2 Introduction Great that you have found your way to Gulden. To make sure nothing goes wrong with your purchase and the use of Gulden, this instruction manual will provide you with the ins and outs of the Gulden desktop wallet. 1. Downloading the wallet To be able to use the software go to the website https://gulden.com and click on the green download button. A new page will open and you can choose from a number of options.

Please note the disclaimer in the red frame. It is of great importance that you realise that you (as owner) are responsible for the management of your Guldens. Choose the download option that s suitable for your device. In this tutorial we assume a Windows 32 bits version, but other versions as Mac and Linux are pretty similar to download.

4 2. Installing the new wallet After downloading the software you can start the installation by double clicking the installation file. This is followed by the normal steps that you go though for installing software. After the installation is complete the wallet will open with a nearly blank screen with two blue buttons. Here you select New wallet. Restore wallet is for restoring of the Gulden wallet after a calamity (see chapter 10). A new screen will show up. The most important screen What you will see now is the most important part of the Gulden wallet: the recovery phrase. The recovery phrase consists of 12 words. With this phrase it will always be possible to retrieve your balance on your wallet. So even if your computer crashes, your house burns down, or your computer gets stolen, with these 12 words you always will be able to access your Guldens. It s of high importance that you store this sentence somewhere safe. If someone else gets hold of this sentence they can easily steal your Guldens. Literally write the sentence down on a piece of paper and save it in a vault (or something similar). Make a second copy and keep it somewhere very safe.

We advise not to take a print screen and save it on your computer. If your computer crashes you lose everything. Also, don t email it to yourself. Emails can be easily hacked.

Then tick the box I have written it down and click on the blue button Start new wallet. It s possible that you will get a safety warning from the Windows firewall. You cant select allow access. After this the actual wallet will open. Based on the picture below we will look into a number of aspects. The left part of the screen will give an overview of all your accounts (it is possible to manage more than one account in your wallet). We will address adding an account in chapter 5 of this tutorial. The right part of the screen shows the details of the selected account. Now we will focus on the bottom of the screen. Here you can see if the wallet is synchronised with the Gulden blockchain (for further explanation on the blockchain see the text box below). You actually get a copy of the Gulden blockchain on your computer. The first time this will be a time consuming process which can take more than a few hours. After that, every time you start up the wallet it will take a little while to synchronise, but this should just be a few seconds, up to a minute. Amongst others it s dependent on your internet connection

speed and the number of peers that you are connected to. You can view the synchronisation process at the lower part of your screen. In the middle you will see a progress line.

Chapter 3 and 4 are about updating an existing wallet. Blockchain Technology (simple explanation) All Transactions that are completed with Guldens are kept in an electronic ledger (the blockchain).all users with a Gulden wallet are connected through their wallet software to the Gulden network, and are the peers in the so called peer to peer network. They process the transactions and use cryptography to facilitate the necessary security. All connected computers to this network have a copy of the ledger on their hard drive, which makes it almost impossible to commit fraud with the data in the ledger. The data in the majority of the ledgers is leading. This makes the ledger trustable, and removes the necessity of an independent 3rd party (banks) when doing transactions. This way Guldens can only be spent by the owner, and he can only do this once. The blockchain technology makes is virtually impossible for a government (or any other), to manipulate the value of the Gulden, or to induce a higher (or lower) inflation than agreed upon up front.

Update using an older existing wallet An existing wallet (version 1.5.5) on your desktop can off course also be updated to version You do not need to do anything specific with your existing wallet. The new version replaces the older version during the installation process. The content of the old wallet is maintained. After the software is downloaded you can start the installation process by double clicking the installation file. Now the normal steps for installation follow that apply to all new software downloads. After the installation is complete, the wallet will open and your Gulden of your old wallet will appear. After a short synchronization, the wallet is ready for use, and looks like this. We see two accounts on the left side of the screen. My account This is the so called HD account. It does not (yet) hold Guldens Legacy account This is in fact the old wallet with all your Gulden (in this case 10). We will revisit the Legacy account in chapter 4. The first thing that needs to be done is save the recovery phrase (backup phrase).

Click on the cog to the right of My accounts and choose Backup on the right side. At the bottom right you will find a blue button displaying Show backup phrase, click on it.

With this new wallet it is no longer necessary to make backups. With the recovery phrase you will always be able to retrieve your wallet up to and including your last transactions.

9 4. Removing a legacy account In chapter 3 we came across the Legacy account that shows as the old version of the wallet software which we updated to the 1.6.0/1 version. The legacy account holds all the Guldens of the old wallet. The best thing to do is update the legacy account to your new HD My account. This is not compulsory but highly recommended because the legacy account does not have the back up protection of the restore sentence. Previously you constantly needed to copy the file Wallet.dat to a safe storage environment to back up the legacy account. To stay consistent it s desirable to transport the legacy account to the HD My account. This is simply carried out by making a payment from the one account to the other. See detailed information about managing your account in chapter 5 Carry out the following steps: Select My account. In the tab Receive we click on the link Copy address to clipboard Select Legacy account. Choose Send tab and paste the address of the clipboard in the field of the pay address. Fill in the maximum Gulden amount minus 0,1 NLG (the 0,1 NLG is needed for the fee). Click the button Send. Click on Send. Your Legacy account is now empty and your Gulden should be in My account. After this you can delete the Legacy account. How to delete the account is explained in chapter 5. Note: After the Legacy account has been deleted and Guldens are transferred to an old address related to the Legacy account, the Legacy account is automatically restored. The Guldens can then be booked across to the HD My account and the Legacy account can be deleted again.

