Introduction This section summarizes the contents of this document, which is one of a set of documents describing SPECTRUM applications. This section also provides references to the other applications documents. This section covers the following topics: Purpose and Scope Other Applications Documents Summary of This Document (Page 6) Purpose and Scope Use this document as a guide to SPECTRUM management module SM-DCSCMN, DOCSIS Applications. DOCSIS applications are common to devices such as Cable Modem Termination Stations and routers that are DOCSIS 1.0/1.1 compliant. (For information about models of DOCSIS compliant CM and CMTS devices in SPECTRUM, see the SPECTRUM management module SM-DCS1000 DOCSIS Devices document.) In all cases, the views and fields described in this document are accessed from the Icon Subviews menu of the application models displayed in the Main Applications view. Other Applications Documents Table 1 lists the documents that cover the other categories of SPECTRUM applications. In addition to the documents listed in the table, the document MIBs and the Application View provides an introduction to the Application view and defines MIB functions in network management. All of these documents (and others) are available on the Aprisma Web site at: Table 1: Document Title Transmission Applications Bridging Applications MIB-II Applications Technology Applications Routing Applications Other Applications Documents Typical Applications Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI PPP Bridging SNMP, ICMP, TCP APPN, ATM, DHCP OSPF, VRRP, BGP4 Applications & Gateways Page 5 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Cable Device Base Attributes View DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select Base Attributes. This view provides basic administrative and status information about CM and CMTS devices. The view contains the following fields. Role A read-only field that defines the current role of the device. The value Cm identifies a CM, Cmts Active a CMTS that is controlling a system of CMs, and Cmts Backup a CMTS that is connected but not currently used. In general, if the device is a CM, its role will not change during operation or between reboots. If the device is a CMTS, it may change between Cmts Active and Cmts Backup during normal operation. Note: The current DOCSIS standards do not support a backup CMTS; therefore, the value Cmts Backup is included for completeness only. Date Time The date and time, with optional time zone information. Reset Now Setting this button to true causes the device to reset. The default value is false. Serial Number The manufacturer s serial number for the device. STPControl Controls operation of the spanning tree protocol (as distinguished from transparent bridging). The value stenabled enables the spanning tree protocol, subject to bridging constraints. If set to nostfilterbpdu, spanning tree is not active and bridge PDUs received are discarded. If set to nostpassbpdu, spanning tree is not active and bridge PDUs are transparently forwarded. (A device need not implement all of these options, but the option nostfilterbpdu is required.) Applications & Gateways Page 10 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Event Reporting View DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select Event Reporting. Use this view to control reporting of trap and syslog transmission events. An event causing both a trap and a syslog message is treated as a single event. This view contains the following fields and the Event Control Table (Page 12), as well as button access to the Event Table (Page 13). Event Reporting Setting this button to Reset Log empties the event log and deletes all data. Setting the field to Use Default Reporting returns all event priorities to their factory-default settings. Syslog Server IP Lets you set the IP address of the Syslog server. A value of inhibits syslog transmission. Throttle Admin Status Lets you control the transmission of traps and syslog messages with respect to the trap pacing threshold. The value Unconstrained (default at startup) causes traps and syslog messages to be transmitted without regard to the threshold settings. Maintain Below Threshold causes trap transmission and syslog messages to be suppressed if the number of traps would otherwise exceed the threshold. Stop At Threshold causes trap transmission to cease at the threshold and not resume until directed to do so. Inhibited causes all trap transmission and syslog messages to be suppressed. Throttle Inhibited A read-only value of true or false. A value of true means that trap and syslog transmission is currently inhibited due to thresholds and/or the current setting of Throttle Admin Status. Also, this field is set to true if transmission is inhibited due to no syslog or trap destinations having been set. Throttle Threshold The number of trap/syslog events per Event Throttle Interval to be transmitted before throttling. This value is 0 at startup. Throttle Interval Lets you establish the number of seconds that the trap threshold applies. The value is 1 at startup. Applications & Gateways Page 11 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Event Control Table This table lets you control reporting on the various classes of events. The table contains the following fields. Priority Identifies the event class from most critical to least critical according to the priorities listed in Table 3. Table 3: Priority Key Reporting A read-write field that defines the action to be taken when this event class occurs. The possible values are local, traps, and syslog. (Some implementations may not support all options for all event classes but, at a minimum, must allow traps and syslogging to be disabled.) The value local means log to the internal log; traps means generate a trap; and syslog means send a syslog message (assuming the syslog address is set). 