1 Parent Handbook: Campus Portal Account Activation Table of Contents Introduction... 1 FOR PARENTS... 1 Parent receives an with a link... 2 Campus Security Features... 5 If You Forget Your Password or Username... 5 Introduction This guide provides information on how parents and students can use the Campus Portal to view Family/Household information, Attendance, Grades (official report card), Assessment scores, Academic Plans, Course Requests, and Emergency Contact information. Please note: Not all sections are available to view. Periodically, sections will be enabled or disabled for a period of time throughout the school year. FOR PARENTS Each guardian who has an recorded in Campus may have a Campus Portal account. Fauquier County Public Schools staff, who already access Campus for work, will not be given a separate account. - Each guardian will be given an account. The account owner must set up the account, including security like and dislikes. Do not use another person's account, or you risk losing Portal privileges. - To best protect your child s information, do not save your password on the device and do not allow the browser to remember the password. You must enter a username and a strong password. The password bar needs to be green (strong). You will then see a successful account creation page. Next you will be prompted to log into the Portal. If you have problems, click on the Help button for login help. (Please ignore Campus Portal Activation Key links as they do not apply to FCPS) 2

4 You are now logged into your portal account. Selecting User Account, Account Settings allows you to change your password or account security . This account security applies to portal account messages ONLY. To change the used by schools for communication you must go to the Family Members section or, at the beginning of the school year, use the Online Registration process. 4

5 Campus Security Features Parents/guardians can see only information related to the students they are authorized to view through the use of a secure connection, strong passwords and session timeouts. The Campus Portal enables the Division to force strong password usage by all users, including parents/guardians. This requires a password that is case sensitive and at least eight characters long. The password must also contain at least three of the following: a capital letter, lower case letter, number or symbol. Students have already been assigned username and passwords. If they forget their password, they will be forced to use the strong password requirement. Five unsuccessful login attempts will disable the Campus Portal account. To use Campus Portal again, parents will need to contact their child s school. The Campus Portal also monitors the activity in each session. As part of security settings, an Access Log is included. By default, the system will time-out any user after a period of time and requires the user to log in again.
