4 SAFETY CAUTIONS Please read the following chapter completely and with care and follow the instructions described below. In this way, the correct functioning and the long duration of the MP3 Player is guaranteed. Please keep the present instructions at a safe place. Kindly pass the instructions on to any new owner of the device if you should sell the device or give it away as a gift. If you should need any additional help and support please contact the service helpline accordingly. SAFE USE Protect the device from jolts, dust, heat and do not expose it to direct sunlight in order to avoid problems. Do not open the cover: this would cause the forfeit of the guarantee and the eventual destruction of the device. Do not allow children to play with electrical devices without the proper supervision by an adult, as children are not able to evaluate real dangers. 4 SAFETY CAUTIONS

5 In case of transport wait until the device is suited to the environmental temperature before putting it into operation. In case of significant thermal variations or damp, it is possible that the forming of condensation occurs which can cause short circuits. Before the transport, close the cover of the USB socket. Use only the USB cable supplied with the device. The present device should be used only with computers equipped with protection on the feeding entries. (Limited Power Source according to EN60950). ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC) When you connect the device, follow the directives on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). To avoid the risk of damage and the loss of data, put the device to at least one meter of distance from high frequency and magnetic sources of interferences (TV, loudspeakers, mobile phones. etc.) SAFETY CAUTIONS 5

6 CLEANING Be careful that the MP3 Player does not get dirty. Do not use solvents or spray corrosive cleansers. If necessary, clean the cover with a damp cloth and wipe it dry afterwards. Caution! Your Digital MP3 Player does not contain components to be maintained or cleaned. LEGAL CAUTION: The MP3 Player can only be used to copy or code music tracks of which the user owns the copyrights or for which he has purchased or has been given the right of use from the holder of the copyrighter. The user who violates these rights is prosecutable according to the laws and/or subject to claims from the holder of the rights. 7 FILE FORMATS This MP3 Player supports the following file formats: Mode Playback Record Format - MP3 - WMA (Windows Media Audio)* - WAV (in connection with the Digital Voice Recorder ) - Digital Voice Recorder: WAV * WMA files can be obtained with Windows Media Player Version 7.0 or higher. 9 GETTING STARTED INSERTING BATTERIES This device is operated using a 1.5V AAA type battery. Open the battery compartment by lifting the small cover on the back of the MP3 Player. Insert the battery (observe the polarity!) Close the battery compartment. It is recommended to use alkaline batteries. NiMH batteries or batteries of higher capacity are also suitable. Please observe the safety advice on batteries (page 23). RESETTING THE MP3 PLAYER If your MP3 Player does not respond properly (e.g. because of incorrect input, error in the data transmission, static discharge) proceed as follows: 1. Disconnect all connection cables 2. Remove the battery and insert it again. 3. Turn on your MP3 Player. GETTING STARTED 9

12 TURNING ON/TURNING OFF OF MP3 PLAYER To start the MP3 Player, press and keep pressed the Power On key [1] for two seconds. Now the device is in the playback mode. The MP3 Player turns off automatically after some time when not in use in order to save energy. (This does not happen in the playback mode and in the pause function.) To turn off the MP3 Player, hold down / press the Power Off key [1] for two seconds. HOLD The MP3 Player is provided with a lock function [10] that prevents the unintentional activation of a key. This function is useful if you listen to music whilst keeping the device in the carry pouch or pocket. ON slide switch = key lock OFF slide switch= unlock keys When the lock function is on, a key appears on the display, the device ignores any given command. VOLUME ADJUSTMENT To adjust the volume press the provided keys [9 = Vol- / 8 = Vol+]. The display will show the carried out adjustment. 12 CONTROLS AND COMMANDS

13 CONNECTION OF EARPHONES Stereo earphones are included in deliver. Insert the earphone plug into the appropriate socket of your MP3 Player. Caution: Listening to music with very high volume can cause permanent damage to your ears. Before starting playback, adjust the volume to the lowest level, then start the playback and adjust the volume to the desired intensity. PLAYBACK / PAUSE After turning on the MP3 Player press briefly key [1] to playback a track. To halt the playback, press key [1] again. To start the playback again, press key [1] again. (For the instructions about the data loading onto the MP3 Player, read from page 18 onwards.) RECORDING While the player has been changed to voice mode, press REC / EQ button to trigger live recording. Press it again to terminate recording. CONTROLS AND COMMANDS 13

14 TRACK SELECTION FAST FORWARD Press and hold (FF button to trigger fastforward searching while playing. REWIND Press and hold (Rew) button to trigger rewind searching while playing. SELECTING FILES Press (FF) or (Rew) buttons and release within 1.5 seconds to select the next or previous voice file in the on board flash memory. OP While the player is not operating (idle), press OP button to switch between this playback sequences: Symbol NO SIGNS Description Sequential playback Repeating on-going song playback. All Shuffle Shuffle All Repeating playing all songs in the on board flash. Randomly playing all songs in the on board flash and memory card once. Randomly playing all songs in the on board flash and memory card continually 14 CONTROLS AND COMMANDS

