zunit Enhancement Output file comparison COBOL only and Requires Updated Client & Host Test Data Entry Editor supports using existing files for File I/O entries Expected and Actual output can be compared using SuperC Compare Utility
zunit Enhancement Testing with invalid data COBOL only The Test Data Entry editor allows specification of bad data as part of a test case Examples of invalid data could include String data in numeric fields Hex data in numeric fields Testing with bad data necessary useful for testing error handling functionality
zunit Enhancement VSAM file support COBOL only and Requires Updated Client & Host A VSAM file can be generated for Input, from data specified in Test Data Entry editor. Support for ESDS, KSDS, and RRDS For ESDS, user should enter Test Data to each record sequentially For KSDS, user should enter Test Data with specifying record key in Test Entry Data Editor. Random order is acceptable. For RRDS, relative key won t be shown in Test Entry Editor. User should input all each record sequentially. Expected and Actual output can be compared using SuperC Compare Utility Test Data Entry editor supports setting File Test Type to use an existing VSAM file Read as Input / Evaluate Output file with existing VSAM file via Compare Utility Currently not supported Alternate Indexes Variable length files LINE SEQUENTIAL files Empty records Running zunit Test Case from load module
zunit Enhancement DB2 support COBOL only and Requires Updated Client & Host New in IDz v14 Generate + Build + Run available for batch DB2 Programs New procedure named AZUZUDB2 added in SFELSAMP The new procedure also works for non-sql programs One option is use always AZUZUDB2, and the other is to switch AZUZUNIT and AZUZUDB2 for each program by editing procedure name in the property group. Necessary TSO input (DB2 system name, plan name etc..) is set in Additional JCL field of property group
zunit Enhancement zunit Project Setup JCL Sample JCL to allocate zunit data sets Can be run by users intending to work with zunit JCL shipped as <HLQ>.SFELSAMP(AZUALLOC) HLQ matches the high level qualifier used by the Sysprog who installed IDz (default is FEL). r/ssq2r2_14.0.0/com.ibm.etools.rdz.zunit.do c/topics/c_zunit_samples.html Allocates
zunit Enhancement Generate Options Simplified Generate Programs menu action now remembers the previous choice you made for this Test Case after using Generate Program As Reduces the number of confirmation prompts
zunit Enhancement Delay Debug COBOL only and Requires Updated Client & Host Simplifies initial Debugging of zunit Test Cases Fixes scenario where source was for Generated Test Case, not Test target program Only works with Debug Tool Only works when Generating, Building and Debugging Test (not running from executable) As a step of IDz host configuration, EQAOPTS load module should be built and located in system search path like STEPLIB. EQAOPTS load module dataset needs to be put before the DT SEQAMOD data set in the search path. It should contain the following macro so that zunit would specify the name of target source: EQAXOPT DLAYDBG,YES EQAXOPT DLAYDBGDSN,'&&USERID.ZUNIT.DLAYDBG.EQAUOPTS When Overwrite Delay Debug Profile is checked, zunit updates the delay debug profile <USER>.ZUNIT.DLAYDBG. EQAUOPTS for test case being debugged.
Program understanding and analysis Data Flow Diagram Show In > Data Flow Visualize the flow of data variable and literal values Static Code Analytics Useful for: ABEND Root Cause Analysis Field Expansion projects Where used (variables) Currently not supported DB2 Programs CICS Programs
IDz (new Java/Style) Editors: Autosave Existed already for z Systems LPEX editor COBOL, PL/I and JCL editors now support Autosave New preference, turned on by default, set for every 5 minutes Periodic local saves are performed, so if an edit session ends abnormally, due for instance to an operating system or workbench failure, you will be given an opportunity to recover your changes the next time you open the file
IDz (new Java/Style) Editors: Search Text in File Quick way to find all references to specific text while editing Search is case sensitive Can enter (or use pre-selected) text to find Advanced option uses File Search Supported Editors PL/I, JCL, COBOL LPEX
Source code analysis Expanded source enhancement Source > Show Expanded Source Now adds a comment with Copybook/Include Location details regarding where the dependency file was resolved
Source code analysis - Ignore margin areas in Assembler source compare New compare preferences for Assembler Editor file compare
JCL Editor Show JCL Improvements When editing JCL as a result of Show JCL (SJ) from JES Filters in Remote Systems view Open Declaration to Retrieve a Data Set Open, View, Browse members Support for Symbolic resolution
Job Analysis - Compare Show JCL/Show Job Output Can now compare: Job Spool Data Show JCL for Jobs
JCL Editor Syntax Support for z/os v MAXGENS keyword for PDSE v2 data set creation JES2 support for defining Job Groups In general, IDz v14 contains serious JCL Syntax Validation upgrades
Submit/Locate - Job Output Options New Preference for users who prefer the Remote System Details view Default is Remote Systems view Can choose Details (table format) vs. hierarchical tree-view
Remote Console Job Completion Notification New Job submitted message Job ID is now a link to Locate Job Upon Submit, select: Notify and when the Job ends, you can click the Hyper-Link in the Remote Console view to go directly to the JES Output Remote Console view
Display the newest Job output Open Spool Helpful when viewing logs of running Jobs Can monitor the Job output spool files and results as the Job executes
Display the newest Job output Setup New workspace preference Remote Systems > z/os > JES Can be overridden per remote system using JES properties
Enhance JES spool refresh In Editor Pressing F5 will refresh Job status in JES view Spool contents in editor
Modify Filter Filter Name and Strings Filter name is now a text box Allows for renaming a filter as well as changing/adding to the Filter Strings Supported for: MVS USS JES
Access to Dataset aliases with Symbolic Names Requires Updated Client & Host Symbols are often defined in IEASYMxx or IEASYSxx parmlibs &SYSNAME &CLOCK etc A user can define an alternate name for a data set using a TSO command SYMBOLICRELATE entryname is converted for use by RSE and Remote Search
Menu Manager - Output Dialog Fonts and Colors New Preference provides custom background, foreground and monospaced (non-proportionally spaced fonts) to the Action Output dialog data Menu Manager Output dialog Prior to IDz v14
Add Font/Font Size preference specific to IBM RDz Data Editor z Systems Data Editor was not monospace when editing data that contains nonprintable EBCDIC characters New Preference allows selection of monospaced font Note: Font and Color controls on the preference page require re-opening the editor
Remove button needed on the Change Order Data Set Order Dialog Being able to drag and drop data sets from RSE view into the SYSLIB field is a very helpful feature. The Change Order dialog to move data sets up and down the list is also helpful. However, when the list contains nearly 100 data sets and one in the middle needs to be removed it is difficult to scroll through the SYSLIB text field to find the data set to be removed. The solution. a Remove button.
