1 U.S. and Canada Weekly Projections Weekend #13 March 24 March 26, /23/2017 Chi ing Away a Bit We run up against the previous March record holder Batman Vs. Superman this coming weekend. Yes while we are up so very much this week the 166 million posted by BVS will push us in the other direction this week. After that we should sail on high seas. Life is likely to score something in the low teens. Chips will chip away at double digits maybe. Power Rangers will be the big opener bowing in the low 30 millions. With Beauty and the Beast destined to take maybe as much as a 50% fall, that will mean this week will lag. Box Office gears up for the shift into Summer after that. Be ready for Fate of the Furious, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to give us a turbo boost into the traditional Memorial Day holiday. The world is on the very foe being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. Director: Dean Israelite Cast: Becky G, Bryan Cranston Analysis: Interest is pretty good, reviews are not. Doubtful that reviews matter that much here. Trending more toward the under 35 crowd which makes sense since the Power Rangers series debuted in '93. Also slightly more male than female. Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes: 49% metacritic reviews: 45% 94% of 27,620 Life Distributor: Sony/ Columbia 3 Day Weekend BOR: Total: R, 116 Synopsis: The sixmember crew of the International Space Station is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected. Director: Daniel Espinosa Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson Analysis: Interesting split among critics. Top critics are panning, the rest seem fairly okay with it. Buyers who once were terrified watching Alien were moved to mild boredom watching this reported Alien clone. Expect that as more reviews arrive from the top tier pundits that the score will go down.
