It is intended to help you plan and set up your Rational ClearQuest environment. By default, this directory is /opt/rational/clearcase on the UNIX system and Linux, and C:\Program Files\Rational\ClearCase on Windows. v cquest-home-dir represents the directory into which Rational ClearQuest has been installed. 23 Chapter 1. Planning the installation This chapter provides an overview to planning the installation of Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearQuest MultiSite. All users of the product should read this chapter before beginning the installation. For the most current information about features and known issues, see the IBM Rational ClearQuest and ClearQuest MultiSite Release Notes at the IBM Publications Center ( The release notes are also available from the Rational ClearQuest installation launchpad and at the end of the installation. After the program is installed, you can access the release notes from the Rational ClearQuest Online Help. Click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > IBM Rational ClearQuest > IBM Rational ClearQuest Help. Installation overview The order of the chapters reflects the approximate sequence of the installation process. System, database, and Web administrators perform the preliminary configuration work. These configuration tasks can include planning the installation and reviewing system requirements; configuring deployment and licensing; installing database software; performing an initial installation of the Rational ClearQuest components; configuring a Rational ClearQuest database; configuring a Rational ClearQuest Web server; and configuring LDAP user authentication. Administrators can then perform other tasks before users install the clients. These tasks include creating schema repositories and user databases, connecting to Rational ClearQuest databases, applying packages for integrations, and enabling notification. When this configuration work is complete, individual users can install the Rational ClearQuest client software and perform any postinstallation tasks. There are two situations in which the order of the installation differs from this process. If you are installing or upgrading Rational Suite or if you are upgrading from a previous installation of Rational products, you might need to perform tasks described in Part 4, Upgrading Rational ClearQuest, on page 105. Upgrading from a previous version If you are upgrading from a previous version of the product, review the upgrade information before you install the current version. If the product was installed as part of Rational Suite, all Rational products are uninstalled when you install the current version. Although some mixed versions of the Rational products are supported across an enterprise network, all Rational products on a single computer must be the same version. For example, you cannot run version of Rational ClearQuest with version 7.0 of Rational ClearCase. For upgrade information, see Part 4, Upgrading Rational ClearQuest, on page 105. 24 Setting up Rational Common Licensing Setting up Rational Common Licensing, which is powered by FLEXlm, is a key part of the installation process. You must complete the following licensing service tasks: v Obtain license keys by using AccountLink, a Web-based tool available from the IBM Rational Licensing and Download center. v Install and configure the IBM Rational License Server. v Configure client desktops to import keys to the Rational License Server. v Maintain and manage the IBM Rational License Server as a single, multiple, or redundant server configuration. Note: At the time of publication, AccountLink is the online license management tool for IBM Rational software customers. In the future, AccountLink will be replaced by the Rational License Key Center, an online system that offers additional features and an easier license key management experience. When the new system is available, you can access it at the same Web address that is currently used for AccountLink: support/licensing/. This page will provide the information and instructions to manage license keys in the Rational License Key Center. These tasks and different types of license keys are described in the IBM Rational License Management Guide. If you are installing Rational products for the first time, read this guide carefully before beginning installation. Select a deployment method The IBM Rational Setup wizard provides the following deployment options for your installation of IBM Rational products: v Installation from a CD v Installation from a Web download v Enterprise deployment from a release area on your network v Silent installation For a description of these options and instructions to set up these deployments, see Configuring deployment on page 49. Components of Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearQuest MultiSite This section helps you prepare and plan Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearQuest MultiSite installations. If you are new to the functionality offered in Rational ClearQuest, install an instance of Rational ClearQuest on a computer running Windows. Use this to learn more about the product. v Review the tutorials and information presented in the Rational ClearQuest Online Help. v Practice administration, schema design, and maintenance tasks before you deploy the product. The following sections describe the components for Rational ClearQuest in a configuration running on Windows, Linux, or the UNIX system. 4 IBM Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearQuest MultiSite: Installation and Upgrade Guide

