2 The EOSC Vision "The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is a vision for a trusted, federated, globally accessible, multidisciplinary environment where researchers, innovators, companies and citizens can publish, find, use and reuse each other's data, tools, publications and other outputs for research, innovation and educational purposes." 2

4 Key challenges o Still a lack of widespread awareness of the value of data and of incentives for data sharing. o Lack of common standards to ensure inter-operability of data. o Need for more ICT capacity for scientific computing, storage, connectivity. o Fragmentation and lack of coordination over different scientific communities and countries. o Need to translate recent changes in privacy, data protection and copyright rules to the research data domain. 4

8 EOSC and EDI (EURO-HPC) EOSC as the primary delivery channel for HPC (important part of EOSC scientific stakeholders are HPC users and part of PRACE user community) HPC centers (PRACE) are part of EOSC cloud architecture consortium now designed to accommodate interlinks on both sides Access to HPC machines either by the EOSC cloud or directly via PRACE GEANT as provider of connectivity with and within HPC facilities (+ AAI) 2-types of data centers foreseen: computing-related data centers (part of PRACE) & general data storage centers (part of EOSC). Links on governance between EOSC and EURO-HPC will be defined at later stage Interconnection between federated computing and data service architectures will be in our agenda in