1 Emergency 2 Alert 3 Critical 4 Error 5 Warning 6 Notice 7 Information 8 Debug Applications & Gateways Page 12 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Event Table DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select Event Table. This table lets you view a log of network and device events that may be of interest in fault isolation and troubleshooting. Events which are multiple, sequential, and identical are represented by incrementing the Counts field and setting Last Time to the current time rather than by creating multiple rows. Entries are created with the first occurrence of an event. Event Reporting in the Event Reporting View on Page 11 can be used to clear the table, but individual events can not be deleted. This table contains the following read-only fields. Index A number that provides relative ordering of the items in the event log. The value increases except in any of the following conditions: when the log is reset via Event Reporting in the Event Reporting View on Page 11; when the device reboots and does not implement non-volatile storage for this log; or when the value reaches the value The next entry for all of the above cases is 1. First Time A value giving the time that the entry was created. Last Time If multiple events are reported via the same entry, the value is the time that the last event for this entry occurred; otherwise, this field has the same value as First Time. Count The number of the consecutive event instances reported by the entry, starting at 1 with the creation of the row and incrementing by 1 for each subsequent duplicate event. Priority The priority level of the event as defined by the vendor. The possible levels are emergency, alert, critical, error, warning, notice, information, and debug. These are ordered from the most serious (emergency) to the least serious (debug). Type ID Identification of the type of event reported by the entry. Description A textual description of the event, including all relevant context (interface numbers, etc.). Applications & Gateways Page 13 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Filter IP Table DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select Filter Tables > IP Table. Note: A red box around the IP Filter Default button indicates that the device may not support this table. This table provides an ordered list of filters or classifiers to apply to IP traffic. Filter application is ordered by the filter index, rather than by a best match algorithm. (Note that this implies that the filter table may have gaps in the index values.) IP packets that match no filters will have policy 0 applied to them in the Filter Policy Table, if the policy exists. (See Filter Policy Table on Page 19.) Otherwise, packets that match no filters will be discarded or forwarded depending on the setting of IP Filter Default. Any IP packet can theoretically match multiple rows in this table. When considering a packet, the table is scanned in row index order (e.g., filter 10 is checked before filter 20). If the packet matches that filter (which means that it matches all criteria for that row), actions appropriate to the Control and Policy Id fields are taken. If the packet was discarded, processing is complete. If Continue is set to True, the filter comparison continues with the next row in the table (looking for additional matches). If the packet matches no filter in the table, the packet is accepted or dropped for further processing based on the setting of IP Filter Default. If the packet is accepted, the actions specified by policy group 0 (e.g., the rows in the Filter Policy Table that have a value of 0 for Policy Id) are taken if that policy group exists. This table is consulted twice during the processing of any IP packet; once upon its acceptance from the L2 entity and once upon its transmission to the L2 entity. For CMs, IP packet filtering is generally the only IP processing done for transit traffic. This means that inbound and outbound filtering can generally be done at the same time with one pass through the filter table. This table contains the following fields. Except for the Index and Matches fields, all fields are readcreate. IP Filter Default If this button is set to Discard, packets not matching an IP filter will be discarded. If set to Accept, packets not matching an IP filter will be accepted for further processing (e.g., bridging). The default value at system startup is Accept. Applications & Gateways Page 14 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Create New Table Entry Opens the Filter IP Table Entry view which lets you create a new table entry. Note: You can create a new table entry only if the device supports this table. To create an entry, fill in the red boxed attributes with the appropriate values then save all changes. Index Index used to order the application of filters. The filter with the lowest index is always applied first. Row Status Controls and reflects the status of rows in this table. Specifying only this field (with the appropriate index) on a CM is sufficient to create a filter row that matches all inbound packets on the Ethernet interface, and results in the packets being discarded. The field If Index (at least) must be specified on a CMTS to create a row. Creation of the rows may be done via createandwait or createandgo, but the filter is not applied until this field is set to (or changes to) Active. There is no restriction in changing any item