2 System Requirements - VisionView PC Software Hardware Requirements Intel Pentium 4 processor running at 1 GHz (or equivalent). 512MB of available RAM. 500MB of available hard-disk space. Video card capable of displaying 800x600 resolution at 16-bit color depth. The DPI Display setting must be set to 96 DPI. Network Interface Card (at least 10Mbps). Operating System Requirements The VisionView PC software has been tested on the following 32-bit operating systems: Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Service Pack 2 Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3 Microsoft Windows Vista Business, Service Pack 1 NOTES: Although the VisionView PC software may function on other operating systems, systems not meeting the preceding requirements are not supported. You must have administrative privileges to the PC to install the VisionView PC software. Software Requirements The Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 must be installed before installing the VisionView PC software. Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 is included with the VisionView PC software; it is automatically installed if not detected on the PC. Licensing The VisionView PC software allows you to deploy the VisionView application on a PC that resides on the same network as In- Sight, DataMan or DVT sensors. The functionality of the VisionView PC software is the same as the VisionView Operator Interface Panel or VisionView VGA, except for minor differences, which are noted within the VisionView Software Manual. The VisionView PC software is distributed in two different packages: a demo version and a full version. The demo version has an automatic timeout of fortyfive minutes and is available as a free download on the VisionView support site and on the VisionView PC Demo CD that is shipped with the VisionView Operator Interface Panel and VisionView VGA. The full version provides complete functionality, does not timeout and is available for download on the VisionView support site. To use the full version, you must purchase a license and install the license using the Cognex Software Licensing Center, which is automatically installed to the PC with the full version. 4 New Features Added support for the VisionView VGA, a low-cost DIN rail-mount adapter that provides direct VGA output for the VisionView application software. It supports touch screen control from supported HMIs and provides a LAN port to directly connect to a sensor, switch, router or factory network, allowing the VisionView VGA to communicate with remote sensors on the factory floor. Note: The VisionView VGA supports the Mitsubishi GT15 series and GT16 series touch screens. Added limited support for Cognex DataMan 200 ID readers running firmware version 3.5 and later. Note: DataMan can operate at speeds of one to two reads per second when connected to a VisionView device. If triggering one or more DataMan readers faster than this rate, the VisionView image update rate will be significantly impacted. If triggering one or more DataMan readers at even high trigger rates, or on a high-traffic Ethernet network, DataMan may eventually miss triggers. Added a Delete checkbox to the Job Control Options screen to allow the operator to delete DataMan configuration files. Added a User Name and Password authentication option to the Sensor Settings screen. If the user attempts to perform a restricted Run Mode action when this option is enabled, they are prompted to enter a user name and password, which must correspond with an existing user name and password on the sensor. This user name and password does not have to match the Sensor User Name and Sensor Password defined on the Sensor Settings screen. All Run Mode sensors will be forced to reconnect each time the user logs in/out of restricted access mode. Added a Display Settings screen for the VisionView VGA to configure the resolution of the attached display. If connecting the VisionView VGA to a touch screen, you can also enable touch screen operation, select the appropriate touch screen and, if needed, calibrate the touch screen. Added three Switch View options for the DataMan: image and read string view, statistics view and history view. Added the following Custom View and SmartLink table positions: Above Image and Right of Image. Added a DataMan Setup screen, allowing the operator to configure DataMan settings, save the current configuration settings to nonvolatile memory, configure the configuration file storage location (local or USB) and to reset all configuration parameters in RAM (volatile memory) to the default settings. Added a Reader Configuration screen to configure the DataMan Display, Filmstrip and Actions settings (Train Code, Untrain Code, Optimize Brightness, Learn Match String and Train Focus). Added a Camera Settings screen to configure the DataMan Exposure and Gain settings. Added an About Reader screen to display system information for the active DataMan reader. Added support for the In-Sight TrainFont interactive control. When pressed, the display switches to Font Training Mode, allowing the operator to train, view and modify the font using the OCV/OCR Font Training screens. Added support for the In-Sight EditMaskedRegion and EditPolylinePath interactive controls, allowing the composite region to be adjusted. Note: Only positioning of the entire composite region is supported from VisionView.

