hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication Introduction This chapter explains how to communicate with the ViewMarq display using a Windows based personal computer. It will cover: Links and how they are used with the ViewMarq reating Ethernet Links rowsing the Ethernet network for ViewMarq displays Editing ViewMarq display Ethernet settings online reating serial Links The user will need to communicate with the ViewMarq for various reasons: ) Read the existing LE display configuration ) onfigure the ViewMarq display communication ports ) Send messages to the ViewMarq display ) Reset the display ) Reset factory defaults in the display ) Update firmware in the display ) Test the LE s Links The ViewMarq onfiguration software utilizes Links to communicate to ViewMarq displays. Link is a set of P communication parameters that allows the software to communicate to a display or a set of displays when necessary without having to stay connected to the display, tying up a port on the P. Links are created and configured in the P to LE display ommunication dialog and once created may be easily selected from a Link drop down list at the top right of the software window as shown. - User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication There are three types of Links: ) Ethernet Modbus/TP ) Serial SII ) Serial Modbus Ethernet Modbus/TP Ethernet links are the easiest to setup and are Modbus/TP protocol only. They are point to point, in other words, only one display can be addressed at one time via its IP address. ) Using a straight-through or crossover Ethernet Patch cable, connect the ViewMarq to the P s Ethernet port. The system will automatically detect the cable type.(one seven foot straightthrough cable is supplied with the ViewMarq). ) The ViewMarq LE display can also be connected to a local Ethernet network via a straightthrough or crossover cable. P Ethernet able ViewMarq LE Message isplay User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M -
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication Serial SII Serial SII Links are the most versatile. They can be set up over RS- or RS-. Serial SII does not address a particular display by node number like Modbus or an IP address. This allows the I in the SII string to be utilized to address multiple displays. See hapter for more details on LE display I. Serial Modbus Serial Modbus links are point to point. Each transaction is directed to a particular panel via a Slave Node Number which is unique for each display on a network. P US able E-MG-PGM-L US to RS onverter ViewMarq LE Message isplay Serial able - User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication dding a New Link To add a new link, select P to LE isplay ommunications from the Setup dropdown menu... This will open the P to LE isplay ommunications dialog....or select the P to LE isplay ommunications toolbar button. User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M -
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication Ethernet Link Follow these steps to add an Ethernet Link. ) With the P to LE isplay ommunication dialog open, click the dd button. Notice that a new link named New Link has been added. The * indicates that the new link has not been saved yet. ) Select the Ethernet radio button. ) If you know the IP address of the display, enter it here and skip to step. ) Otherwise click the rowse button to browse the network for any connected ViewMarq displays. - User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication ) The Ethernet rowse dialog will open and the connected ViewMarq display will be listed as shown below.. If the ViewMarq does not show up on the list: i. heck your physical connection. ii. heck that the Ethernet Port on the P is enabled. ) Select the ViewMarq LE message display in the table. ) If the IP ddress is correct on your local Subnet, click Select and proceed to step. ) If the IP ddress is not on your Subnet it must be changed, select it and click Edit to open the Ethernet rowse Editor. ) eselect Obtain IP ddress from HP Server ) Enter an IP ddress, Subnet Mask and efault Gateway compatible with your P s Ethernet network settings or check with your IT department for the proper settings. NOTE: For more information on configuring ViewMarq ommunication ports see hapter - onfiguring the ViewMarq LE isplay. NOTE: If no HP server is found, a default IP ddress of..xxx.nnn will be set. The notation.nnn will vary for each display on the network. User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M -
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication ) You may also choose to change the name of the ViewMarq display and I number at this time. ) lick Update. The display will automatically reset. The new settings will scroll on the display. ) In the rowse Window click the Refresh button if the marquee is not listed. ) When the ViewMarq is listed in the table again, select it and click Select. ) The TP Port Number default value is 0 which is the Ethernet port for the Modbus TP protocol. This should not be changed unless it has been changed on the ViewMarq also. NOTE: To communicate with the ViewMarq message display through a router, port 0 must be open. ) The Message Timeout and Message Retry values are adjusted to make network communications more tolerant of network delays and noise. The TP connection timeout is always twice the message timeout and not configurable. ) With the new link highlighted in the Link List, enter a new name for the link in the Link Name box. ) lick Save and OK - User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication Serial Link Follow these steps to add a Serial Link. ) With the P to LE isplay ommunication dialog open, click the dd button. Notice that a new link named New Link has been added. The * indicates that the new link has not been saved yet. ) Select the Serial radio button. ) If you know the OM Port Number on the P that the View Marq is connected to, then select the OM Port number dropdown. Only the available active P OM ports will be shown in the list. User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M -
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication NOTE: If using the E-MG-PGM-L US to RS- converter, and you aren t sure which P OM Port is assigned, click the etail... button to identify it. The screen below shows the Koyo US-Serial omm Port devise assigned to OM. Select it and click OK. ) If you know the Serial ommunication settings of the Serial port on the ViewMarq display, change Protocol, Panel Node ddress (Modbus only), aud Rate, Parity and ata its to match the settings of the ViewMarq. NOTE: For more information on configuring the ViewMarq ommunication Ports see hapter onfigurating the Viewmarq LE isplay ) efault Timeout and Retry settings are usually best depending on your connection quality. You may adjust these as necessary if errors occur. - User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M
hapter : P to ViewMarq ommunication ) With the New Link highlighted in the Link List, enter a new name for the link in the Link Name box. ) Select Save and OK. User Manual, st Ed. Rev. M-USER-M -
