3 1. Brief Introduction R6011 RFID Reader is one of our new developed RFID Readers for UHF Electronic Tags. It supports ISO B and EPC Class1 Gen2 protocol to read and write the relative tags. 5 2. Installation & Connection The reader must be installed and connected correctly before operating. 2.1 Installation The reader can be simply installed. Please adjust the fixture to a suitable angle according to your application. The polarization direction of the antenna will dicide the direction of the tags. The default polarization of R6011 reader is normally Horizontal, which means that tags should be put in the horizontal direction to get detected well. Please tell us before order if a vertical polarization is really required. The maxmium distance between the reader and host varys from communication types. The reliable communication distance is 10m for RS-232, 5m for USB, 15m for Wiegand, 100m for LAN, and 1.0km for RS-485. Exceeding the above distances is not suggested 2.2 Power Supply The power input of this reader is 12V DC. An AC to DC adaptor is offered. Plug the adaptor into DC Outlet of reader before operating. 6 3. Communication The reader has kinds of communication ports. It can communicate with PC or controller that has standard RS-232,RS-485 or Wiegand port. 3.1 Connect to PC The reader can be connected to PC by RS-232 or LAN. RS-232 The reader has a DB9 RS-232 port which is usually connected to PC for communication.

The reader has a RJ45 LAN port which is usually connected to PC or HUB for communication. Directly connect LAN outlet of reader to the LAN port of PC with twist interaction cable.

7 3.1 Connect to PC The reader can be connected to PC by RS-232 or LAN. RS-232 The reader has a DB9 RS-232 port which is usually connected to PC for communication. Directly connect RS-232 of reader to the COM port of PC with DB9 Female cable. The inner connecting relationship is illustrated below: LAN Note: LAN Connector is only for R6011-L model. The reader has a RJ45 LAN port which is usually connected to PC or HUB for communication. Directly connect LAN outlet of reader to the LAN port of PC with twist interaction cable. The inner connecting relationship of this cable is illustrated below: 3.2 Connect to Controller The reader can be connected to controller by RS-485 or WIEGAND. RS-485 The reader has a RS-485 connector, which is usually used for connection between reader and controller. It can be intergrated to RS-485 network or connected to PC through a converter. RS-485 should be a twist masked cable, with 1000m of reliable communication distance. RS-485 cable consists of two difference signal wires: RS-485A+(A+) and RS-485B-(B-). Web Site: info@ast-hk.com 6

Wiegand The reader has a Wiegand connector, which is usually used for connection between reader and controller. Wiegand should be a twist masked cable, within 10m of reliable communication distance.

8 Wiegand The reader has a Wiegand connector, which is usually used for connection between reader and controller. Wiegand should be a twist masked cable, within 10m of reliable communication distance. Wiegand cable consists of three signal wires: Data0(D0), Data1(D1) and Ground(GND). Please make sure the good connection to the ground. 3.3 Connect to Trigger & GPIO The reader can response outer trigger. It can realize input/output by GPIO, too. Trigger In Trigger connection, you should touch IN to GND by outer trigger. For example, you may add a relay to realize a trigger from ground sensor or key-pressing. The suggested connecting method is illustrated below: GPIO Note: By default we do not give GPIO, user may ask us to customize them if needed. In GPIO connection, you should connect GPO(Output) and GPI(Input) to the outer equipment. The GPO could be connected to outer equipment(eg. Relay) to drive the barrier or light. Working Mode The reader can identify working modes automatically and make corresponding response. 4.1 Passive Mode If users control reader by host machine(pc or controller), which we call Passive Mode, the reader receives the command from host, executes detecting tags, and responses the data to the host. Before receiving the command from host, the reader will stay idle. For users who use PC to control the reader, we can provide SDK software. This kit package includes API functions set and Demo sample program. For users who use controller to control the reader, we provide serial port communication protocol for development. 4.2 Trigger Mode If users want to input a trigger signal(eg. ground sensor signal) to control reader, which we call Trigger Mode, user may touch IN to GND once, the reader will detect tags and response the data to the host. We provide a config tool to set parameters such as timer period, delay time, etc. 4.3 Initiative Mode If users want reader to detect tags automatically for long time, which we call Initiative Mode, user may connect IN to GND(not touch only).
