Telling My Story 010 Often by telling our story we can make sense of what has happened, giving us an opportunity to accept and to express and celebrate who we are. Building on your strengths and increasing confidence, the course will equip you to tell your own recovery story. You will be encouraged to produce your recovery story in a medium of your choice for the final session. 2 Spirituality and Wellbeing 014 This course is an opportunity to develop our individual perspective on what gives us meaning and purpose in our life. This course provides an opportunity to explore spirituality in a context of recovery and wellbeing. Through exploring different types of spirituality, we can enhance the recovery journey and our own sense of wellbeing. The course covers our sense of meaning, purpose (spirituality) and its connection to life, mindfulness and creativity. There are times when we might try to tackle these thoughts, but this can leave us feeling unhappy or perhaps anxious. Mindfulness gives you the chance to see things differently. Becoming mindful allows you the space to really be in the present moment. This workshop also provides you with the opportunity to think about mindfulness as a wellness tool in your recovery journey. 3 An Introduction to Medication 043 This course provides an opportunity to discuss beliefs and ideas of how medicines work and to explore the practical barriers which can impact on taking medicine effectively. Also included in this course will be advice on where to find accurate and up to date information on medication PBR 043 Wed 15 Mar 1pm pm Peterborough RCE Thinking about Coming Off or Changing Your Medication 044 This course will give students the opportunity to consider the advantages and disadvantages of stopping/changing medication as well as looking at the reasons behind any choices made. Students will also have the opportunity to find out more about some of the side effects and challenges people may experience when they either change or stop taking medication. Learn how to find out about participating in research trials and how to get involved in the research process. 4 Interview Panel Training Refresher Course 062R This course is for students who have already completed the 1 day interview panel training course. It is a short one-off workshop designed to refresh your skills and knowledge. For example: how health and illness are understood and treated in the UK compared with other parts of the world. PBR 064 Fri 17 Feb 10am pm Peterborough RCE How To Facilitate Your Own Group 077 This half day workshop will focus on skills needed to effectively facilitate a group whether in a work setting or if you are thinking about setting up your own peer support group. Topics include: Facilitation styles, what happens when facilitation goes wrong, understanding group dynamics and developing a facilitation tool kit. 5 Decluttering For A Calmer Home 081 Areas in your home filled with clutter? Rooms that don't function as they should? Drawers overflowing with random objects? Paperwork in piles? Don't know where to start? Come along to our workshop to gather and share ideas on hoarding issues and decluttering tips. We will then have a one-off follow-up session for students to share their progress to date. PBR 085 Wed 01 Mar 2pm pm Peterborough RCE A Special Scar Surviving Bereavement Through Suicide 089 This workshop will consider the impact of bereavement through suicide for family members and those close to the person. The grief of a suicide takes a different form than other types of death. What happens to those of us left behind? When our society often views suicide with fear and disapproval it can be difficult for us to come to terms with our loss and seek help and support. 6 Becoming More Confident 094 In this course we will look at where we are currently in terms of our confidence and think about what supports us to feel more confident. We will explore some ideas about becoming more assertive and think about the self-talk we practice and the impact this has on our confidence. This is a practical session too and there will be plenty of time and support to create a wellness tool in class. We aim for it to be a fun workshop, and we hope you will discover you are more creative than you think. In this course we will look at the different factors which make up stigma. We will consider both external and self-stigma as well as finding out about our rights in this area and some different ways we can challenge any stigma we experience or see. We will consider what makes us think we can not do certain things and then very practically challenge our beliefs by making icings, designing and decorating cakes and biscuits to admire, show off, give as gifts, eat and enjoy! CAM 107 Thu 23 Feb 10am - 12noon Cambridge RCE PBR 107 Wed 01 Mar 10am - 12noon Peterborough RCE So you think you can t sing? 109 Whether you re confident with singing or you would describe yourself as not being able to sing at all this workshop offers the chance for you to consider in depth the personal, emotional and cultural significance of singing. Whether used for self-expression, stressrelief or pleasure, explore the significance of singing in your life. There is no obligation to sing but you may discover your voice is more powerful than you think! PBR 109 Fri 10 Feb 10.30am - 1pm Peterborough RCE So you think you can t make a dreamcatcher? 110 This workshop is a chance to get creative and learn about the meaning behind dreamcatchers, with a chance to have a go at making your own dreamcatcher. No experience needed! PBR 110 Tue 07 Mar 10am - 1pm Peterborough RCE So you think you can t make a safety pin bracelet? 111 This will be a fun workshop where you will make your own safety pin bracelet. You will learn simple jewellery making techniques including how to use flat nose pliers, and how to tie a knot in elastic cord. 8 So you think you can t write poetry? 112 Ever heard the expression I m a poem and I didn t know it? well this workshop aims to unleash your inner poet by providing you with a hands on introduction to poetry. We will explore poetry from various angles, beginning with what poetry is and how we can use this in a positive way whilst taking in many fun and interesting exercises to get you writing your own poetry along the way. There will be opportunities for writing together and sharing your writing with fellow students. PBR 112 Fri 03 Feb 10.30am - 1pm Peterborough RCE So you think you can t draw faces? 