5 Changes & Fixes NOTE: Change Request numbers (CR#) have been included (where applicable) to improve tracking of Known Issues reported via Cognex Technical Support. When manually saving a filmstrip image, VisionView provides a default image name that now displays the default sequence number for the image name. (CR# 62603) If the VisionView settings are backed up to USB and the files are set to read-only, and then a restore operation is performed using the readonly backup files, any subsequent changes made to the VisionView settings are now properly retained. (CR# 63782) If the Idle Timeout expires while in Setup Mode, the Setup Mode controls are no longer temporarily hidden and VisionView will automatically transition to Run Mode. (CR# 63991)

6 Known Issues NOTE: Change Request numbers (CR#) have been included to improve tracking of Known Issues reported via Cognex Technical Support. Issue: There is a conflict when attempting to use the VisionView PC software and DMCC.NET (DataMan Configuration Commands) on the same PC. Please contact Cognex Technical Support for help resolving this conflict. (CR# 67454) Issue: If the VisionView Operator Interface Panel or VisionView VGA is connected to an In-Sight sensor with a Custom View or EasyView, and the operator attempts to enter an EditString containing Korean or Chinese characters, the characters will not be displayed or saved properly. (CR# 67309) Issue: If using a USB keyboard and the SLEEP key is pressed, the video output on the VisionView VGA may stop functioning properly. (CR# 67182) Workaround: Power-cycle the VisionView VGA. Issue: When in Font Training Mode, if the region is slightly bent, characters may not be properly segmented. (CR# 67102) Issue: A maximum of 10 DataMan configuration files can be saved to local storage. (CR# 66970) Workaround: Save configuration files to a USB drive. Issue: If the DataMan is disconnected from VisionView, the DataMan may miss triggers, have a slow connection to other VisionView devices or cause the VisionView user interface to become less responsive. (CR# & CR# 67073) Issue: If the DataMan Clear Statistics button is pressed, the statistics may not be properly reset. (CR# 67112) Issue: If the DataMan is in Burst trigger mode and the Transfer All Burst Images checkbox is checked in the DataMan Setup Tool, the pass/ fail status of the filmstrip image may not accurately reflect the pass/fail status of the read. (CR# 67222) Workaround: In the DataMan Setup tool, uncheck the Transfer All Burst Images checkbox. Issue: When connected to a DataMan that is triggering more than one read per second, it is recommended that the Online Mode Image Quality setting be set to Medium Speed and Medium Quality. (CR# 66884) Issue: The DataMan sensor may stop acquiring images for several seconds when attempting to save a configuration file to USB or when running the VisionView Maintenance Utility or In-Sight Explorer from a networked PC. (CR# 66661) Issue: If connected to an In-Sight sensor running a job that is graphic- or tool-intensive, the VisionView Operator Interface Panel may become unresponsive, timeout and automatically restart. (CR# 65218) Issue: If the VisionView PC software is initially launched from a user account with administrative privileges, then later launched from a user account with limited privileges, and a backup or restore operation is performed using the VisionView Maintenance Utility, the settings are backed up to the original user's Document and Settings folder, and the backup or restore operation cannot be performed. (CR# 63873) Issue: If the administrator transitions from Run Mode to Setup Mode and adds or removes sensors from the Selected Sensor List and reenters Run Mode, VisionView may attempt to connect to the sensors it previously connected to in Run Mode. (CR# 63389) Issue: If an FTP location (other than the built-in FTP server on an In-Sight or DVT sensor) is the specified location for saving filmstrip images, the images will not be properly saved. Workaround: Specify the built-in FTP server on the In-Sight or DVT sensor or a USB, network or file location for saving filmstrip images. (CR# 63002) Issue: If using a USB keyboard and the NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK or SCROLL LOCK key is pressed, the VisionView Operator Interface Panel may become unresponsive. (CR# 55003) Workaround: Unplug the USB keyboard, then plug it back in; VisionView should resume normal operation. Issue: If a DVT sensor has a