Membership: National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) in 34* nations in the Americas International Role: Regional Metrology Organization (RMO) for the Western Hemisphere

6 Advancing Metrology for Energy Efficient Measurements and Compliance in Central America and Dominican Republic Advancing Metrology for Sustainable Energy Technologies and Climate Science in the Western Hemisphere Past and Current Activities 1. Nov Workshop on Acoustics, Ultrasounds and Vibration for Wind Energy at Inmetro, Brazil 2. Dec Two week training on electrical metrology calibrations and operation of equipment in Panama for Honduras 3. Dec OAS, NIST and PTB agree to work together in the implementation of a technical analysis of SICA s Central American Technical Regulations (RTCA) and the Conformity Assessment Procedures (PECs) 4. March US/CLASP conducting analysis of RTCA & PECs for LED luminaires; PTB will conducting analysis of RCTA & PECs for refrigeration 5. Bilateral resistance comparison NIST/ICE-Costa Rica (on going) 6. Spanish translation of the Guide to U.S. Electrical and Electronic Products Requirements NISTR June Regional Workshop - Metrology Support for the Quality Assurance of Measurements of Air Quality Monitoring. 8. June CROSQ delegates and Caribbean NMIs will tour Intertek Testing facilities in Cortland, NY as part of a study tour on building and managing energy efficiency testing facilities

14 Conclusions SIM continues to establish legal status that is inclusive for all NMIs in the Western Hemisphere SIM continues to create formal and mutual beneficial links with partner organizations SIM is recognized in international metrology as a serious and rigorous player SIM is fostering projects to support its strategic and technical objectives SIM continues to build stronger links for capacity building and joint R&D projects
