1 AL-DALI-DMX-Wiz Atx Led Consultants Inc 815-A Brazos #326 Austin Tx, Lighting Control Cloud Interface for Apps, Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT DALI, DMX and 0-10v outputs Product Description - AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ This device interconnects the Cloud ( via App, Alexa, IFTTT, or Google Home etc) to and from a DALI bus, to a DMX512 bus and/or to a 0-10v fixture. Using the Wiz Connected Home App you can enable the cloud to control lighting. The Cloud app is linked to Amazon Alexa, or Google Home or any other cloud service. The AL-DALI-DMX-Wiz connects to your home WiFi network on the 2.4 ghz band. Cloud to DALI mode: The AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ device will send DALI commands to individual addresses, Groups, Scenes or Broadcast to all from Cloud actions. Groups and Scenes allow multiple DALI drivers to be controlled in sync from one Cloud command. Cloud to DMX mode: Addresses in a DMX512 universe can be set by this device to On/Off/Dim. If the DALI bus has no power the device operates in a simple DMX mode, or it can be configured by the DALI bus for more complex DMX functions. DALI to DMX mode: The addresses in a DALI system can be converted to DMX for use with DMX devices. We monitor the state of the DALI bus and reflect that in the DMX universe Cloud to 0-10v mode: A 0-10v output allows high power LEDs in commercial and residential settings to be cloud controlled. If the DALI bus has no power the device operates in a simple 0-10v mode. Overview The user connects our device to his WiFi Network. Please see the instructions for connecting to the WiFi at He installs the Wiz application, which then gives the user control of the state of DALI and/or DMX and/or 0-10v. The device is connected to a DALI bus, a DMX bus or a 0-10v LED driver or fixture. All three can be used at the same time. After the wifi connection is established, the next step is to use the Wiz App to test the function. After that, use Alexa or Google to discover the device and connect it with voice control. Addressing 8 DIP switches on the side control the addressing method for the DALI and DMX outputs. This sets the mode see details setup info below. AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ page 1

2 Color Modes Interpreting Cloud Dimming levels for LED operation The Cloud is sending to the interface, 5 different colors. Warm White, Cool White, Red, Green and Blue. In order to drive a single LED color output ( DALI and 0-10v modes ) we create a 6 th color called Total White this is mathematically equal to : Warm White + Cool White ( limit of 254 as 100 % ) or the brighter of R G or B if any are non zero. Therefore the 6 th color is the combination of the 2 White colors, or the greater of any of the RGB colors. All 6 colors can be used in the different configurations detailed here. Connections Power for the AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ module Apply power to the Module either using the 2.1mm DC connector or the pins on the green connector marked +DC and Ground. The device uses 24 to 56 volts and 1 watt max. Alexa WiFi Connection Install the Wiz Connected Light app on your smartphone. Follow the instructions to connect the AL-DALI-DMX- WIZ device to your Alexa or Google account. For DALI bus applications Connect a pair of DA pins to your DALI bus. You will need a DALI power supply for the bus. If DALI is not being used you can leave this open. Simple DALI operation is set by the dip switches; use the DALI-100 USB configuration tool for complex DALI systems if needed. The DALI bus must have a current limited ( typically 200 ma 16 volt ) supply for normal operation. Use DALI for normal home and office lighting. Set the DIP switches to Broadcast mode to start. Apply a DALI power supply. Once broadcast is operating, you can move on to Groups, Scenes and individual addresses. Single address DMX bus applications Connect the DMX RJ11 connector to your DMX universe. Pinout is shown below. Until configured by a DALI-100 device, the DMX mode and address is defined by DIP switches. Use DMX for one or many Color Light projectors. If no DALI power is found then the DIP switches are used to define the DMX address to operate. If DALI power is provided the DIP switches are ignored. Multiple address DMX bus applications DALI to DMX bridge Connect the DMX RJ11 connector to your DMX universe. Pinout is shown below, DMX operations are defined by the DIP address default settings until changed by a. DALI-100 USB adapter or similar. Up to 63 AL-DALI switches can be combined into a DMX universe, with multiple dimming and 3-way controls are enabled. For 0-10v applications Connect the 0-10v output to your LED driver. 0-1 volts is off, 1 volt to 10 volts is dimming on. In default mode the 0-10v output tracks the virtual color Total White. 6 DALI operation Modes The AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ can operate stand alone no other controller or master is required. For DALI operation - connect your powered DALI bus to the DA+ and DA- pins ( polarity is not significant ). Our implementation allows multiple masters we use collision detection to avoid conflicts on the bus. We offer a low cost DALI power supply. Broadcast is a simple way to start using DALI no configuration is required since all fixtures will respond. Set the DIP switch to Broadcast mode to start this setup. To use Groups, Scenes and Single addresses, your LED drivers will need a DALI configuration tool one example is our DALI-100 device for this function. If no DALI voltage is detected this mode is not enabled. In this case, only 0-10v and DMX outputs will function. There are 2 modes of operation of the AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ a) Simple transmitter DALI commands will be transmitted. In this mode the cloud interface generates internal values for each color. These are then output as DALI dim and on/off levels. By default Total White ( see above ) is the value used for single color drivers. Examples of DALI control from Voice are shown here Individual, Group, Scene and Broadcast modes are supported and selected by the DIP switches. b) Fully configurable in this mode the DALI interface also supports building a DMX512 universe from the DALI bus transactions. This occurs in background without affecting other DALI commands. See the DALI-DMX section of this manual for use of this DALI to DMX feature. The DALI commands allow the colors of the Wiz App to be mapped to 6 sequential DALI addresses. Each of those 6 addresses can be mapped to any of16 groups. Each address can be enabled or disabled or changed. This allows either tunable white or RGB to be driven by this device. DALI type 8 ( tuneable white) fixtures are possible. For example the Wiz app White color is converted by default to Total White and could be assigned to Group 4 - allowing then up to 60 DALI LED drivers to be set to On/Off/Dim from this device. 7 Simple DALI transmitter operation This mode is active if a voltage is detected on the DALI bus and the switches are set as below. Group Address Set the DALI group address in 1-4, LSB is switch 1, therefore DALI group 3 has switch 1 and 2 ON Scene Address Set the DALI scene address in 1-4, LSB is switch 1, therefore DALI scene 3 has switch 1 and 2 ON Broadcast Brightness level will be broadcast to all DALI fixtures, including those with no short addresses assigned. Other colors are ignored. Color Addressing in DALI simple transmitter modes In the Wiz app, each Wiz device has 5 channels. These are Warm White, Cool White, Red, Green, and Blue. Warm White and Cool White values are added together to make the value sent. In addition should the R, G or B channels be non-zero the greater of that value will be used. Therefore we have 6 colors Total White, Warm White, Cool White, Red, Green, Blue. AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ page 7

