The agenda and workshop objectives are at Annexes 1 and 2 respectively. The workshop is conducted in the framework of the EDA-funded study Standardised Unmanned Ground Vehicle with Open Architecture (SUGV) and aims to consolidate at EU governments and industry experts level the Architecture approach for UGVs Standardisation, with the support of the study team. For that purpose, the invitation attaches the following material: 1. Two Questionnaires: Questionnaire 1 (please complete only if previously not provided for Workshop 1); Questionnaire 2 Metrics for Project and Technology Assessment 2. Project s Summary Information Paper 3. PowerPoint presentation (provided only as information, of what is to be discussed in the workshop). Participants are kindly requested to consider the information provided and complete the Questionnaire(s) provided and send them back to EDA by the deadline indicated below. Suitable attendees for this workshop are: (i) procurement and R&T government and industry experts with an appropriate knowledge in UGVs or general land vehicles architectures and EDA COM No: EDA European Defence Agency Rue des Drapiers B-1050 Brussels

2 vetronics, (ii) personnel in charge of maintenance centers for UGVs, and (iii) personnel with specialist knowledge on information security for UGVs or general land vehicles. After the workshop the SUGV progress meeting 1 (PM1) will be conducted to assess progress of the study. This session will be open only to EDA, Project Management Group (PMG) and the study team. 4 Annex 2 OBJECTIVES OF THE INDUSTRIAL WORKSHOP ON UGV SYSTEMS REQUIREMENTS Objectives This workshop aims at consolidating at EU government and industry experts level the Architecture approach for UGVs Standardisation, with the support of the study team. Study This workshop takes place in the framework of the EDA-funded study Standardised Unmanned Ground Vehicle with Open Architecture (SUGV). The study aims to define an electronic, information and power architecture framework for military Unmanned Ground Vehicles, which shall be published and proposed as Standards and Guidelines for UGVs that can ultimately be the basis for UGV standardization. It is understood that canvassing and bringing together the requirements of stakeholders within the European military environment is imperative to the successful execution and outcome of this project so that the proposed standards and guidelines, and the associated business justification would be endorsed not only by the European players but would prove attractive on a global scale. Open Architecture A common approach to UGV Systems and Equipment will provide a number of benefits, including improved operational effectiveness and reduced cost of ownership through: Reducing vendor lock-in by the use of open, non-proprietary interfaces allowing greater competition; Improved ability to re-role UGVs of different profiles and insert new technology as it becomes available, through the use of a scalable and modular architecture; Reducing operator training and facilitating the sharing of equipment during international common missions; Decreasing system engineering and integration, verification and validation costs and enabling greater systems innovation within the UGVs systems industry. It has to be noted that the proposed project will focus on the electronic, information and power architecture framework for military UGVs including the Control Interface for the UGV as an enabler, and will not investigate UGV control algorithms or UGV autonomy (but will take these into consideration for the enabling architecture). 5 Participants will be requested to provide input to the reference UGV architecture in terms of Data, Power and Control infrastructures; Participants will be requested to provide input to the business case, roadmap and standardization of UGVs; The consolidated workshop outputs will be analysed and reported accordingly.