25 Clients Users and administrators employ Rational ClearQuest clients to submit, modify and track change requests and to analyze project progress. The following clients are available: v The Rational ClearQuest for Windows client is native to Windows. It is the only client that allows users to create reports and charts. v The Rational ClearQuest Client is a stand-alone client based on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform technology. v The Rational ClearQuest Client for Eclipse is a plug-in based on Eclipse technology that can be installed into a supported Eclipse shell. v The Rational ClearQuest Web client is a Web browser-based client. v The Rational ClearQuest Client for Visual Studio.NET allows users to access Rational ClearQuest databases from a Microsoft Visual Studio.NET environment. These clients are available on Windows, Linux, and the UNIX system platforms, with the exception of the Rational ClearQuest for Windows client and the Rational ClearQuest Client for Visual Studio.NET, which are available only on Windows. For information about how to configure these clients, see Chapter 7, After installing Rational ClearQuest on Windows, on page 69 and Chapter 11, After installing Rational ClearQuest on Linux and the UNIX system, on page 101. For information about using these clients, see the Rational ClearQuest Online Help. Administration Tools Rational ClearQuest administrators use the Administrative Tools to manage schemas and databases, and to administer users and user groups. The following tools are available: v The Rational ClearQuest Maintenance Tool is used to create and manage schema repositories, user databases, and database connections. v The Rational ClearQuest Designer is used to create and modify schemas and user databases. v The Rational ClearQuest Export Tool is used to export data from a Rational ClearQuest user database to an external file. v The Rational ClearQuest Import Tool is used to import data from an external file to a Rational ClearQuest user database. v The Rational ClearQuest User Administration Tool is used to set up and administer users and user groups. v The Rational Reader is used to enable users to submit and modify change requests by from a supported server. The Administration Tools are available only on Windows, with the exception of the Rational ClearQuest Export Tool, which is available only through the Eclipse clients on Windows, Linux, and the UNIX system. MultiSite Administration Tools Rational ClearQuest administrators use the MultiSite Administration Tools to replicate schema repositories and user databases across multiple sites. To use Rational ClearQuest MultiSite, you must install the Rational ClearQuest MultiSite Administration Tools, the Rational Shipping Server, and the Rational ClearQuest Administration Tools. They can be installed on a single computer or on separate ones, according to the following options: Chapter 1. Planning the installation 5

26 v The Rational ClearQuest MultiSite Administration Tools, the Rational ClearQuest Administration Tools, and the Rational Shipping Server can be installed on one computer, and the vendor database server installed on a second computer. v The Rational ClearQuest MultiSite Administration Tools, the Rational ClearQuest Administration Tools, and the Rational Shipping Server can all be installed on the same computer as the vendor database server. However, do this only if your database server has enough memory and processing power to handle the extra work. The Rational ClearQuest Administration Tools and the Rational ClearQuest MultiSite Administration Tools can be installed on the same server as the vendor database or on a separate computer. Rational Shipping Server Rational ClearQuest MultiSite can use the Rational Shipping Server to transfer MultiSite packets between sites. The Rational Shipping Server should be installed only on those computers that replicate data to other sites. The Rational ClearQuest MultiSite Administration Tools and the Rational Shipping Server run on Windows, the UNIX system, and Linux. Avoid configuring any one host to run the Rational Shipping Server for both Rational ClearQuest MultiSite and Rational ClearCase MultiSite. Uninstalling either product from such a host removes the shipping server that is used by both products and renders the remaining product inoperable. If you must install both Rational ClearQuest MultiSite and Rational ClearCase MultiSite with the Rational Shipping Server on the same host, ensure that you do the following: v Install Rational ClearCase first v Uninstall both products if you ever uninstall either of them Note: Administrators must verify that site configuration files for typical host systems do not specify installation of the Rational Shipping Server. Any attempt to install Rational ClearQuest MultiSite on a host where Rational ClearQuest MultiSite and the Rational Shipping Server is already installed fails. For more information on using the Rational Shipping Server, see IBM Rational ClearQuest MultiSite Administrator s Guide. Rational ClearQuest Web The Rational ClearQuest Web allows users who do not have Rational ClearQuest Client software on their desktops to access user databases and records through a browser. Rational ClearQuest Web includes two components: v The Rational ClearQuest Server v The Rational ClearQuest Web Application The Rational ClearQuest Server provides core services to execute transactions. The Rational ClearQuest Web Application also installs the Rational Web Platform (RWP), which provides server-side support for Web interfaces to various IBM products, including Rational ClearCase Web, Rational ProjectConsole Web and Rational RequisitePro Web. 6 IBM Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearQuest MultiSite: Installation and Upgrade Guide

27 Crystal If you have installed another Rational product with a Web application such as Rational RequisitePro Web, RWP is already installed. The Rational Setup Wizard does not install another instance of RWP, but instead installs the Rational ClearQuest Web Application into the existing RWP instance. You can install the Rational ClearQuest Server and the Rational ClearQuest Web Application on the same or different computers. If possible, install RWP on a server that does not have to run any other Web servers. Installing RWP on a server that is already running another Web server might result in a port conflict that can cause RWP or the other Web server to fail when it starts. If RWP must be installed on the same computer as another Web server, configure the other Web server to use ports that RWP does not use. You can configure your Rational ClearQuest Web environment in several ways to maximize load balancing and performance. For more