8 Configurable Master/Slave DALI Operation Setting to enable configuration by DALI controller This mode allows the AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ short addresses and all other settings to be set via a DALI configuration device for example the USB DALI-100. In this mode the device will default to 2 DALI short addresses these can be changed by a DALI configuration tool. Using these 2 addresses we will re-use the Min Level, Max Level and Power on Dim features to assign the address mapping of the device. After setting the switch as shown above use the DALI-100 or similar tool to modify the address mapping The device has an internal Cloud interface receiver the commands from the cloud ( App, Alexa, Google, IFTTT) are mapped to DALI addresses as shown on the next page. The device also listens to DALI bus commands and if used in a DMX environment, ARC settings to those DALI addresses from external devices are mapped to DMX addresses for output to DMX controls. 9 Cloud to DALI / DMX mapping Address 24 By default the device will operate as follows. It will listen to DALI bus commands and build and transmit a DMX512 universe. Set the range of these addresses using Internal configuration page ( default short address 24). We have re-purposed some of the DALI functions for our DMX application. These addresses for color must be sequential. These DALI group addresses have 2 functions. A) They transmit DALI Group or Broadcast packets to the DALI bus B) They populate the DMX512 universe at 1 to 256 DMX addresses. See the DMX section. A DALI broadcasted Reset command will not change the Short Address assigned. A short address can be removed completely but doing so will reset the device to defaults. AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ page 9

10 DALI receiver to DMX mapping Address 25 By default the DMX mapping is managed by the short address 25. Using this Internal management address, the mapping of DALI short address to a range of DMX addresses is possible. First set the short DALI starting address then the number of bus listeners. The addresses will be sequential. A Broadcast Reset command will not change the Short Address assigned. A short address can be removed completely this will reset the device to defaults. Setting the Power On Dim at address 25 to non-zero enables the DMX mappings. The final step is to define a mapping of the DALI group address to DMX512 addresses. The default settings are: DALI short DATA Address Default DALI Group mapped DMX address DMX range 48 Not assigned Not assigned 10 thru This means that any DALI packet sent to short address 48, or a broadcast packet will update the information at that DMX512 address 9. If address 48 is assigned to a group then a group packet to that group will change the DMX512 content as well. This means that any DALI packet sent to short address 49, or a broadcast packet will update the information at that DMX512 address If address 49 is assigned to a group then a group packet to that group will change the DMX512 content as well. These DALI short addresses allow the AL-DALI-DMX to listen to individual, group, scene or broadcast addresses. Any DALI Bus instructions to these addresses will cause the DMX packet to reflect those changes. AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ page 10

11 Internal DALI to DMX receivers address Up to 60 internal DALI addresses can be enabled, each has a set of management options. These 62 addresses are in two groups, Internal receivers and External transceivers. You should interpret these internal addresses as DALI devices that are listening to broadcast ( default ) a single address ( if configured with no group ) or a group number ( 0-15). The light level received will be used to populate the device DMX512 bus. 12 Internal Cloud to DALI to DMX transceivers DALI address There are 6 internal DALI transceivers. Each of these 6 internal DALI addresses has a set of management options. These represent the 6 colors as described on page 9. You can assign these colors to a DALI address and DALI group. You can configure these using the DALI short address assigned. Therefore, a Cloud command for Warm White will create a value for both Warm White and Total White. If address 27 (Total White) is enabled, without a group assignment - then the AL-DALI-DMX-Wiz device will transmit a DALI broadcast light level command to all DALI addresses. If DALI address 27 has been assigned to a group then instead of broadcast only a DALI packet for that group would be transmitted. The other 5 colors ( warm white, cool white, red, green, blue ) are managed via DALI addresses 28 thru 32 in the same way. In addition to the DALI packets being sent DMX512 address are set by these cloud commands. The DMX address and block size is configured at address for the 6 colors. The Power On Dim value if set to zero disables that DALI address. If set to 1 or great, disables it, if set to 2 or greater that level is the power on level. If a Group assignment is made then the Internal DALI receivers at their address will also be set, as they will also respond to broadcast either internally generated or from the DALI bus AL-DALI-DMX-WIZ page 12

Multimaster operation adds proprietary header and checksum bits to the standard DMX packet so addresses 1-7 and 510/511 are not available for lights.