Specify Property Group complete" special Link instructions for SYSLIN For CA Datacom/DB Applications Link Instructions now allows for CEEUOPT to be included first -necessary for debugging CA Datacom/DB applications Summary: If INCLUDE OBJnnnn is in the link instructions, it no longer needs to be first
IDz and Java Development Integrate J2C Component into IDz Java development for z Systems is increasing Initiative to make it easy for developers to create and/or re-use applications on z, regardless of the language they choose Common confusion over the years what product J2C feature was in RAD or RDz? Now a common component and is included in both Optional feature, not selected for install by default When developing a Java program to link to a CICS program with a COMMAREA or access a VSAM file, you will typically need to map the underlying record structure from a high level language copybook to Java data types. The J2C Data Bindings tooling can be used to create Java classes from COBOL, PL/I or C data structures for use as input or output types in a CICS or IMS Java program that interacts with record based language structures. In IDz v14, the J2C component was included as is from RAD. In future versions you could imagine that it could be made more IDz friendly For example: Allow importing COBOL copybooks directly from Remote System Note: The article currently talks about RAD but the same applies for IDz, since J2C is common
J2C Tooling IDz only supports the first option CICS/IMS Java Data Binding Command Bean currently requires J2C Bean wizard J2C Bean Currently requires Resource Adapters and traditional WAS deployment Resource Adapters are only for traditional WAS and thus only shipped with RAD
J2C Example Scenario COBOL program exists in CICS Need to write a Java program to invoke the COBOL program Create a Java Plugin Project Use the J2C tooling - CICS/IMS Java Data Binding wizard import a COBOL data structure generate a Java class to wrap the data structure capable of transforming data between Java and COBOL Create a Java Class to invoke the COBOL program Uses the generated J2C class for data access Configure the Plugin Project for CICS deployment Import dependencies and cefine CICS Main class Create CICS Bundle Project Define resources to be managed by the bundle Export Bundle to zfs Define and Install Bundle
IDz/SCM Integration Enhancements 68
Enhanced Edit locking CA Endevor resources Requires Updated Client & Host Enhanced Edit shall place lock/enqueue on resource that is being edited Enhanced Edit verifies that resources are not locked/enqueued prior to opening for edit: Locked by another IDz user Locked by an ISPF Endevor user Support for Elements and Packages
Multiple Endevor Instances on One System Requires Updated Client & Host Updated client and server required Support for multiple Endevor instances on one Remote System Define unique CARMA connection names All using the same RSE connection Connection name is passed through to host to insure appropriate instance is used Refer to Host Configuration Guide for server setup and REXX samples
User Build: Support for C/C++ Previously User Build was restricted to COBOL and PL/I source files. C/C++ are now fully supported, including population of the Remote Error list If Use for Syntax Check is selected in the translator, an EVENTS option is added but the user must supply an appropriate SYSEVENTS allocation in the translator Generates Which provides
IDz Integration with RTC Rational Team Concert Integration for z Systems Add-on to IDz containing RTC integration features Included with IDz offering Available from Mainframe Dev Center download site RTC 6.0 is minimum version required Supports RTC 6.0.x Client for Eclipse 4.2.x IDE
RTC/User Build: Support for Conditional Translators Since v5.0.1 Rational Team has supported conditional translators which are now also supported in a limited fashion by User Build Conditions which evaluate to false at User Build JCL generation time will result in the associated system definitions (e.g. lang def build properties, translators, dd allocations and concatenations in translators) being ignored by the JCL generation. Conditions which involve the return code of previous translators (e.g. RC < 8) will result in the conditions being included in the JCL as JCL conditions.
RTC/User Build: Populate SYSLIB for Additional Call Methods Previously the SYSLIB (Search Order in User Build wizard) was only populated when the call method used was "Called Program and the current step had been identified as a compile step. Now SYSLIB will also be populated for any translator that has the Use for Syntax Check option checked.
RTC/User Build: Support Instream DD Since v5.0.1 Rational Team has supported "instream DD and specification of the textual entries that would make up the data content. User Build now identifies an instream DD allocation entry in a translator and creates a corresponding JCL construct, making sure any build properties are properly resolved.
RTC/Property Group Gen+User Build: Enhance build definition selection Previously, the build definition selection was chosen from a drop down list which can be cumbersome when the number of build definitions is high. Now, the list of definitions shows up in a separate dialog which can be filtered.
RTC/Property Group Gen: Allow the use of templates during PG generation Previously, customizing of a Property Group was done after generation and had to be done for each generated Property Group. Now a Property Group can be customized and then used as a template during Generate Property Groups. If no template is chosen, the current behavior will apply.
