports the first and last measurement for the number of cycles within the test setup. Hold Stage The hold stage lets you hold a load value or a distance position for a specified period of time (HH:MM:SS). You can perform creep tests, constant load tests, relaxation tests or any test where you need to hold the sample at a specified load or distance value. The TCD225 Series advanced close-loop position control will precisely maintain its position or load throughout the hold period. 0 Stage The 0 stage lets you establish a primary datum that is used to zero your load measurement or distance measurement prior to data being collected. You may also add multiple incremental datums that can be helpful when you need to pre-condition a sample prior to testing or to establish a reference zero for a particular measurement within the test setup. Ask (?) Stage If you want to add a comment for the operator, you can do so using the? (ask) stage. The ask stage can be used to display a comment for a specified period of time or a comment that requires user acknowledgement. Cycle Test Setup Shown is an example of a cycle test setup with three independent stages. The test is cycling three times between a distance of inch and zero. The speed of each stage of the test is inches per minute. The speeds could be different since each stage has independent variables.

3 Advanced Operator Interface We developed the new TCD225 with the operator s needs foremost in mind. We worked in cooperation with Metronics, a world-leader in operator interfaces, to develop the TCD console around their renown Gage-Chek platform. Our new console makes use of templates, menus and prompts to guide the user through the setup process without the need for complex and expensive 3rd-party application software. Setups can be preformed in seconds. Results can be displayed as the user wants the information to be displayed in a clear, uncomplicated manner. Data can be easily exported to computers or other software applications if required. Bar code devices can be incorporated so that using a bar code reader, test setups can be called up automatically and performed by authorized personnel. One Machine, One Source The TCD225 is simple to use and maintain. We don t rely on third-party and expensive software applications to function. In fact, we don t require a personal computer or software to operate. If you need technical support, contact your authorized Chatillon representative for assistance. Up to ten results can be measured for a test. You can rename, resize and reorder how your results are displayed on the high resolution color LCD screen.

4 Testing Methods Your TCD225 Series allows you to create virtually any type of test within seconds and without having to know complex and expensive 3rd-party software application programming. Perform any of the following tests or create tests that comply with AS, ISO, DIN, TAPPI, etc. standards. Load Limit Distance Limit Time Limit Break Rupture Burst Peel Friction Snap On/Off Insert/Extract Bend Creep Relaxation Cycle Loop Spring Rate Ramp/Soak Load Average Shear Height Measurement Your TCD225 Series can be used to determine heights of samples. It is ideal for testing and validating springs, foams and materials where you need to accurately determine spring and relaxation rates over time. The system can be placed into Height mode that includes an automated datum detection procedure. When in height mode, the height of the sample is displayed based on an absolute zero position and a home position that is defined by the user. Data Acquisition In a Flash Your TCD225 Series can measure and collect data at a true 1000 samples per second. The sample rate can be configured from Hz. Your data is used to plot the graphical result or it can be downloaded automatically to a USB flash drive. The flash drive can then be taken to a personal computer where the data can be uploaded and used by Excel or other OLE2 compatible applications. Saving Your Tests The USB flash drive can also be used to save your test results or your test setups. You can even restrict what tests get performed on your TCD225 by user. Or, save your test setups to your USB drive and to another manufacturing facility so that both operations perform identically. The USB flash drive is also an inexpensive way to document and backup your test setups to ensure compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 applications. Secure Access The AUTORUN feature permits you to restrict the operation of a test to authorized user(s) only. You can configure a test setup and save to a USB flash drive. Your TCD225 Series tester can be configured to operate only when the USB flash drive is plugged into the machine with the correct test setup. If no USB flash drive is connected, the TCD225 Series will not perform a test. Test setups can be securely saved on multiple USB flash drives and kept in a secure location by a production supervisor. The supervisor can load the USB flash drive and authorize the operator to perform the desired test setup. All results and raw data can automatically be saved to the USB flash drive for all tests performed. Height Mode Operation Use the Height mode whenever you need to measure the height of your sample. Ideal for accurate spring testing, the height mode function includes an automated find datum procedure. Tests using the height mode measure the height of the sample from the pre-defined datum position. USB Serial Interface A USB serial hub can be used to interface your TCD225 with printers, bar code devices, keyboards etc. You can automatically save large raw data files to a USB mass storage drive. The USB port is compatible to USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 standards.

