1 N7624B Signal Studio for LTE Technical Overview Easily Create Sophisticated LTE Test Waveforms 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) defines improvements to UMTS to provide increased system efficiency, including higher data rates and lower latency. Signal Studio for LTE enables you to create spectrally-correct test waveforms that comply with 3GPP requirements for this emerging technology. Use these waveforms to measure EVM, PAPR, ACLR and SEM performance of LTE system RF components such as power amplifiers, antennas, and filters. 2 Licensing Options To play waveforms created with this Signal Studio software, a valid license must be installed on your signal generator. Early Release The early release of Signal Studio for LTE uses special licensing: N7624B SW1 1FP and EFP (Fixed, perpetual license with basic capability for the E4438C ESG signal generator) N7624B SW3 3FP and EFP (Fixed, perpetual license with basic capability for the N5182A MXG signal generator) Final Release The following information applies only to the final release of the software. Refer to the Licensing topic in the online documentation for detailed licensing information and an easy-to-use Configuration Assistant that clearly describes the options that will best meet your testing needs. Fixed and Transportable Licenses A fixed license is tied to a specific signal generator; a transportable license enables you to transfer connectivity between multiple signal generators of the same model, up to 10 times per month, one signal generator at a time. Time-based Licenses Time-based licenses are available for time periods of 1, 3, 6, or 12 months, and can be combined with either fixed or transportable licenses. 2

4 Recommended Configuration Signal Generator N5182A MXG Configuration Firmware revision A or later The following N5182A MXG options are required: N5182A-503 (250 khz to 3 GHz frequency range) N5182A-654 (Internal baseband generator, 125 MSa/sec) N5182A-019 (64 MSa memory) required in multi-carrier configuration The following N5182A MXG option is recommended: N5182A-403 (calibrated AWGN) for testing with noise E4438C ESG-C Firmware revision C or later The following E4438C ESG-C options are required: E4438C-503 (250 khz to 3 GHz frequency range) E4438C-602 (Internal baseband generator, 64 MSa memory) The following E4438C-ESG-C options are recommended: E4438C-601 (Internal baseband generator, 8 MSa memory) recommended in a single carrier configuration E4438C-403 (calibrated AWGN) for testing with noise 4