in a row while this field is set to Active. Control Used to control filter list scanning and packet processing. If set to Discard, packets matching this filter will be discarded, and scanning of the remainder of the filter list will be aborted. If set to Accept, packets matching this filter will be accepted for further processing (e.g., bridging). If the Continue field is set to True, scanning for other matches will continue; otherwise, scanning will end. If set to Policy, the policy entries matched by Filter Policy Id in the Filter Policy Table will be executed. If the Continue field is set to True, scanning for other matches will continue; otherwise, scanning will end. IF Index The entry interface to which this filter applies. The value corresponds to ifindex for either a CATV MAC or another network interface. If the value is zero, the filter applies to all interfaces. The default value in Cable Modems is the index of the customer-side (e.g. ethernet) interface. In Cable Modem Termination Systems, this value MUST be specified to create a row in this table. Direction Determines whether the filter is applied to inbound traffic, outbound traffic, or traffic in both directions. The possible values are Inbound (default), Outbound, or Both. Applications & Gateways Page 15 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Broadcast If set to True, the filter only applies to multicast and broadcast traffic. If set to False (default), the filter applies to all traffic. Source Addr Provides the source IP address, or portion thereof, that is to be matched for this filter. The source address is first masked (AND'ed) against Src Mask before being compared to this field. A value of 0 for this field and 0 for Src Mask matches all IP addresses. Source Mask Provides the bit mask to be applied to the source address prior to matching. This mask is not necessarily the same as a subnet mask, but 1's bits must be left-most and contiguous. Dest Addr Provides the destination IP address, or portion thereof, that is to be matched for this filter. The destination address is first masked (AND'ed) against Dest Mask before being compared to this field. A value of 0 for this field and 0 for Dest Mask matches all IP addresses. Dest Mask Provides the bit mask to be applied to the destination address prior to matching. This mask is not necessarily the same as a subnet mask, but 1's bits must be left-most and contiguous. Protocol Provides the IP protocol value that is to be matched. For example: icmp is 1, tcp is 6, udp is 17. A value of 256 matches any protocol. Src Port Low If Protocol is udp or tcp, this is the inclusive lower bound of the transport-layer source port range that is to be matched; otherwise, it is ignored during matching. Src Port High If Protocol is udp or tcp, this is the inclusive upper bound of the transport-layer source port range that is to be matched; otherwise, it is ignored during matching. Dst Port Low If Protocol is udp or tcp, this is the inclusive lower bound of the transport-layer destination port range that is to be matched; otherwise, it is ignored during matching. Dst Port High If Protocol is udp or tcp, this is the inclusive upper bound of the transport-layer destination port range that is to be matched; otherwise, it is ignored during matching. Applications & Gateways Page 16 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Matches Counts the number of times this filter was matched. This field is initialized to 0 at boot or at row creation and is reset only upon reboot. TOS Value The value to be matched to the packet's Type of Service (TOS) value after the TOS value is AND ed with TOS Mask. A value of 0 and a TOS Mask of 0 matches all TOS values. TOS Mask The mask to be applied to the packet's TOS value before matching. Continue If you set this value to True and Control is anything but Discard, scanning and policy application will continue. Policy ID The value of this field points to an entry in the Filter Policy Table. If Control is set to Policy, all matching policies in the Filter Policy Table will be executed. If no matching policy exists, processing will be treated as if Control were set to Accept. If this field is set to 0, there is no matching policy and the Filter Policy Table will not be consulted. Filter LLC Table DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select Filter Tables > LLC Table. Note: A red box around the LLC Unmatched Action button indicates that the device may not support this table. This table lists filters to apply to bridged Link Level Control (LLC) traffic received on a specified interface. The filters are applied to incoming traffic on the appropriate interface(s) prior to any further processing (e.g., before handing the packet off for level 3 processing or for bridging). This table contains the following fields. LLC Unmatched Action LLC (Link Level Control) filters can be defined on an inclusive or exclusive basis: CMs can be configured to forward only packets matching a set of layer three protocols, or to drop packets matching a set of layer three protocols. Typical use of these filters is to filter out possibly harmful (given the context of a large metropolitan LAN) protocols. If set to discard, any L2 packet which does not match at least one filter in the Filter LLC Table will be discarded. If set to accept, any L2 Applications & Gateways Page 17 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp packet which does not match at least one filter in the Filter LLC Table will be accepted for further processing (e.g., bridging). At initial system startup, this value is accept. Create New Table Entry Opens the Filter LLC Table Entry view which lets