1 Departamento de Engenharia Informática Enterprise Integration Asynchronous BPEL process Tutorial IE 2016 In this tutorial, we shall create an asynchronous BPEL process in JDeveloper 11g, deploy and test the SOA application. This tutorial is a follow-up to the BPEL Tutorial. 1. Open the VM Control Center and check if the AdminServer is running. If not, start it. 2. Open JDeveloper and use the Default Role. 3. Create an application and project by following these steps: In the menu, select File -> New... In the Categories pane, select General. Click on Generic Application and on the OK button. In the Create Generic Application window, change the Application Name to AsyncBPEL and click on Next. In Step 2 of the Create Generic Application window, change the Project Name to AsyncBPELPrj. 2 Within the Project Technologies tab, click on SOA and on the right arrow button (i.e, > ). i. SOA should appear in the Selected pane as shown below. Click on Next In Step 3, change the Composite Name to AsyncBPEL and select Empty Composite in the Composite Template pane. Click on Finish IST/DEI Pág. 2 de 12

3 Creating a SOA Composite Application with a BPEL Process 4. Select composite.xml in the Design view. This is the SOA Composite Editor which currently contains no service components. 5. Drag-and-drop the BPEL process to the Components lane. 6. The Create BPEL Process window should open automatically. Change the following information: Select BPEL 2.0 Specification Name: AsyncHelloWorldBPEL Template: Asynchronous BPEL Process The checkbox Expose as a SOAP service should be selected 7. 4 The composite application diagram should look like this: The AsyncHelloWorld BPEL process is the only service component and the process is exposed as a Web service. Note that we have two port types in the asynchronous BPEL process. The first port type has the process operation, for a client to invoke the service. And the second port type has the processresponse operation, which is used to perform the callback to the client. 8. Next, we have to add a Web service to the composite application. The Web service is the BPEL process that we created and deployed in the previous tutorial (SimpleBPEL). Hence, drag-and-drop a Web Service binding component to the External References lane of the composite diagram. IST/DEI Pág. 4 de 12

5 9. The Create Web Service window opens. Change the Name to HelloWorldWS. 10. Click on Find Existing WSDLs as shown below. 11. The SOA Resource Browser window opens. Select the Resource Palette and expand all the nodes until you find the SimpleBPEL service as shown below. Click on helloworldbpel_client_ep (ws). 12. Click on OK. IST/DEI Pág. 5 de 12

6 13. In the Create Web Service window, click on OK. 14. We now have to wire the external references to the BPEL process. Hence, drag a wire from the BPEL process service component (AsyncHelloWorldBPEL) to the external reference (HelloWorldWS). The composite application diagram should look like this: 15. Open the AsyncHelloWorldBPEL.bpel. Note that the HelloWorldWS is already in the Partner Links lane (i.e., a partner link has already been generated, because we wired the BPEL process to an external reference in the previous step). Also note that the Asynchronous BPEL process ends with an invoke activity for the callback operation. 16. From the Component Palette, drag-and-drop the Assign activity on top of the arrow that links the receiveinput to the callbackclient. IST/DEI Pág. 6 de 12

7 17. Add an Invoke activity below the Assign activity. 18. Add a Wait activity below the Invoke activity. 19. Add an Assign activity below the Wait activity. Your diagram should look like this: IST/DEI Pág. 7 de 12

8 20. Visually connect the invoke activity (i.e. Invoke1) to the HelloWorldWS (in the Partner Links lane). This will open Edit Invoke window. 21. In the Edit Invoke window, change the Name to InvokeHelloWorld. 22. In the Edit Invoke window, click on the Input tab (within the General tab) and create a variable for the input message of the web service by clicking on the + icon. 23. A Create Variable window should open. Use the default values and click on OK. 24. In the Edit Invoke window, click on the Output tab (within the General tab) and create a variable for the output message of the web service by clicking on the + icon. 25. A Create Variable window should open. Use the default values and click on OK. 26. In the Edit Invoke window, click on OK. 27. Double-click Assign1 activity. Visually connect the inputvariable to the InvokeHelloWorld_process_InputVariable (N.B., you should fully expand the variables and connect the leaf nodes as shown in the following figure). This assign activity will copy the content of the input message of the BPEL process to the input message of the Web service. IST/DEI Pág. 8 de 12

9 28. Change the name of the Assign1 activity to AssignWSInput. Click on OK. 29. Double click the Wait1 activity. This will open Edit Wait window. 30. Change the name of the Wait1 activity to Wait30Secs. 31. Change the Secs text field to 30 as shown below. Click on OK. IST/DEI Pág. 9 de 12

10 32. Double-click Assign2 activity. Visually connect the InvokeHelloWorld_process_OutputVariable to the outputvariable (N.B., you should fully expand the variables and connect the leaf nodes as shown in the following figure). This assign activity will copy the content of the output message of the Web service to the message of the callback operation. 33. Change the name of the Assign2 activity to AssignCallbackMsg. Click on OK. 34. Save your work. 35. Deploy the application to the server. Testing the Asynchronous Sevice 36. Access the following URL Enter the username (weblogic) and password (welcome1). Click on Login. 38. Expand Farm_dev_soasuite, SOA, soa-infra (AdminServer), and default. 39. Click on your SOA application (AsyncBPEL). 40. Click on the Test button. IST/DEI Pág. 10 de 12

11 41. Enter a value for your Input string. 42. Click on the Test Web Service button at the end of the page. 43. Note that you will immediately receive a response (Test Status: Request successfully received). In an asynchronous BPEL process, the client is not blocked while the service is running. Click on the Launch Flow Trace button. 44. A Flow Trace window will open. Note that we can see that the HelloWorldBPEL has been invoked from the AsyncHelloWorldBPEL. IST/DEI Pág. 11 de 12

12 45. Click on AsyncHelloWorldBPEL. You should see that your process is still executing the Wait30secs activity. 46. Click on the Refresh link (as shown above) until the callback operation has been invoked (as shown below). IST/DEI Pág. 12 de 12
