Overview 2.1 Description This rackmount fiber enclosure supports up to three fiber adapter panels or LGX cassettes. It has an internal tray that pulls out towards the user, providing plenty of room to manage the fiber cable behind the fiber adapter panels. The tray has a pair of rail stops to prevent the tray from pulling out all the way, which could damage the installed bulk fiber and fiber splicing. The tray locks in place when closed by using a pair of front push/pull buttons to secure the tray inside the enclosure. The fiber enclosure is rackmountable and only requires 1RU of mounting space. The rack mounting ears support both 19" and 23" cabinets and can be front- or center-mounted, depending on the user s application. The enclosure includes two pairs of distribution rings to provide cable management for the fiber distribution cable trunk entering the enclosure from the back. You can reposition the distribution rings in various ways, depending upon your application. If required, the enclosure can support up to a pair of Fiber Splice Trays (sold separately). Using the distribution rings and optional Fiber Splice Tray, you can set up different internal configurations for your application. 3 1U Pull-Out Fiber Splice Tray Enclosure 3. Installation 1. Find one rack unit of space in your data cabinet or rack to mount the fiber enclosure. 2. The mounting ears are attached in the 19" front mounting position from the factory, but you can adjust them to suit your cabinet. NOTE: The fiber cabinet ships with the mounting ears installed. It supports optional 23" and center mounting. 3. Use the supplied cup-head screws to securely mount the enclosure to your data cabinet. Installing Fiber in the Chassis The installer may choose to use fiber adapter panels or LGX-style cassettes in this chassis or a combination of both. Typically, distribution cable is used with fiber adapter panels and MTP MPO-style connectors fiber trunk assemblies are used for LGX cassettes. LGX-Style Cassettes 1. Slide the internal tray forward. 2. On an LGX style cassette, pull back the two buttons for installation and choose a location on the internal bracket where you want to install the cassette. 3. Load up to 3 LGX cassettes in the chassis, depending upon your application. 4. Connect the MTP MPO-style connectors trunk assembles to the cassette from the rear of the chassis. NOTE: Because of the number of fiber strands this enclosure can support, be sure to identify your MTP MPO-style connectors trunk assemblies on the cassette from the rear. 5. Organize your trunk assemblies with the cable ties supplied. 6. Close the tray by sliding it forward and locking it with the two locking buttons. Distribution Style Fiber Cable 1. Slide the internal tray forward. 2. On the fiber adapter panels, pull back the two buttons for installation and choose a location on the internal bracket where you want to install them. 3. Load up to three fiber adapter panels in the chassis depending upon your application. Page 3

4 1U Pull-Out Fiber Splice Tray Enclosure 4. With the internal tray forward, route multi-strand distribution fiber cable (not included) through the rectangular openings in the rear of the chassis. 5. Use the Kevlar clamp to secure the multi-strand distribution fiber to the cabinet. Loosen the Kevlar clamp s two screws and wrap the cable s Kevlar yarn around the clamp. Tighten the screws to secure the multi-strand distribution fiber to the cabinet. NOTE: The Kevlar clamp can be mounted on the chassis internal tray on the left or right side. 6. Terminate the fiber optic connectors on the multi-strand distribution fiber cable, or make the splice as needed. Connect the fiber cable termination to the rear of the fiber adapter panel. NOTE: If you need to make fiber splicing inside the chassis, use the Fiber Splice Tray (sold separately). 7. Use the distribution rings to help organize the fiber strands on the tray. 8. Organize your trunk assemblies with the supplied cable ties. 9. To close the tray, slide it forward and lock it with the two locking buttons. Figure 3-1. Inside front view of the fiber adapter panel.