you create a new table entry. Note: You can create a new table entry only if the device supports this table. To create an entry, fill in the red boxed attributes with the appropriate values then save all changes. Index Index used for the identification of filters. (LLC filter order is irrelevant.) Row Status A read-create field that controls and reflects the status of rows in this table. There is no restriction on changing any of the associated columns for this row while this field is set to Active. IF Index Interface for which this entry is applicable. Protocol Type A read-create field that represents the format of the value in the Protocol field, either a two-byte Ethernet EtherType or a one-byte SAP value. EtherType also applies to SNAPencapsulated frames. The possible values are Ethertype (default) and dsap. Protocol The layer three protocol for which this filter applies. The protocol value format depends on the value of Protocol Type. (Note that, for SNAP frames, ethertype filtering is performed rather than DSAP). Matches The number of times this filter was matched. Applications & Gateways Page 18 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Filter Policy Table DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select Filter Tables > Policy Table. Note: If the Filter IP Table (Page 14) and the Filter LLC Table (Page 17) are not supported by the device, it is unlikely that the device supports the Filter Policy Table. This table maps a policy group ID to a set of policies to be applied. To create an entry, specify Policy Id and Policy Action. All rows with the same policy ID are part of the same policy group and are applied in the order displayed in the table. This table exists to allow multiple policy actions to be applied to any given classified packet. The policy actions are applied in index order. For example: Index ID Type Action 1 1 TOS TOS IPSEC 3 The above means that a packet matching a filter with policy ID 1, first has TOS policy 1 applied (which might set the TOS bits to enable a higher priority), and next has the IPSEC policy 3 applied (which may result in the packet being dumped into a secure VPN to a remote encryptor). Policy Id 0 is reserved for default actions and is applied only to packets that do not match filters in the Filter IP Table. This table contains the following fields. Except for Index, all fields are read-create. Applications & Gateways Page 19 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Create New Table Entry Opens the Filter Policy Table Entry view which lets you create a new table entry. Note: You can create a new table entry only if the device supports this table. To create an entry, fill in the red boxed attributes with the appropriate values then save all changes. Index The index number for the table. Policy ID Defines the policy ID for this entry. A policy ID can apply to multiple rows. All relevant policies are executed. Policy 0 (if populated) is applied to all packets that do not match any of the filters. (Note: setting this field to 0 does not match policy 0 of the table. Row Status Used to create an entry in this table. Type/Action Ptr (OID) This field points to a row in an applicable filter policy table. Currently, the only standard policy table is docsdevfiltertostable. Per the textual convention, this object points to the first accessible object in the row. E.g. to point to a row in docsdevfiltertostable with an index of 21, the value of this object would be the object identifier docsdevtosstatus.21. Vendors must adhere to the same convention when adding vendor specific policy table extensions. The default upon row creation is a null pointer which results in no policy action being taken. Applications & Gateways Page 20 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Filter Type Of Service Table DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select Filter Tables > TOS Table. Create New Table Entry Opens the Filter TOS Table Entry view which lets you create a new table entry. Note: If the Filter IP Table (Page 14) and the Filter LLC Table (Page 17) are not supported by the device, it is unlikely that the device supports the Filter Type Of Service Table. Note: You can create a new table entry only if the device supports this table. To create an entry, fill in the red boxed attributes with the appropriate values then save all changes. This table is used to describe Type of Service (TOS) bits processing. It is an adjunct to the Filter IP table and the Filter Policy table. Entries in the latter tables can point to specific rows in this (and other) tables and cause specific actions to be taken. This table permits the manipulation of the value of the TOS bits in the IP header of the matched packet using the following construct: Set the tosbits of the packet to (tosbits & And Mask) Or Mask This construct allows you to clear and set all TOS bits in a flexible manner. This table contains the following information. Except for Index, all fields are read-create. Index The unique index number for this row. There are no ordering requirements for this table and any valid index may be displayed. Row Status Used to create and delete entries in this table. A row created by specifying just this field results in a row that specifies no change to the TOS bits. A row may be created using either the create-andgo or create-and-wait paradigms. There is no restriction on the ability to change values in this row while the row is Active. And Mask A value that is bitwise AND ed with the matched packet's TOS bits. Applications & Gateways Page 21 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp Or Mask After bitwise AND ing with the And Mask bits, the