5 We Speak Your Language The TCD225 Console can display text information in multiple languages. Select the display language that is most appropriate for the user. The following languages are supported: English Spanish Chinese - Traditional Chinese - Simplified French German Portuguese Italian Korean Russian Turkish Other languages available Safe Operations Your TCD225 Series has a host of features designed to optimize testing and protect your users and equipment. Mechanical limits are provided on the front of the column to prevent accidental distance over-ranging. The crosshead will stop when either the upper or lower limit switch is engaged. A rule is provided as a reference to position your mechanical limit switches. Language Setup Screen Use the language setup screen to specify the display language that best suits the operator. Templates, menus and prompts will be displayed in your desired language. Pinch Load A pinch load is used to stop the crosshead when a load of up to 15 lbf (7 kgf) is sensed when the crosshead is moving downward while in manual mode. Load Limit Options The TCD225 Series includes a series of load limit options designed to prevent accidental overloads. The system automatically recognizes the load cell that is connected to the machine. Measured load status is displayed by the console s load bargraph and crosshead status indicator: green displays when the measured load is within 75% of the sensor s capacity; yellow displays when the measured load is 75% to 95% of the sensor s capacity; red displays when the measured load exceeds 95% of the sensor s capacity. The system maintains a record of overloads including the date and time when the overload occurred. Thumb wheel Crosshead Control An innovative thumb wheel is located on the front of the machine. The thumb wheel is used when you need to carefully position the crosshead when affixing and aligning your fixtures. The thumb wheel works like a mouse thumb wheel- rotate the wheel upward causes the crosshead to move upward; rotate the wheel downward causes the crosshead to move downward; rotate the wheel quickly causes the crosshead to move quickly. Load Setup Screen Use the load setup screen to define your pinch load and grip load. The grip load corresponds to your fixture s load capacity. The Cell Capacity and Frame Capacity are automatically sensed by the system. Thumb wheel Operation Use the thumb wheel to manual position the crosshead during test setup procedures and fixture alignment. You can control crosshead position and speed precisely by rotating the thumb wheel.

6 Measure Precisely Your TCD225 Series uses Chatillon TLC Series load cells. The system automatically recognizes the sensor s capacity once it is connected to the console. These sensors are calibrated on-site to better than 0.1% full scale by your authorized Chatillon representative. The TLC Series load cells can also be used on the Chatillon DFS-R-ND handheld force gauge. Graphical Results Your TCD225 Series can display your results graphically. Load can be displayed based on distance or time. You can define the number of data points to be used to construct your graph up to 1000 points per second. Using the navigation keys, you can select any point on the graph and read the precise load and distance result for that point. Your data points can be automatically output to an attached USB flash drive for direct exporting into Excel, Word, Access or other OLE2 compatible applications for report generation and analysis. You can also print your data to a USB-compatible printer. Statistical Results Your TCD225 Series will display statistical results including pass/fail analysis based on your defined tolerances. Tolerances for any measured result can be established based on upper/lower limits or a nominal value. Results reported outside of your tolerance are displayed in red with the tolerance value to call attention to the offset. A separate STATS display also displays the statistical results for each coefficient specified including the limits, maximum, minimum, average, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation (COV). TLC Series Load Cells Calibrate to better than 0.1% full scale. Measurement system meets or exceeds AS E4, BS 1610, DIN 51221, ISO , EN , AFNOR A AMETEK recommends on-site verification at the time of installation by an authorized Chatillon representative, as required by AS E4 and ISO TLC Sensor can be used on the Chatillon DFS-R-ND digital indicator. Tabular Results View your results in a table format. You can see each coefficient, its actual result, direction, and tolerance limits. The example shows that the peak load for stage 1 was lbf. This value was in tensile direction. The result failed since the result falls outside the two limits. The left column shows the runs (tests) for the test setup called BREAK. The runs shown in read have failed. Note that test 5 does not appear- this test was deleted by the operator. A special Mark Deletions option can be specified that will display all results. A red strikethru will show for a test that was deleted by the operator. Graphical Results View results graphically. You can view load versus time and load versus distance graphs. The example shows a load versus time graph for test #2. Use the navigation keys to position the blue crosshair over the precise point you want to view data for. The crosshair is positioned over a point on the graph that represents a load value of lbf and a distance value of inches. You can specify up to 1000 data points per second for your graph. Statistical Results View statistical results. The example shows the peak load value for test #2. The load of lbf was measured in tension. The STATS screen shows total tests (runs) for the BREAK test setup. The maximum, minimum and range values are displayed. Also displayed is the average load, standard deviation and coefficient of variation for all loads.

