TISPAN is providing input and considering feedback. External bodies and organisations are showing great interest in working together with TISPAN as a place to come for implementable NGN specifications. For example, TISPAN have active delegations from China, Japan, North America, South America. Per meeting, TISPAN are attracting about 150 delegates and handling over 250 documents. TISPAN is looking forward to any enhanced or new cooperation, any organisation or body that wishes to co-operate with TISPAN is most welcome. Coordination of a global message. 6 3

TISPAN_NGN Release 1 9 Completion of TISPAN_NGN Release 1 At TISPAN#9 (December 2005), TISPAN_NGN Release 1 was completed. The first set of implementable NGN specifications being used to build NGN. Main features Core TISPAN IP Multimedia Subsystem and its relationship to other TISPAN NGN components Network Attachment Subsystem (NASS) Resource and Admission Control Subsystem (RACS) PSTN/ISDN Emulation Subsystem (PES) PSTN/ISDN Simulation Services (PSS) The complete list of deliverables is contained at the end of the presentation. 10 5

Common Components of TISPAN_NGN Release 1 Functional Architecture A Common component can be accessed by more than one subsystem. Two types can be identified Component known in 3GPP IMS New component, defined by TISPAN Components known in 3GPP IMS Subscription Locator Function (SLF) Application Server Function (ASF) Charging and Data Collection Functions New components defined by TISPAN User Profile Server Function (UPSF) Application Server Function (ASF) with itf to RACS Interconnection Border Control Function (IBCF) Interworking Function (IWF) Charging and Data Collection Functions with itf to IBCF 13 UPSF Service-level user identification, numbering and addressing information. Service-level user security information: access control information for authentication and authorization. Service-level user location information at inter-system level: the UPSF supports the user registration, and stores intersystem location information, etc. Service-level user profile information. The UPSF may store user profile information related to one or more service control subsystems and applications. The UPSF does not contain profile information related to IP connectivity subscriptions. Such information is hold in the Network Attachment Subsystem (NASS). However, where it makes sense in the context of a particular business model, the UPSF may be co-located with the data base function of the NASS. 14 7
IBCF, IWF The IBCF controls the boundary between two operators' domains (IP). The IBCF interacts with transport resources, through the resource and admission control subsystem (including NAPT and firewall functions). The IBCF screens signalling information based on source/destination, beyond what is already performed inside each of the subsystems (e.g. by the THIG functionality of the I-CSCF for the IMS core subsystem). When interacting with the IMS component of the architecture, the IBCF encompasses the functionality of the Application Layer Gateway (3GPP ). The IBCF inserts the IWF in the signalling route when appropriate. The IWF performs the interworking between NGN SIP profiles and other SIP profiles or IP-based protocols (e.g. the H.323 protocol). 15 Network Attachment Subsystem (NASS) Dynamic provision of IP addresses and other terminal configuration parameters. Authentication taking place at the IP layer, prior or during the address allocation procedure. Authorization of network access based on user profiles. Access network configuration based on user profiles. User profiles related to the access subscription only. Location management taking place at the IP layer. The Release 1 NGN architecture does not mandate a single NASS instance to support multiple access networks. This does not prevent operators from deploying NASS functions that are common to multiple access networks (e.g. one user profile database common to different access networks). 16 8
NASS Components CNGCF Customer Network Gateway Control Function ARF Access Relay Function AMF Access Management Function UAAF User Access Authorisation Function NACF Network Access Configuration Function CLF - Connectivity session Location and repository Function PDBF - Profile Data Base Function 17 NASS Interfaces Interface e1 is an access-network-specific interface, and is dependant on the access technology being used (xdsl, WLAN, etc.). Interface e5 is a roaming interface, and is independent of the access technology. Interface e5 is used to provide a consistent method for the visited NGN network to communicate with the home NGN network. Interface e2 is DIAMETER-based. Interface e4 is DIAMETER-based. 18 9
Resource and Admission Control Subsystem (RACS) RACS provides admission control and gate control functionalities (including the control of NAPT and priority marking), with admission control involving checking authorisation based on user profiles held in the network attachment subsystem, on operator specific policy rules and on resource availability. RACS checks resource availability, it implies that the admission control function verifies whether the requested bandwidth is compatible with both the subscribed bandwidth and the amount of bandwidth already used by the same user on the same access, and possibly other users sharing the same resources 19 RACS Components A-RACF is always in the access network, supports resource reservation. For admission control and final policy decisions, the A-RACF receives requests from the SPDF. The SPDF (Service-based Policy Decision Function) provides the AF (i.e. AGCF, AS, P-CSCF, IBCF) with a single point of contact, via Gq based on DIAMETER. The SPDF may be collocated with or separated from the AF. Protocols have been specified applicable at the Rq interface (SPDF <-> A-RACF) and Ia interface (SPDF <- > BGF) 20 10
RACS and QoS In Release 1, QoS applies only at the access, not endto-end (-> Release 2). The AF maps the application layer QoS information, e.g. P-CSCF maps parameters defined in SDP, into QoS request information to be sent via the Gq interface to the SPDF. The Resource Control Enforcement Function (RCEF) is a logical element in the transport layer that enforces the policies by means of which RACS can assure the use of the resources. The RCEF is a specific instance of the BGF. It sits in an access network or at one of its edges (e.g. IP edge). A Border Gateway Function (BGF) provides the interface between two IP-transport domains. The Core BGF (C-BGF) sits at the boundary between an access network and a core network, at the core network side (e.g. border node). 21 PSTN/ISDN Emulation Subsystem (PES) "Provides PSTN/ISDN service capabilities and interfaces using adaptation to an IP infrastructure" Emulates a PSTN/ISDN network from the point of view of legacy terminals (or interfaces) by an IP network, through a gateway. All PSTN/ISDN services remain available and identical (i.e. with the same ergonomics), such that end users are unaware that they are not connected to a TDM-based PSTN/ISDN. TISPAN has defined two PES approaches Softswitch based PES Analogue users ISDN users IMS based PES Analogue users only ISDN terminals are out of scope 22 11

PSTN/ISDN Simulation Services (PSS) "Provides PSTN/ISDN-like service capabilities using session control over IP interfaces and infrastructure The provision of PSTN/ISDN-like services to advanced terminals (IP-phones) or IP-interfaces. There is no strict requirement to make all PSTN/ ISDN services available or identical, although end users expect to have access to the most popular ones, possibly with different ergonomics. Not by an individual subsystem! The services are supported in conjunction with the (TISPAN) Core IMS. 27 PSS in Release 1 and 2 Release 1 CDIV CONF MWI OIP OIR TIP TIR HOLD ACR CB MCID ECT Release 2 CCBS CCNR CW AoC Revision of R1 services 28 14

QoS The TISPAN System Group will have overall control of QoS issues within TISPAN and will allocate work to the Working Groups as necessary. TISPAN and STQ will work in close co-operation. STQ works on what we want to achieve in terms of parameters and numbers User-to-user and application layer QoS requirements The network performance required to support these requirements TISPAN works on how we achieve this in terms of design Functional and architectural requirements Signalling and protocols to be implemented Co-operation with other bodies as well, e.g. ITU-T, IETF etc., see also External Relations at the beginning of the presentation. 37 Summary 38 19
Summary Thanks to all TISPAN collaborators and officials! Identification of the right issues in order to cover the market needs. Provision of high quality and implementable deliverables.