packet's TOS bits are bitwise OR ed with these bits. Network Management Station (NMS) Access Table DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select NMS Access Table. This table controls access to SNMP objects by network management stations. If the table is empty, access to SNMP objects is unrestricted. This table exists only on SNMPv1 or v2c agents and does not exist on SNMPv3 agents. An entry in this table is not readable unless the management station has read-write permission (either implicit if the table is empty or explicit through an entry in this table). Entries are ordered by the value of Index. The first matching entry (e.g., matching IP address and community string) is used to derive access. This table contains the following information. Except for Index, all fields are read-create. Create New Table Entry Opens the NMS Access Table Entry view which lets you create a new table entry. Note: You can create a new table entry only if the device supports this table. To create an entry, fill in the red boxed attributes with the appropriate values then save all changes. Index Used to order the application of access entries. NMS IP Address The IP address (or subnet) of the NMS. The address means any NMS. If traps are enabled for the entry, the value must be the address of a specific device. NMS IP Mask The IP subnet mask of the NMSs. If traps are enabled for the entry, the value must be Community Str The community string to be matched for access by the entry. If set to a zero length string, any community string will match. The table should always return a zero length string. Access Allowed Specifies the type of access allowed to this NMS. Setting this field to None causes the table entry to be destroyed. Read (default) allows access by get Applications & Gateways Page 22 DOCSIS Applications

DOCSISCblDvApp and get-next PDUs. ReadWrite allows access by set as well. RoWithtraps, rwwithtraps, and trapsonly control distribution of trap PDUs transmitted by this device. Interfaces Allowed Specifies the set of interfaces from which requests from this NMS will be accepted. Each octet within the value of this field specifies a set of eight interfaces, with the first octet specifying ports 1 through 8, the second octet specifying interfaces 9 through 16, etc. Within each octet, the most significant bit represents the lowest numbered interface, and the least significant bit represents the highest numbered interface. Thus, each interface is represented by a single bit within the value of this field. If that bit has a value of 1, then that interface is included in the set. Note that entries in this table apply only to link-layer interfaces (e.g., Ethernet and CATV MAC). Upstream and downstream channel interfaces must not be specified. The default value is the bit mask corresponding to all interfaces. Row Status Controls and reflects the status of rows in this table. Rows in this table may be created by either the create-and-go or create-and-wait paradigm. There is no restriction on changing values in a row of this table while the row is Active. Software Download View DOCSISCblDvApp icon, select Software Download. This view lets you control software downloads. It contains the following fields. TFTP Server A read-write field giving the address of the TFTP server used for software upgrades. If the TFTP server is unknown, is displayed. Filename A read-write field giving the filename of the software image to be loaded into this device. Unless set via SNMP, this is the filename specified by the provisioning server that corresponds to the software version that is desired for this device. If unknown, the value unknown is displayed. 24 DOCSISCblDvApp Admin Status A read-write button having the values described below: Upgrade From Mgt means the device will initiate a TFTP software image download using the value of Filename. After successfully receiving an image, the device will set its state to Ignore Provisioning Upgrade and reboot. If the download process is interrupted by a reset or power failure, the device will load the previous image and, after re-initialization, continue to attempt loading the image specified in Filename. Allow Provisioning Upgrade means the device will use the software version information supplied by the provisioning server when next rebooting. (This does not cause a reboot.) Ignore Provisioning Upgrade means the device will disregard software image upgrade information from the provisioning server. At startup, this field has the default value Allow Provisioning Upgrade. Oper Status A read-only value giving the operational status, as follows. The value In Progress indicates that a TFTP download is underway, either as a result of a version mismatch at provisioning or as a result of an upgrade request. The value Complete From Provisioning indicates that the last software upgrade was a result of version mismatch at provisioning. The value Complete From Mgt indicates that the last software upgrade was a result of setting Admin Status to Upgrade From Mgt. The value Failed indicates that the last attempted download failed, ordinarily due to TFTP time-out. The value Other is also possible. Software Version The software version currently operating in this device (read-only). This value is in the syntax used by the individual vendor to identify software versions. A CM displays a value descriptive of the current software load. For a CMTS, the value is a textual representation of the vendor-specific designation of the software for the chassis or the software for the control processor. If neither of these is applicable, no value is displayed. Applications & Gateways Page 24 DOCSIS Applications
