2 Chapter 1 : PVR-TV 878 PCI TV Card Hardware Installation 1.1 Package Contents Unpack your PVR-TV 878 PCI TV card package and make sure that all items are intact. The following items should be included in your package: TV878 PCI TV Card Audio Cable Remote control and remote sensor FM Antenna (Optional) PVR PLUS User Manual Installation Manual Installation CD 1.2 System Requirements Pentium-III 800 MHz or higher (recommended) 128 MB RAM of system memory or above (recommended) PCI 2.2 Compliant Slot Graphics Card (Must Support DirectX 9.0) Sound Card (AC97 compatible sound card) 1GB Free HD Space CD-ROM Drive (For software installation) Microsoft Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP 1.3 Hardware Installation Please follow the steps shown on the right for installation of your TV Card and follow the pictorial guide below for peripheral connections. 1. Turn off all your computer power and any peripherals. 2. Select an available PCI slot and remove the slot cover, screw, etc. 3. Push the TV card firmly into the slot until it snaps in place and secure the card by replacing the screw you remove from step Place the PC lid cover back then power on. 2

3 Chapter 2 : PVR-TV 878 Utilities And Drivers Setup PVR TV 878 PCI TV card package comes with complete Windows software utilities. These utilities and drivers can be found on the CD included in the package. During installation, it is highly recommended to disable any sub-programs. These include applications such as antivirus software and system monitoring applications. 1. Once you finish the hardware installation, restart your system. Windows Found New Hardware Wizard will pop up. Please click Cancel and run the utilities and drivers setup included in the CD. 2. Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The auto run page will appear as the one on the left, please select Driver Install. 3. The InstallShield of Driver Install will help you to install all the drivers and utilities. First, it will install the TV remote control on your system. Click Next to continue. 4. Then the InstallShield of Driver Install will help you install the TV card drivers automatically. Please click Next to install PVR-TV 878 WDM drivers. 3

4 5. When the message as the one on the left shows, it means that the drivers have been installed properly. Click Next to continue. 6. After installing drivers successfully, you MUST choose your local TV system by either choosing TV System or Country. If you select the wrong TV system, you may not be able to watch any TV. 7. You can click the TV System directly to choose your local TV system. If you don t know your local TV system, please select Country to use the default system. 8. When the window on the left pops up, click Yes, I want to restart my computer now, to restart your PC to activate the TV card. Note: You can restart your computer after installing PVR PLUS Software application. 4

5 Chapter 3 : PVR PLUS Software Installation After the drivers are installed, the next step you need to do is to install PVR PLUS. Please follow the steps below to install it. 1. Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The auto run page appears as the one on the left. Click on PVR PLUS to start installation. 2. The InstallShield Wizard will guide you through installation the PVR PLUS application. Click Next to continue. 3. Please choose the destination folder where you want to install the files. You can click Browse to change the destination folder. 4. Setup will add program icons to the Program Folder s list. You may type a new folder name, or select one from the existing folders list. Click Next to start installing. Please wait while installation is in process. 5

6 5. When the message as the one on the left pops up, click Finish to end the installation. 6

7 Chapter 4 : PVR PLUS Software Functions When using PVR PLUS, there are four different functions to choose from. Picture below is an example of how the interface looks like and a short description of each function. TVR : TVR turns your PC into a full-featured video recorder. MPEG Encoder : MPEG Encoder converts AVI files into MPEG format. Video Editor : Video Editor makes editing MPEG video files easy. Burn DVD : Burn DVD creates VCD, SVCD and DVD that can be played on a PC or DVD player. Note: For more detailed descriptions, please refer to PVR PLUS user manual. 7

8 Chapter 5 : FAQ 1. How to reset the TV system? Ans : To re-set the TV system again, follow the pictorial guide below and choose TV878 TVSetup to change system settings. Fig.1 2. How to check if the drivers have been installed successfully or not? Ans: Right click on My Computer on the desktop and choose Properties. Once in Properties window, click on Device Manager in Hardware panel. Click on the plus icon of Sound, video and game controllers to open the device list. 3. How to check if the TV878 Remote Control can work fine? Ans : 1) You have to check if the TV878 Remote Control utility is installed or not. Please refer to Fig. 1. 2) You have to check if the drivers have been installed or not. See FAQ-2. 3) You can check if the TV878 Remote Control tray icon is loaded in the right-bottom of task bar.
