10 Next generation z/os application debugging The IBM z/os Debugger next generation test/debugging technology. It provides comprehensive support for new workload as well as legacy applications. Full compatibility mode to Debug Tool for z/os for proven stability and extensive support of legacy workload. Support for new workload such as PL/I 64-bit applications. Takes advantage of off the mainframe debugging for reduced resource consumption. Visualization technology to assist in comprehension of complex z/os applications by visualizing execution of programs. Stack-pattern breakpoints: granular specification of condition under which the debugger halts execution and returns control to its user. Deferred breakpoints: enables users to specify breakpoints in source editors and their outline views (as opposed to setting up breakpoints from source display). Necessary TSO input (DB2 system name, plan name etc..) is set in Additional JCL field of property group

EQAOPTS load module dataset needs to be put before the DT SEQAMOD data set in the search path. It should contain the following macro so that zunit would specify the name of target source: EQAXOPT DLAYDBG,YES EQAXOPT DLAYDBGDSN,'&&USERID.ZUNIT.DLAYDBG.EQAUOPTS When Overwrite Delay Debug Profile is checked, zunit updates the delay debug profile <USER>.ZUNIT.DLAYDBG. EQAUOPTS for test case being debugged.

48 IDz (new Java/Style) Editors: Autosave Existed already for z Systems LPEX editor COBOL, PL/I and JCL editors now support Autosave New preference, turned on by default, set for every 5 minutes Periodic local saves are performed, so if an edit session ends abnormally, due for instance to an operating system or workbench failure, you will be given an opportunity to recover your changes the next time you open the file

66 IDz and Java Development Integrate J2C Component into IDz Java development for z Systems is increasing Initiative to make it easy for developers to create and/or re-use applications on z, regardless of the language they choose Common confusion over the years what product J2C feature was in RAD or RDz? Now a common component and is included in both Optional feature, not selected for install by default When developing a Java program to link to a CICS program with a COMMAREA or access a VSAM file, you will typically need to map the underlying record structure from a high level language copybook to Java data types. The J2C Data Bindings tooling can be used to create Java classes from COBOL, PL/I or C data structures for use as input or output types in a CICS or IMS Java program that interacts with record based language structures. In IDz v14, the J2C component was included as is from RAD. In future versions you could imagine that it could be made more IDz friendly For example: Allow importing COBOL copybooks directly from Remote System Note: The article currently talks about RAD but the same applies for IDz, since J2C is common

Conditions which involve the return code of previous translators (e.g. RC < 8) will result in the conditions being included in the JCL as JCL conditions.