113 This will be a fun 'taster' workshop where you will learn some basic, easy techniques that will enable you to start drawing realistic faces. There will be a variety of 'interesting' faces for you to choose from but if you have a particular face that you would like to draw then please bring a good, reasonable size printout with you on the day. Cartridge paper, pencils & pastels will be supplied but please feel free to bring along your own materials if you prefer. (The best pencils to use are those softer than HB, preferably B2 to B6.) CAM 113 Mon 27 Feb 2pm - 4pm Cambridge RCE So you think you can t design & make a tote bag? 114 This will be a fun workshop where you will learn some basic techniques that will enable you to create your own design for a tote bag and then progress to creating your tote bag using a sewing machine. There will be a selection of' fabrics & accessories for you to work with on day one but you may decide to bring your own fabric &/or accessories to use on day two if you prefer. No previous experience of design or the use of a sewing machine required! 9 Rhythm Of Life 121 This three week course explores how we all experience music, rhythm and sound in a totally unique way. There will be an opportunity to share and discuss a whole range of sounds from the environment as well as our own musical preferences. The course will also look at how we can use music, rhythm and sound as a wellness tool. We are hoping to transform it into a beautiful, tranquil space for everyone to enjoy. We would love this to become a project for our students to become involved in everything from designing, planning, clearing, planting & upcycling. We will also use this time to reflect on why gardening is so good for our wellbeing. (Make sure you dress for the weather!!) CAM 127/1 Mon 20 Feb 10am pm Cambridge RCE CAM 127/2 Mon 06 Mar 10am pm Cambridge RCE Magazine Co-production 129 Recovery College East are excited to offer our students the opportunity to be a part of a new project to create a magazine that is written for and by people with lived experience of mental health challenges and long-term physical health challenges. This workshop will look to gather your ideas around what you want to see from the magazine and comment on every aspect of its conception. We are very keen for our students to bring their skills and insight not only to this session but to the project as a whole so if you are interested in being a part of the project going forward then we strongly recommend you attend this session. 10 Carers Trust Drop-in Session 142 Looking after someone? We can help. Family carers are encouraged to come along to this open access drop-in session to find out about the support available to them. (with Carers Trust Cambridgeshire and Carers Trust Peterborough) PBR 142 Tue 14 Mar 11am - 1pm Peterborough RCE Journeying Through Life 145 Journeying through life: looking back, the here and now, and looking forward. In this workshop we will explore a range of factors that have shaped our own mental health journeys. These will include biological, social and psychological factors. We will then visualise our own journeys by creating a personal collage to represent the different phases of our journeys through life. (Run in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University) CAM 145 Wed 01 Mar 1pm pm Cambridge RCE Assertiveness 146 We will explore how to say things in such a way that we are more likely to be heard. We will look at the qualities of being self-assured and confident without being aggressive to get our voice heard. This course will help you develop this learnable skill which is an effective form of communication. 11 Self-Coaching for Wellness 147 This course is run by the Recovery Coach Team and will give participants an opportunity to explore what the self-coaching model is and how this could be used to sustain motivation and grow confidence whilst setting and achieving goals. We will consider how this can support your recovery and share ideas, tools and resources about how to take control over your personal journey. 12 PEER EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMME (PEP) A new PEP training course will be offered in Peterborough in the summer term for people with lived experience of mental health challenges who want to support others and aim to gain employment as peer workers. Students who want to apply will need to register for, and attend, the following events this term: PEP Essential Information Session PEPE Our mental health trust has led the way in training and employing Peer Workers (people with lived experience of mental health challenges). During this session we will provide all the necessary information about the application process and what to expect on the course. You only need to attend EITHER the morning session OR the afternoon session. 14 CITY COLLEGE PETERBOROUGH PATHWAY ONE PATH1 Week 1: Moving Forward In week one we will explore the things we need to begin to move forward in our lives. We will share ideas about different ways of overcoming potential barriers, stepping beyond our current comfort zones, maximising our influence on situations and think about the self-talk we practice and the impact this has on our confidence. Week 2: Developing Our Own Mindful Practice In week two we will introduce the concept of mindfulness and its use as a wellness tool. There will be opportunities to try various mindfulness techniques such as guided meditation, mindful drawing, mindful eating and developing positive self-statements. Week 3: Creativity through Writing This is a fun and interactive session around short fiction and poetry writing. The course will provide insight and hands on practise with basic elements of fiction writing such as developing characterisation, creating a settings and events. There will be opportunities for writing together and sharing your writing with fellow students. Week 4: Creativity through Collage This final session is a fun workshop where we will share ideas about the creative ways we already support our wellness and explore a new one. This is a practical session and there will be plenty of time and support to create your own collage.