5. Working with accounts It s possible to create multiple accounts in the desktop wallet. For instance: Household, Savings and Hobby. This is an easy process to carry out in the wallet.

10 5. Working with accounts It s possible to create multiple accounts in the desktop wallet. For instance: Household, Savings and Hobby. This is an easy process to carry out in the wallet. Click +Add account Fill the entry field with the account name (Household) Click on the blue button Done This process can be repeated for Savings and Hobby and then the left part of the screen will look as displayed here. All these accounts have their own Gulden addresses and Gulden can be transferred between these separate accounts. In the top left of the screen you will see the total amount of Guldens that this wallet holds in the various accounts. At the top right you will see what the amount is in the specific account. In this case 2.01 Gulden is held in the savings account. When accounts become surplus to requirement they can be easily removed. Select the account that needs to be removed and click on the cog at the top right next to the account name. At the middle bottom of the screen in red you will see Delete account By clicking here the account will be deleted but the old addresses that are related to the account remain in tact. If money is deposited on any of these accounts the account will re appear stating Restored next to it. See to the side. Changing an account name is also easy. Select the account name and click on the cog at the top right. Type the new name in the entry field and click on the blue button Done.

11 6.Receiving Guldens To receive Guldens you need to first decide in which account you want to receive them. In the section on the left hand side select your preferred account. O n the right side of the wallet you choose the tab Receive. Here you see the receive address specifically for this account. In the example I want to receive Guldens in the account Hobby. Your receive address is shown in two ways. In a string of letters and numbers and as a QR code. It is not advisable to pass on the letters and numbers code to someone by phone or dictating it. It is very easy to make a mistake. It is therefore advisable to use the QR code or to copy the letters and numbers code to the clipboard and send it to the paying party. For this purpose you can use the blue Copy address to clipboard button at the bottom. Click on it and the shown address will be on your clipboard. Now you can paste this address in an or something similar. If the payer uses his/her mobile wallet the payment c an also take place by scanning the QR code. A special way is by way of making a request payment. Click on Request payment and a screen will pop up with two input fields, here you can fill in the amount and if you like a comment. After this click on the blue button Request payment. A following screen will pop up with a QR code showing the receiving address and the amount. This can be scanned by the payer. This QR code can also be sent to someone as a picture using the clipboard and copy and paste. When you receive Guldens in that account a new receive address in created. This adds a layer of privacy as all your Guldens are not traceable to just one receive account. Used receive addresses can however be used again.

7. Making payments 7.1. Paying with Gulden To make a payment you need to first decide from which account you will pay. From the left hand side of the wallet select the appropriate account.

We will assume that you will make a payment using the Savings account and we will pay 15 Gulden to for a good cause (almost all my savings :) ). We fill in 15 Gulden and immediately see that it is worth around 81 Euro cents. Next we need to fill in the address of serious.nlg. I have arranged that by copying and pasting from their website. You can add a description if you want to. The description is for your purpose only and only will only work if you click ADD TO ADDRESS BOOK. The description will then become the name under which this address is saved in your address book. The description cannot be used to pass on a message to the receiver. Unfortunately that s not possible (yet) when using the blockchain. When everything is filled in correctly you can click the blue Send button and you will get a confirmation page where you will see an overview of the payment. Here you can still cancel the payment. If you click the blue button Send again the payment will be made.

13 The payment will be displayed in your transaction statement as is shown above. At the start there will be a white circle in front of the transaction and the amount is displayed between brackets. This means the transaction has been carried out but has not yet been verified. When the next block of Guldens becomes available (average of 24 blocks per hour, the transaction will be included in the blockchain. This is the first confirmation and the brackets will now disappear as is shown above. Next the circle will step by step turn black. After 6 new blocks your transaction is completely verified and a tick will appear in front of the transaction. When you click on a transaction on the left, an overview will appear with detailed information about the transaction. When you click on a transaction on the right hand side, a number of options will appear. You will be able to copy the transaction ID and look up the transaction in the blockchain via Paying with Gulden to Bitcoin or Euro It is very simple to pay with Guldens where Bitcoins or Euro s are requested. So in a webshop that accepts Bitcoin you will also be able to pay with Gulden. This is being made possible through the service provider Nocks B.V.. You actually pay the amount of Guldens to Nocks B.V. and Nocks B.V. sends the requested amount of Bitcoins or Euro s to the selling party. In order to realise this you click on the Bitcoin symbol to the right of the transaction amount field, in the Send tab. After this you can fill in the amount of Bitcoins. A calculation is made how many Guldens it will approximately cost. This is an indication as the real amount you have to pay will be determined when the actual payment takes place. After filling in the amount, the Bitcoin address needs to be filled in and as an option a description can be filled in. After that you click on the blue button Send. The payment of your Guldens to Nocks is carried out immediately and the Bitcoins are sent to the receiver immediately by Nocks.