7 Measure and Display What You Need The TCD225 Series provides you with a comprehensive library of measurement coefficients. Coefficients are symbols that represent a measured variable. Select the coefficient from the library that you want the system to provide a result for. There are three categories of coefficients: Load Coefficients, Distance Coefficients and Others. Each test may report up to ten coefficients. Rename Your Coefficient Coefficients are used as symbols to represent a measured result. Symbols are used to maximize the available display area. You may rename your coefficient so it is more easily recognized by the user or in your data outputs. Format Your Coefficient You can reformat how a coefficient is displayed in your results. You can define the size of the result and the order of the result on your display. You can add a page break if you want primary results displayed first and secondary results displayed in the background. Customize Your Displayed Results You can customize your displayed results making use of the library of coefficients. Coefficients can be sized and renamed. You can also reorder the result so that information can be displayed on one screen or multiple screens. Load Coefficients You can specify load coefficients that you want to measure and collect data for. Select from these options: Peak Load Minimum Load Break Load Load at Limit Average Load Relaxation Rate Distance Coefficients You can specify distance (deflection or extension) coefficients that you want to measure and collect data for. Select from these options: Peak Load Minimum Load Break Load Limit Creep Rate Peak Distance Minimum Distance Other Coefficients You can specify other coefficients that you want to measure and collect data for. Select from these options: Cycles Completed Test Duration Test Pass/Fail Result Status Record Number Date Time Each coefficient selected for a stage may have its own independent tolerance setting for pass/fail and quality analysis.

11 Real-Time Operating Status The TCD225 Console will provide real-time measurement status of load, distance, height and speed during a test. Status indicators, including a measured load bargraph will indicate direction, crosshead movement and active load measurement. If the measured load is within the recommended range of the connected TLC load cell, the graph and crosshead status indicator will display green. If the measured load is between 75% and 95% of the TLC load cell s capacity, the indicators will display yellow. If the measured load is beyond 95% of the TLC load cell s capacity the indication is red prompting the operator to proceed with caution. The system also maintains an overload history for each TLC load cell that has been used with the console. Improve Productivity and Testing Efficiency The TCD225 Series will increase your testing efficiency and operator productivity and ensure that the correct test is performed for your specific parts, products, or samples. Using standard bar code devices, you can scan your sample s bar code and the TCD225 will automatically launch the associated test setup for your sample. The operator just selects the Start key. Results can be saved automatically to your USB port and saved on a USB flash drive or a USB-compatible mass storage device. You can also make use of the AUTORUN feature that allows prevents a test setup from being performed unless the correct USB flash drive with test setup is installed in the TCD Console s USB data port. The test is performed directly from the USB flash drive and data is automatically saved to the USB flash drive. Disconnect the USB flash drive and the test can no longer be performed. Ideal for applications requiring ultimate security. Use bar code technology to automatically request a test setup.
