5 Chapter 1. Cron task parameters for software knowledge base imports Tivoli Asset Management for IT includes a cron task, SWCATALOGIMPORT, defined for software knowledge base catalog imports. It also includes a predefined cron task instance that specifies parameters required for importing the software catalog data. The following table describes the parameters in the SWKBT cron task instance defined for importing software catalog data from the Software Knowledge Base Toolkit. Table 1. Cron task instance parameters for Software Knowledge Base Toolkit Name Value Comment HOSTNAME localhost Hostname or IP address of the Software Knowledge Base Toolkit server. In some environments, a fully-qualified hostname is required in order to resolve the URL (for example, bedford.usma.ibm.com' or '). This is a required value. It is not case sensitive. PARTIALRUN 7 This parameter functions as a bitmap. Specify 7 to run the entire process. Enter the sum of the following numbers to restrict processing to the steps required: v 1 http file import v 2 XSL transformations in temp directory v 4 Loading files through enterprise services For example, you want to skip the file import, specify 6, the sum of 2 and 4. Only steps 2 and 4 will be run. PORT Specifies the port number for the server on which you are running the Software Knowledge Base Toolkit. This is a required numeric value. REPOSITORY fe8119f7532c44b af95e7bc83 The default value specifies the database instance identifier of the Software Knowledge Base Toolkit catalog shipped by IBM. If you have your own instance of Software Knowledge Base Toolkit, replace this value in the cron task with your database instance identifier. This value is compared to the repository identifier obtained from the software catalog source to ensure that data is being imported from the correct repository. If you do not want to perform this check, you can leave the field blank. TEMPDIR C:\\temp\\ Specifies the working directory for processing software catalog data. The operating system user running the application server must have read and write permissions for this directory. Back slashes in Windows paths must be escaped (for example, C:\\temp\\) or replaced with forward slashes. Include trailing slashes. Relative paths will be resolved in the context of the current directory for the application server. On UNIX machines, the path must be configured appropriately, for example, //data//swkbt//. 1

The integration framework receives the file and saves it in a zipped file using the name that you specify with a.zip extension appended to it. Configuring the cron task for software knowledge base imports Before you import the software catalog from the software knowledge base, in the Cron Task application in Tivoli Asset Management for IT, specify the parameters for connecting to the Tivoli Software Knowledge Base Toolkit server and the schedule for importing the data. Before you begin In this task, you are requested provide a value for your repository ID. The default for this value is the database identifier of the Software Knowledge Base Toolkit instance shipped by IBM. Your value might be different. To determine the database instance identifier for your repository, complete the following steps: 1. Sign in to Software Knowledge Base Toolkit. 2. From the navigation bar, select Knowledge Base Information. 3. In the Knowledge Base Information window, obtain the value in the Database instance identifier field. Save this value for use in the following task. About this task Complete the following steps to configure the cron task instance for importing software catalog data from the software knowledge base. Procedure 1. On the navigation bar, click Go To System Configuration Platform Configuration Cron Task Setup. 2. On the List tab in the Cron Task Setup application, select SWCATALOGIMPORT, the cron task for software catalog imports. 3. In the Cron Tasks Instances table, on the Cron Task tab, expand the row for the SWKBT cron task instance. 4. In the Schedule field, click Set Schedule and specify a schedule for importing software catalog data from the Software Knowledge Base Toolkit. 5. On the Parameters subtab, expand the row for the HOSTNAME parameter. 6. In the Value field, type the host name or IP address of the server for the Software Knowledge Base Toolkit. 7. On the Parameters subtab, expand the row for the PARTIALRUN parameter. 8. In the Value field, type 7 for software knowledge base imports. 9. On the Parameters subtab, expand the row for the PORT parameter. 10. In the Value field, type the port number for the server on which you are running the Software Knowledge Base Toolkit. 11. On the Parameters subtab, expand the row for the REPOSITORYID parameter. 12. In the Value field, select one of the following options: 3
