4 Safety Issues Electrical Concerns CDRPan conforms to national (U.S.) and international standards for electromagnetic compatibility and electrical safety. A complete list of specifications can be found in Appendix A-1 of this document. Mechanical Considerations The Sensor package, the Remote Module, and the cables of the CDRPan system are mounted outside of the patient area to ensure patient safety and reliable equipment operation. Radiation Concerns No adjustments or alterations are made to the X-ray source of the panoramic equipment. RF Interference Considerations Although the CDRPan equipment is designed to provide a reasonable degree of protection from electromagnetic interference, according to IEC International regulations, it must be installed at an adequate distance from electricity transformer rooms, static continuity units, two-way amateur radios and cellular phones. To ensure proper operation, the latter can be used only at a minimum distance of 5 feet (1.5m) from any part of the equipment. Any instrumentation or equipment for professional use located near CDRPan equipment must conform to Electromagnetic Compatibility regulations. Non-conforming equipment, with known poor immunity to electromagnetic fields, may not operate properly unless they are installed at a distance of at least 10 feet (3m) from CDRPan equipment and supplied by a dedicated electric line. ii B Rev. 26 Immunity Test IEC Test Level Compliance Level Guidance Conducted RF IEC Vrms 150 khz to 80 MHz 3 Vrms Portable and mobile RF communication equipment should be used no closer to any part of the CDRPan system, including its cables, than the recommended separation distance calculated from the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter. Radiated RF IEC V/m 80 MHz to 2.5 GHz Recommended separation distance: d= 1.2 P 3 V/m d= 1.2 P for 80 MHz to 800Mhz d= 2.3 P for 800 MHz to 2.5Ghz Where P is the maximum output rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter manufacturer and d is the recommended separation in meters (m). Field strengths from fixed RF transmitters, as determined by an electromagnetic site survey, a should be less than the compliance level in each frequency range. b Interference may occur in the vicinity of equipment marked with the following symbol. NOTE 1: At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the higher frequency range applies. NOTE 2: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people a Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the CDRPan system is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance above, the CDRPan system should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as reorienting or relocating the CDRPan system. b Over the frequency range 150 khz to 80 MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 V/m 22 B Rev.