information, see Load balancing the application servers on page 37 and "Administering Rational ClearQuest Web" in the Rational ClearQuest Online Help. For information about customizing RWP, see Appendix C, Configuring the Rational Web Platform, on page 201. Supported platforms for IBM Rational Web Platform Verify that your installation complies with all Rational Web Platform (RWP) hardware and software requirements, in addition to the specific requirements for your Rational product. All supported platforms for Rational ClearQuest platforms are also supported for RWP. The host must have adequate disk space available for the Web views that are created by Rational ClearQuest Web client users. For optimal performance, provide at least 0.5 to 1 MB of space per view. For information about system requirements, see System and software requirements on page 13. For information about supported platforms, see Supported vendor databases and server platforms on page 17. Note: IBM Rational Web Platform is not supported in Windows 2000 Professional SP4. Reports Any reference to Crystal Reports in the Rational ClearQuest product documentation applies only to copies of Crystal software that you have rightfully licensed. Support for clients Crystal Reports from Business Objects is used with Rational ClearQuest to author, run, and view and reports. To author reports, you must acquire a copy of Crystal Reports Professional Edition or another Crystal Reports edition that contains Crystal Designer version XI. This application can be acquired from Business Objects at The software needed to run and view reports is included with Rational ClearQuest. The installation of this software varies for each Rational ClearQuest client. Chapter 1. Planning the installation 7

28 For users with the Rational ClearQuest for Windows client, runtime files of Crystal Reports version X1 are installed on the Windows computer. Users can use this software to run and view reports. Authoring reports is only supported on the Rational ClearQuest for Windows client. Support for Rational ClearQuest Web To use reporting capabilities with Rational ClearQuest Web, you must install the Crystal Reports Server XI from Business Objects. Crystal Reports Server XI is a server based product and must be installed separately from Rational ClearQuest Web. Users of the Rational ClearQuest Web client do not need any software installed on their computers. However, a copy of Crystal Reports Server XI must be installed on the Rational ClearQuest Server or on a separate server. This server-based software manages the running and viewing of reports on behalf of the Rational ClearQuest Web clients. You can obtain Crystal Reports Server as a separate CD in the Rational ClearQuest media kit, or you can download the software from The copy of Crystal Reports Server XI that Rational ClearQuest includes is an embedded reporting server for generating, viewing, and interacting with Crystal Reports over the Web. This special version, Crystal Reports Server XI Edition for Rational ClearQuest is designed to perform adequately under moderate user loads but is limited in its performance capabilities. As your user loads or report complexity increases, you might experience slower response times. The Business Objects product line provides an upgrade path to unlock more performance as required. Larger installations may prefer a full version of Crystal Enterprise, which will support both larger and more complex deployments. For more information, go to default.asp. Note: You must have Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.0 or version 1.1 on the machine where you are installing the Crystal Reports Server XI. If you do not have.net Framework, you can download version 1.0 or 1.1 from You can also enable reporting for Rational ClearQuest Web clients, that run on Linux and UNIX systems. For information about configuring reporting on these systems, see the "Administering Rational ClearQuest Web" from the Rational ClearQuest Online Help. Rational License Server The Rational License Server is used to store and manage Rational ClearQuest licenses. For more information, see Configuring Rational Common Licensing on page 47. The vendor database server The vendor database that supports the Rational ClearQuest schema repository and user databases can be installed on a Windows, Linux, or the UNIX system. 29 For best performance, install the vendor database and Rational ClearQuest Web on different computers. You are not required to install Rational ClearQuest software on the vendor database server. You should also install and configure the vendor database software before you install the Rational ClearQuest software. Rational ClearQuest Test Manager The following provides information about Rational ClearQuest Test Manager. Getting started with Rational ClearQuest Test Manager Rational ClearQuest Test Manager is a feature that manages the components of a testing environment: v Test plans v Test cases v Test requirements v Test configurations v Test scripts v Test results Test plans identify test cases, which represent the ways in which users are likely to use the product. Test scripts are written to ensure that the requirements for the test cases are met. The results returned when the test scripts run are evaluated to determine project status, in particular, the progress toward completing the work represented by the next milestone in the project. The hierarchical relationship between these files, documents, and data is represented by records in a Rational ClearQuest database. The records in the database are organized in a test planning hierarchy. Rational ClearQuest Test Manager supports three phases of testing: v Planning v v The asset registry record is created first: test plan, test case, and configured test case records are then created to support the planning hierarchy. Authoring Test scripts are created and associated with test case and configured test case records. Execution Configured test case or test suite records are executed and then test results are reviewed; If useful, the results are committed to the Rational ClearQuest database to create test log and suite log records.