14 Next to bitcoins, the payment of Euro s can also take place with a Gulden wallet. You click on the Euro symbol and you fill in the amount of Euro s.a calculation is made how many Guldens it will approximately cost. This is an estimate, as the real amount you will pay is determined when the transaction really occurs. Next you fill in the IBAN number of the receiver and optionally a description. Then you click on the blue button Send. The payment of your Guldens to Nocks is carried out immediately as is the payment of Euro s to the bank. After that Nocks nor Gulden have any say as when the funds will be received through the bank system. Normally it is within 24 hours but occasionally it can take up to 48 hours. Also take into account that banks don t work in the weekend. A payment made on Friday will only show up on Monday. Note. The IBAN payment can not be any larger than EUR 500, per transaction. The number of payments is not limited. The limit is being determined by the house bank of Nocks B.V.. It is Nocks B.V. s wish to have this limit increased as soon as possible. Be aware of the following if you want to send all your Guldens from an account. When you fill in the total amount of Guldens as shown in the top right and click on Send nothing will happen. This is because a small fee is needed to process the transfer. Reduce the amount with 0,1 NLG (when a lot of transactions have been done in this account 0,1 NLG could not be enough, so increase the amount) and then the transaction will take place.

15 8. Buying Guldens When using the desktop wallet it s possible to buy Guldens directly. In every account in the Receive tab at the bottom right you will see a blue button Buy Gulden. By clicking this, the following screen will show up. You can choose your amount, your payment method and your bank. Answer the question if you have purchased more than XX euro this week. When you click No you are allowed to click the button Buy. If you click Yes you will not be able to purchase and if you have purchased more but click No your purchase will still be processed but Nocks will not send you any Guldens. The Euro s will be refunded in 3 working days. Note The maximum of 50 Euro is a limit determined by the house bank of Nocks B.V.. If you want to purchase more you will need to open an account with Nocks B.V.. Be aware that after the account has be set up there is an cooling down period. 2 hours after the account has been verified you will be able to purchase Guldens.

9. Linking with your mobile wallet One of the nicest features of the 1.6.1 version is that you can link your mobile wallet with your desktop wallet.

16 9. Linking with your mobile wallet One of the nicest features of the version is that you can link your mobile wallet with your desktop wallet. This is only possible with the latest version of the app software. Android version or higher and the IOS version XXXX or higher (This will be available soon). The objective of the link between the desktop and mobile is that an extra account shows up on your desktop with an account name that you can specify. Behind the account name you will see an icon of a mobile. To create such an account follow the steps of creating a normal account as described in chapter 5. We click on +Add account For instance fill in Android as account name Click on the link Connect to mobile Gulden app (next to the blue button Done ) Read the warning in blue, act on it, and then click Take your mobile and start the app Open the menu at the top clicking on the three blue dots Choose Link with desktop Scan with your mobile phone the QR code of your desktop Now the linking process starts. Don t be alarmed when you see your account balance suddenly disappear. This is normal, it will soon reappear. After a synchronization session the balance of your mobile wallet will be visible on your phone and on the desktop. Transactions that you now carry out with your mobile wallet will show up on your desktop and visa versa. After the mobile wallet is linked to your desktop the recovery sentence of the mobile wallet no longer applies. The mobile wallet can then be restored using the recovery phrase of the desktop.

17 10. Restoring a wallet using the recovery phrase If your wallet software breaks down, your hard disk malfunctions or you want to transfer your wallet to another computer, don t panic. As long as you have your recovery phrase your Guldens are safe and will alway be retrievable. You can download the software again and carry out a fresh installation. But at the question New wallet / Restore wallet you choose Restore wallet. After that you need to type in your recovery phrase. Do this as accurate as possible. So don t use capitals and apply the correct spaces. After you have typed in the recovery phrase the wallet will start synchronising and after a while your old wallet and content will reappear. If you recover your wallet with the recovery phrase and in addition to My account you have other accounts, then these will reappear separately, only the names of the account have disappeared, you will see Restored 1, Restored 2, etc. You will have to think back what these names were or just adjust them. Also all transaction notes will have disappeared after a recovery session. The transaction themselves are described but the notes are lost.

18 11. Password protect the wallet To avoid, that if someone by chance has been able to get access to your computer, him/her sending your Guldens it is advised to password protect your wallet. A password can be installed as follows: Click on the wheel to the right of My accounts (left side of page) and then on the righthand choose Password. Fill in your password and click on the blue button Save. This password applies to all accounts in your wallet and in future with every transaction you will be asked to enter this password. The only option to recover access if you forget your password, is to re install the wallet using your recovery phrase.