SmartLink table defined and the filmstrip is frozen, the most recent SmartLink table is displayed, rather than the SmartLink table that was active when the highlighted image was originally acquired. (CR# 59774) Issue: If more than one VisionView device is attempting to connect to the same In-Sight sensor, the connection to the sensor may not be established by any of the devices; the connection status message will improperly state that one of the other VisionView devices is already logged onto the sensor. (CR# 62738) Workaround: Forcibly interrupt the connection by logging onto the sensor using In-Sight Explorer. Once the connection is established in In- Sight Explorer, log off of the sensor. Issue: If using the Cognex Software Licensing Center to backup or restore an installed license file and the directory path for the backup or restore location contains non-ansi characters, the backup or restore operation will fail. (CR# 62911) Workaround: Ensure that the directory path for the backup or restore location only contains ANSI characters. Issue: If a USB drive is connected to VisionView as VisionView is attempting to save an image file, the save operation will fail, the AutoSave Failure icon may not be displayed and the USB drive may not be detected until VisionView is power-cycled. (CR# 63076) Workaround: If possible, place the sensor Offline (to prevent automatic saving of failed inspection images) and do not attempt to manually save a filmstrip image. Then, connect the USB drive and ensure that the USB drive is fully initialized before placing the sensor back Online. Issue: If the operator presses a ListBox interactive control from an In-Sight Custom View, and the ListBox contains a string with more characters than will fit on the screen, the controls may not be drawn properly and VisionView may appear unresponsive. (CR# 63312) Issue: If an In-Sight spreadsheet cell contains a function with an associated cell graphic that extends beyond the image, the graphic may appear distorted from VisionView. (CR# 55546) Workaround: Ensure that the associated cell graphic does not extend beyond the image.

7 Issue: When VisionView is initially powered up, or if the factory default settings have been restored, any In-Sight Micro sensor directly connected to a Vision Sensor port may not be automatically detected and displayed in the Selected Sensors list. (CR# 55323) Workaround: In the VisionView application, navigate to the Setup screen and click the Auto Select Sensors button several times. Issue: When a sensor is added to the Selected Sensors list, the default Display Name chosen by VisionView is the sensor's network name. If the sensor's network name is changed using In-Sight Explorer or Intellect, it does not properly update in the VisionView application and the original Display Name remains in effect. If using a DVT sensor, a connection to the sensor can no longer be established from the VisionView application. (CR# 52770) Workaround: Remove the sensor from the Selected Sensors list and then re-add the sensor to the Selected Sensors list. Issue: If filmstrip images are being saved to a network location and the network cable is unplugged from VisionView, once the network cable is plugged back in, the operator may be prompted to re-enter the File or FTP User Name, File or FTP Password and Windows User Domain. (CR# 55450) Issue: If incorrect credentials are entered for the File or FTP User Name, File or FTP Password or Windows User Domain fields, the operator will be prompted to reenter the correct credentials. If the prompt is displayed for more than two minutes, VisionView will automatically restart. (CR# 54280) Issue: If the VisionView PC software is restored to the factory defaults settings, sensor-specific settings are not restored to their factory defaults until the application is restarted. (CR# 63757) Workaround: After restoring the VisionView PC software to the factory default settings, restart the application. Issue: If VisionView is connected to a DVT sensor with a SmartLink table defined for the current product, when the Switch View button is clicked, VisionView properly displays the SmartLink table. If another product (with no defined SmartLink tables) is loaded to the sensor while the current view is still active, when the Switch View button is clicked, VisionView will display an error message stating, "Unable to create sensor view." (CR# 63857) Workaround: Transition from Run Mode to Setup Mode, then re-enter Run Mode.
