15 Adoption of Active/Active in S/4HANA Starting with SAP S/4HANA 1610 FPS 1 and SAP HANA 2.0 revision 1 Performance optimization for Analytical apps As of SAP HANA 2, there is an option in SAP HANA System Replication to free up CPU resources by using a secondary SAP HANA node. SAP HANA allows an app to read data not only from the primary SAP HANA node, but also from a secondary SAP HANA node For analytical apps that only require read access, reading from the secondary SAP HANA node is a good alternative Works automatically, as long as active/active enabled in HANA Ignored by HANA if active/active not enabled Select Fiori applications being enabled for active/active see list in SAP Note (entries may be subject to change) Optionally enable own smart business apps see SAP product help Cross Components Analytics Smart Business Modeler Apps Create tile 16

22 No immediate impact on the integration of SAP S/4HANA and SAP BW/4HANA SAP BW/4HANA is not a prerequisite solution for SAP S/4HANA SAP S/4HANA integrates in the same way with SAP BW/4HANA as it already does with SAP BW powered by SAP HANA to complement each other cover all analytic use cases on one data source provide a comprehensive reporting platform New innovations taking place in SAP BW/4HANA are compatible with existing setups (customers can migrate to where necessary) focus on Big Data and enhanced data management (Multi-temperature handling, HEC, AWS or Azure, etc.) primarily strengthen the EDW character of SAP BW/4HANA With SAP BW/4HANA being SAP s strategic platform for EDW, it s new functionality will enhance the integration with SAP S/4HANA in a long term (e.g. CDS extraction, aligned content objects and models) 23

28 Considerations for SAP HANA 2 Operating System (OS) requirements see SAP Note Minimum required OS versions: SLES 12 SP1 (Intel and Power) RHEL 7.2 (Intel only) Hardware requirements Intel based restrictions SAP Note IBM: only Power 8 supported SAP Note , Power 7 uses Big Endian so Big Little Endian migration activity needs to be performed to update to Power 8 (see SAP Note ) Summary of the procedure to upgrade from SAP HANA 1 to SAP HANA 2 in SAP Note Operations Recommendation: customers planning new deployments of SAP S/4HANA on the IBM Power Platform may want to choose SAP HANA 2 from the beginning, to avoid data migration activities. Multitenant database containers are mandatory with HANA 2.0 SPS 01, if the database is a single container a migration process is performed. See SAP Note for details 29
