9 Recent Activities in QA/SAC Date May 2009 Technical Cooperation Two experts from KMA visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. Oct 2009 Two experts from the Hong Kong Observatory visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. April 2010 May 2010 JMA expert on ozone layer observations visited the ozone observatory in Manila. He calibrated the Dobson spectrophotometer of the observatory and trained Philippine experts on measurements and maintenance of instruments for ozone layer observations. Three experts from KMA and one expert from KRISS visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. 9

11 Regional Dobson Calibration Centre (RDCC) for Asia JMA Aerological Observatory holds a regional standard instrument for Dobson spectrophotometer in Asia. The regional standard is calibrated through comparison with the WMO world standard owned by NOAA once every 3 years (lastest at Mauna Loa in 2010). JMA conducts regional intercomparisons in Asia (see table below). The Aerological Observatory developed the automated Dobson system in Technical guidance for automation of the Dobson system was given by JMA s expert at Seoul (2006), Boulder (2009), Mauna Loa, Buenos Aires and Melbourne (2010) with applying a proprietary software package WINDOBSON for operation, data analysis and quality assurance of the observations. 12 Future Prospect In association with the establishment of GFCS, JMA is further strengthening its effort to address earth environmental issues in cooperation with GAW and related programs. In this connection, Atmospheric Environmental Division/JMA maintains and enhances the GAW central facilities activities as well as its own GAW related observations and deliveries of the analysis and modeling products. WDCGG expected to be appointed as WIS DCPC in Cg XVI. Metadata from WDCGG will be delivered together with all other WMO data catalogues. This will facilitate the data exchange within all WMO programs. WDCGG, QA/SAC and WCC websites are planned to be moved into a cloud service in next February. We would not change our contents but URL expected to be changed. I will keep you informed on upcoming details. 12
