1 Application Server IMPORTANT NOTES RE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: This is one of a set of documents needed to implement the Oracle upgrade needed for Banner 4.x5.x. Before beginning your installation, you MUST read Infrastructure Upgrade Plan for HP Operating System Environments, which includes critical information about specifications, known issues, and bugs. This document is current as of February 8, Warnings, changes, and tips from the workshops are being placed in the Addenda from the Installation Workshops as they take place. 3 Configuring the Oracle Application Server (OAS) Accessing the OAS To access the Oracle Application Server (OAS), go to your web browser and type in the host name of the machine on which OAS is installed, followed by a colon and the port number that was used for the admin node manager during the installation. Once you enter the hostname and port, you are prompted for user name and password. The user name is admin, and the password is the one you selected during the install. The OAS Welcome screen appears. The Welcome screen is the main menu for the OAS. You'll use the following three menu items for the configuration. Use the OAS Manager for configuration. Use the OAS Utilities to install the PL/SQL toolkit. The Online Documents define all components that you use in the configuration. Getting Started Navigating in OAS The OAS Manager uses familiar navigation tools. When you open the Manager, the screen displays two frames. The left-hand frame is a directory that you use to navigate by opening and closing folders. Click the plus sign to expand a folder and the minus sign to close a folder. 4 Highlight the name of a folder or document to display the contents in the right-hand frame and to activate the toolbar. Use the Go to OAS Home button to return to the main menu. Adding Components Use the buttons on the tool bar at the top of the right-hand frame to manipulate components. Select the plus sign to add components throughout the configuration. Using Online Help Oracle Online Help is available on every page. Select the blue question mark that appears on the tool bar or the screen to obtain OAS documentation. Sample Values Values used in the examples are the values that OIIT used to configure OAS using the recommended Oracle directory structure with Banner. For detailed information on Oracle's recommendations, see the OAS Online Documentation, Configuring Websites, Administration Guide. 5 Adding a Database Access Descriptor (DAD) 1. In the left-hand frame, expand Oracle Application Server. 2. Highlight DB Access Descriptor (DAD) to display the DAD window. 3. Click on the green plus sign on the toolbar to display the DAD: Add window. 4. Fill in the required information as follows: DAD Name: NGCD814_DAD Database User: dad_user Database User Password: ******* Confirm Password: ******* Database Location (Hostname): odysseus.rath.peachnet.edu Note: Be sure to use a fully qualified domain name. 6 Connect String: ngcd814.eas.regents.usg_ons Check Create database user if necessary. Note: We recommend that you store the username and password in the DAD. 5. 7 6. A "success" dialog box briefly appears before you return to your Database Access Descriptor frame. Your new DAD should be in the list. Adding an HTTP Listener 1. Highlight HTTP Listeners as shown and select the green plus sign from the tool bar to display the Add Listener screen. 2. In the Add Listener window, check that the correct node is displayed and select apply. 3. When you click apply, another "Add" window appears. Complete all fields by entering your institutional values for the Listener Name and Port Number. The default values for the Root Directory, User ID, and Group ID should appear. 8 Listener Name: NGCD814 Note: The application will add the host machine name automatically. Port Number: 3232 Note: Select the port number from your range, but it must always be greater than Host Name: odysseus.rath.peachnet.edu Note: Use a fully qualified domain name. Root Directory: /u01/app/sct/ngcd814/webprocs/ Notes: The default root directory is the ORACLE recommended directory structure; however, you must change the default to your Banner directory structure to your document root for Banner web directory. Be sure to use a trailing slash. User ID: oracle Group ID: dba 4. Submit. I:\Shared Documents\banner4doc\revisedtechtestplandrafts\configOASrev2lv.doc Page 6

9 5. A success screen briefly appears, then minimizes to the status bar until you select OK. When you highlight HTTP Listeners, the name of your listener should appear in the list. Configuring the Listener Accept defaults for configuring the Network, User/Group, Language, MIME, Encoding, SSL CA Roots, and Security. Configure settings for Server and Directory. Server 1. Highlight Server to display the Server Configuration screen. 2. Initial File default (wwwindex.html) should be changed to homepage.htm or name of your institutuion's customized html front page for Banner. 3. Accept defaults for other settings. 10 Directory 1. Highlight Directory to obtain the File System Directory/Virtual Directory screen. The File System Directory lists the actual directory paths in your system and should be displayed. 2. The Virtual Directory data appears by default. You need to make the following File- System data entries to map these Virtual Directory entries to physical directory entries at your document root for Banner web directory. Note: Make sure to include a trailing slash. 3. Accept the default for the other entries and apply. I:\Shared Documents\banner4doc\revisedtechtestplandrafts\configOASrev2lv.doc Page 8

11 Adding an Application 1. Highlight Applications and select the green plus sign on the toolbar to add an application. The first Add Application screen appears. 2. Change Application Type to PL/SQL and make sure Configure Mode is set to Manually. Then apply. 3. 12 Adding a Cartridge 1. When prompted by the Success! screen after you add the application, select Add Cartridge to this Application. 2. This will take you directly to the Add PLSQL Cartridge dialogue. 3. Enter data in all required fields as shown on the Add PL/SQL Cartridge screen and apply. The Virtual Path is <SID>/owa where <SID> is the name of the database to be accessed. The Physical Path is your document root for Banner web directory. 13 Configuring an Application 1. Select Logging from the directory structure in the left-hand frame. 2. Select ON, which is the default, from the drop-down menu and enter your logging directory and file. 3. Enter the name of your local directory where you store web log files. 4. OIIT recommends severity level 7 and has tested at that level. Select help for an explanation of the different severity levels. Installing the PL/SQL Tool Kit 1. To create the PL/SQL Tool Kit, click the OAS Go to Home button and choose OAS Utilities from the Main Menu. 2. Then expand Utilities/Install/PLSQL Toolkit and highlight. 3. Delete Oracle Sid name and leave that field blank. 4. Enter your Sql*Net connect string (e.g., PPRD.bbc.usg.ga.US) and SYS password. 5. When you apply, you'll see a pop-up window showing the progress of the Tool Kit Installation. This window may minimize and position itself on your Windows status bar. 14 Accessing the Banner Web Site To access your Banner web site, use your web browser and type in the host name followed by a colon and the port number you assign to your listener.
