IaaS vendors provide outsourced servers, OS, storage, datacenter space, network equipment, etc., via a virtualized environment paid for by end users on an on-demand basis. Under the IaaS banner, we delineate revenue by compute and storage as a service and stand-alone cloud storage offerings. PaaS offerings are designed to support the entire application lifecycle development, testing, deployment, runtime, hosting (either self-provided or by a third party) and delivery on a single platform. Sometimes termed virtual dedicated hosting, virtual private server (VPS) is similar to shared and dedicated web hosting, and is frequently positioned as a stepping stone between the two by hosting providers. VPS was originally conceived as a way for service providers to use virtualization to provide customers with some of the isolation and performance benefits of dedicated hosting at a more attractive price. A cloud environment operated by a service provider on the service provider s premises wherein all the servers and storage provisioned are dedicated to a single tenant and often physically segregated from other IaaS environments. A single-tenant IaaS environment where the basic unit of compute is a single physical server in varying capacities, provisioned and orchestrated in accordance with NIST definitions for IaaS, offering scalability of fabric. Dedicated hosting is the leasing or rental of a server by the customer. That server is dedicated to a single customer it is not shared, regardless of how it is used. Customers exercise full control over the server beyond physical maintenance, and the hosting provider will not generally include administrative services aside from ensuring the server s ability to function at a hardware level. Cloud storage services provide persistent block, file and object data storage and data access for applications and remote users. Object storage services are used for handling unstructured datasets and are accessed through standardized APIs, while block storage is used for transactional data and looks like virtual disks to virtual machines in a cloud.

8 Application Segment Definitions Web Hosting Web hosting services combine hosted server infrastructure and basic software building blocks (operating system, database, web server, scripting language) in a platform for hosting websites. Customers are charged monthly for a limited set of storage and compute resources. Web Presence Web presence services address a similar use case to web hosting (typically small-scale websites), but do so by delivering browser-based website editing software as the primary user interface. In some cases, these services may abstract infrastructure resources altogether, instead offering pricing based on pages and monthly visits. Application Hosting Application hosting is frequently offered as a complement to web hosting services. In an application hosting environment, the hosting provider maintains its own multi-tenant instance of the software, selling customers access by the seat, site or other appropriate measure. This is distinct from a pure SaaS product, in which the software vendor itself operates the multi-tenant software installation, and all usage is based on the same platform, and managed application hosting, in which a managed hosting provider will provide application management services for a customer s individual deployment of an application. 9 Service Segment Definitions DR, Backup, Archiving Managed Security Managed Application Networking/CDN Operational Managed Disaster recovery, backup and archiving is a virtualized, single- or multi-tenant outgrowth of traditional DR provisioned from an IaaS/hosted environment and available as needed as a managed service. Client configurations and data are stored and updated as needed, but infrastructure is not deployed, consumed or paid for until triggered. File backup and data archive services are software-based on-demand cloud storage services that are limited to data storage. Traditional disaster recovery/business-continuity services require pre-installed and purchased infrastructure to fully replicate client environments, as well as managed services to maintain it. The managed security service market entails the outsourcing of some or all IT security functions to a service provider that monitors and manages the environment from an off-site location. Included in our definition are providers that take over management of on-premises security technology belonging to the customer, or that deploy security technology to the customer's premises and manage it from off-site. Recently, this definition has begun to expand to include management of the security of the customer s public or private cloud environment (such as incident response for incidents affecting the customer s public cloud resources), or of the customer s security functionality deployed in a public or private cloud (such as a hosted deployment of virtualized SIEM, for example). This definition excludes all services performed on-premises, including consulting and integration. Application services include application strategy and portfolio optimization, development, transformation, integration and acceleration/deployment. Networking services are associated with caching, encoding, network performance and route optimization, DNS services, and load balancing. Content delivery networks are a system of highly distributed servers and storage to deliver content (including static web objects, web pages and files) and applications over the internet. Operational managed services include infrastructure/application monitoring and alerting, premium 24/7 support services, enterprise mobility management services, incident management and remediation, enhanced SLA, and capacity-planning services.
