2 Moving forward with WiMAX and WLAN WiMAX is a fast-emerging technology for wireless broadband access based on the IEEE standard. WLAN is a wireless local area network that has multiple versions of the standard; a, b, g and n, each version brings new designs to market. Manufacturers who are testing user equipment for both WiMAX and WLAN markets require instruments that are standard-compliant and optimized for today s competitive, high-volume production environment. The Agilent N8300A Wireless Networking Test Set is just the solution to meet WiMAX and WLAN challenges. This one-box, RF parametric test set offers superior specifications and fast test times to increase manufacturing throughput. The companion Agilent N630XA measurement applications, which run on the test set, ensure fast and accurate analysis of WiMAX and WLAN signals. Designed for use with Agilent s N8300A Wireless Networking Test Set, the N7300 series Chipset Software provides control, calibration and test of WiMAX and WLAN devices and modules. The architecture of the N8300A test set integrates Agilent s stateof-the-art vector signal analyzer and vector signal generator hardware. The test set has an easy-to-use, front panel graphical user interface, and SCPI command set. Measurement algorithms and software are leveraged form WiMAX and WLAN R&D test tools, allowing fast test development and measurement traceability across the product lifecycle. The flexible N8300A architecture is ready for expansion and upgrade as the standard evolves and test requirements change. Instrument-grade hardware and software, fast test times without compromising measurement accuracy and repeatability, plus reliability and ease of use these all add up to higher yields in manufacturing and a lower cost of test. 3 Designed for speed in manufacturing In an environment that counts time in fractions of a second, the N8300A Wireless Networking Test Set helps manufacturers reach their throughput and time-to-market goals. Designed in consultation with a leading developer of WiMAX and WLAN technologies, the N8300A does not compromise on speed or performance. Fast test plan execution The test set s proven vector signal analyzer and vector signal generator hardware has been optimized to meet stringent demands for speed, accuracy, repeatability, and uptime. Tight integration of the hardware allows simultaneous transmit and receive measurement to further reduce test time. Benchmarking against comparable test solutions demonstrates the superior performance of the N8300A. Simple setup with non-link-based transmitter and receiver measurements enables fast test times Greatest device throughput With option 404 (MIMO/Multi-port Connectivity) only the N8300A has Broadcast mode, providing parallel, multiple device-under-test (DUT) receiver calibration and test. Broadcast mode can transmit the same signal from all four ports (RF In/Out 1 to 4) simultaneously, individually or any other permutation. Notably full high output power is always available on all ports under all permutations. 6 Rapid test development With Agilent s application-specific measurements, embedded WiMAX and WLAN waveforms, and SCPI programmability, developing a test plan is faster too. Test developers can try out various measurement sequences using the push-button simplicity of the test set s front panel and viewing results on the graphical display. Software tools The N8300A is compatible with popular Agilent software tools such as Signal Studio, which is used to create and download WiMAX and WLAN waveform files. Alternatively, manufacturers can use other standard tools such as MATLAB for custom waveform creation and analysis. The open Windows XP Professional operating system allows remote troubleshooting and control of the N8300A via Windows Remote Desktop from anywhere in the world. 8 Automated design verification Because the N8300A reuses source waveforms and measurement algorithms from Agilent s industry-leading WiMAX and WLAN R&D tools, measurements are consistent and traceable throughout the product life cycle. That enables a faster time-tomarket and also makes the test set a useful tool for automated design verification. Test developers can choose from the comprehensive set of WiMAX and WLAN measurements included with the N8300A to create a verification test plan that is based on measurements used in R&D and is aligned with the test plan used in manufacturing. Fast troubleshooting To keep production lines moving and minimize rework, the N8300A performs all the transmitter and receiver measurements needed for fast in-band troubleshooting of WiMAX and WLAN devices. Troubleshooting is more efficient, because the friendly user interface makes measurement functions available with the press of a key or a SCPI command, and results are immediately viewable on the display.
