8 Early Days: August Timberland launches its Green Index, inspiring conversation around building an industry index. January Informal discussions about an industry-wide initiative begin. May 2007 First official meeting of the Eco Working Group (EWG). August 2007 Initial mission and vision for the EWG are finalized. October 2007 First EWG subgroups are formed. October 2007 Levi s joins the Eco Working Group as a voting member. 8
9 2008 January 2008 The EWG is comprised of 15 voting member companies. April 2008 EWG votes overwhelmingly to create an industry-facing index. May 2008 Subgroups are re-formed and continue their development work. June 2008 First EWG Executive Committee is formed to lead the larger, growing g EWG. July 2008 EWG Executive members address the European Outdoor Group (EOG). Executive members also attend the first meeting of the EOG Sustainability Working Group. August 2008 Zero Waste Alliance comes on-board as project facilitator. New Index framework (2.0) is presented. September 2008 Portland Development Commission (PDC) provides a generous grant to fuel the continued development of the index. September 2008 New Index framework is adopted. d Subgroups are structured t around the new framework. 9
10 May 2009 OIA establishes dedicated Corporate Responsibility resources to support the Eco Index work. June 2009 The OIA Board of Directors establishes the Sustainability Advisory Council. September Beta Phase 1 of the Eco Index scheduled for release in Summer January 2010 Partnership between OIA & EOG is formalized. All documents, framework and work products now completely shared between continents. Spring 2010 Subgroups work to finish the guidelines, indicators and metrics/methodology of the Eco Index framework. July/August The "Phase One Beta" Eco Index content is released to the outdoor industry at the OutDoor Show in Germany and the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Show in the U.S. September-December The Phase One Beta Pilot Program draws over 100 participants from throughout the outdoor industry and beyond. 10
11 2011 March The formation of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is announced. SAC announces plans to adopt the OIA Eco Index in conjunction with Nike s Materials Assessment Tool to create Indexes for Apparel and Footwear. April An Equipment subgroup forms within the EWG. May 2011 Chemicals Management Working Group holds its first meeting. August 2011 V1 Apparel Index content released by SAC and pilot program begins. Fall 2011 Corporate Responsibility Department established by OIA Board of Directors. November Group name shifts to OIA Sustainability Working Group to better reflect the work in both environmental and social responsibility. January ~200 member companies (53 voting members in 2011) and 400+ individuals are OIA SWG members. 11
