5 Achievements since PP 2010 ITU fostered the growth of telecommunications/icts Paved the way for the mobile and satellite industries to roll out future generations beyond 4G, and towards 5G, via the approval of radio-interface specifications for IMT- Advanced and satellite IMT-Advanced Delivered real bandwidth efficiencies: 50% less bandwidth to be used by the 80% of video transmitted online, by the approval of the ITU- T H.265 standard, the successor of H.264 goldstandard Brought fibre technologies closer to the home and accelerated roll-out of superfast broadband, by working towards delivering the G.fast standard of 1 Gb/s over copper and enabling operators to make most use of their existing networks 5

6 Achievements since PP 2010 ITU worked towards bridging the digital divide Assisted in developing and strengthening regional and national enabling environments Assisted in preparing wireless broadband master plans and national broadband policies (NBPs) Assisted in the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting Built capacity in infrastructure and network engineering, planning and exploitation Contributed to the digital inclusion of women and girls, persons with disabilities, youth and Indigenous Peoples Developed the Spectrum Management System for Developing Countries (SMS4DC), now in use in over 40 countries 6

7 Achievements since PP 2010 ITU worked to ensure the sustainable use of telecommunication/icts Worked to ensure energy-efficient telecommunications /ICTs, through a set of standardized methodologies to reduce environmental impact of ICTs Contributed to the resolution of recurring cases of harmful interference in UHF band (supporting broadcasting and mobile services) and Ku-band (enabling fixed-satellite service) Built confidence and security in the use of ICTs by developing a UN-wide framework on Cybersecurity and Cybercrime 7

16 Convened every four years, the PP shall (ref. CS/Art 8): Determine general policies for fulfilling the purposes of the Union; Consider reports of the Council; Establish the strategic plan for the Union and the basis for the budget of the Union, and determine related financial limits; Establish the total number of contributory units for period up to next PP; Provide general directives dealing with staffing; Examine the accounts of the Union; Elect MS to serve on Council, SG, DSG, Directors of Bureaux of Sectors, and members of the RRB; Consider and adopt modifications to the CS/CV/GR; Conclude or revise agreements with international organizations ; Adopt and amend the General Rules of Conference, assemblies and meetings of the Union; Deal with such other telecommunication questions as may be necessary. 16

23 Prepare your contributions to PP14 through the Conference Proposal Interface (CPI) Member States are invited to use the Conference Proposal Interface (CPI) to prepare their contributions for PP14 Circular Letter 181 du 10/02/2014 CPI available at 23

24 Deadlines for submitting contributions Proposals to amend CS and CV 20 February 2014 (Ref: CS 224, CV 519 and Res. 114 (Marrakesh, 2002)) Other proposals for the work of the conference 20 June 2014 (Ref: No. 40 of the General Rules) And to ensure translation of the document NO LATER THAN 7 October 2014 (Ref: Res. 165 (Guadalajara, 2010)) 24

25 Elections PP elects: Secretary-General; Deputy Secretary-General Directors of the 3 Bureaux 12 members of the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) 48 Members of the ITU Council All candidatures must reach the Secretary-General not later than 23h59 (Geneva Time) on Monday, 22 September 2014, (ref. No. 170 of the GR) For Elected positions and RRB, candidature should be sent with Name, CV and picture of candidates. 25

26 Credentials Credentials should fulfill one of the following criteria: Confer full power on the delegation; Authorize the delegation to represent its government without restrictions; Give the delegation, or certain members the right to sign the final Acts. Credentials should be signed by the Head of State, Head of Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Template is available at 26