15 EQUALIZER Press REC/EQ button to select the next equalizer modes for music playback. Selection cycle in the sequence: A - B CLIPPING Once the MP3 Player is in the process of playback, press OP button to trigger A B clipping function and set the start point, press it again to set the end point of A B clipping and start playing the selected content. While the selected content has been clipped, press OP button to cancel A B clipping and resume playback. NOTE: You can only clip the content within single voice file. CONTROLS AND COMMANDS 15

16 FM RADIO MODE KEY DEFINITION FOR FM FUNCTION Nr. Keys Description (1) / - Selecting the preset channels - Set the selected channel - Press for 3 seconds to turn on/off the player (2) MODE Switch between music playback, FM radio and voice mode (3) REW - Press and hold for 2 seconds to select the previous station. - Press and release to adjust frequency by 50 KHz (4) FF - Press and hold for 2 seconds to select the next station. - Press and release to adjust frequency by 50 KHz (5) REC/EQ - Record FM source in FM mode (6) OP/A-B - Press to start presetting channels. (7) VOL + Volume UP (8) VOL - Volume DOWN (9) HOLD Slide switch to avoid unintentional touch 16 CONTROLS AND COMMANDS

17 HOW TO LISTEN TO FM RADIO If you want to enable the FM radio function, just need to press the MODE button to switch to FM mode. Then you will see the FM display show up. Preset channel 1. Select a desired channel. 2. Press OP button to start presetting. 3. While FM-Save is shown on the display, press FF or REW button to choose the appointed channel and then press the play button to finish the presetting. Note: you just can set up to 20 channels. FM RADIO RECORDING 1. Select a desired channel. 2. Press REC button to start recording. 3. Press REC button again to stop recording. CONTROLS AND COMMANDS 17

18 CONNECTING TO YOUR PC Important: You do not need to install any driver when you are using Windows ME/2000/XP Operating System. When you connect the MP3 Player to the computer via the supplied USB cable, the device is recognized and installed automatically. 1. INSTALLATION OF THE MP3 PLAYER TO THE PC (Only for Windows 98) To install the software: Caution! During the installation of the software it is possible that some important files are overwritten or modified. To have access to the original files in case of problems that arise after installation, it is advisable to create a back up of the hard disk contents. 1. Insert the supplied Driver CD ROM. The driver for Windows 98 is located at: <DISC-DRIVE>:\Audio\Multiformat\Flash\Drivers. 18 CONNECTING TO YOUR PC

19 2. CONNECTING TO THE COMPUTER 1. Insert the end with the small connector of the USB cable supplied with the MP3 Player. 2. Turn on the MP3 player. 3. Insert the other end of the USB cable into the socket of the computer. On the MP3 Player display, USB connected will appear. USB-Port 4. The computer will now recognize that a new device has been connected. (The PC might prompt you for the installation of the driver software.) Only unplug the USB cable when downloading procedure is completed. Do not unplug the USB cable when the LCD is still displaying USB writing as doing so may corrupt the files stored in the player an you will need to reformat the MP3 Player with your Windows Explorer. 20 3. PC/MP3 PLAYER EXCHANGE The new driver enables the file movement as you wish, it will therefore be possible to copy your favourite track onto the MP3 Player or transfer files to the MP3 Player and use it as portable data support. However, the MP3 Player only accepts files in MP3 and WMA format. 1. Click in your explorer on the track you want to copy or transfer to the MP3 Player. 2. Drag the track to the MP3 Player that has been recognised as a drive (Removable Disc) and let it drop accordingly: Drag & Drop. FORMATTING YOUR MP3 PLAYER Attention: Formatting will erase all files on your MP3 Player. In the unlikely event of improper file exchange between your MP3 Player and your computer you might need to restructure the MP3 Player s file system. This can be performed by formatting the MP3 Player. You can do this easily with your Windows Explorer using the FAT16 option. Your MP3 Player comes with an additional formatting tool on your CD located at: <DISC-DRIVE>:\Audio\Multiformat\Flash. 20 CONNECTING TO YOUR PC

21 CUSTOMER SERVICE TROUBLE SHOOTING The PC does not recognize the MP3 Player: Check the installation (page 18 and following. Is the driver installed?). Is the batteries fully charged? Check the connections of the cable and of the device. From Windows Control Panel, check if the MP3 Player is installed correctly. Eventually install the USB controller again. Cancel the other USB peripherals as a test. In the MP3 Player, the files are not shown correctly: The MP3 Player does not display the name of the file but its own coded information with an ID tag. Files cannot be downloaded onto the MP3 Player: Is the battery fully charged? Reset (page 9). Is the USB connection between the MP3 Player and PC activated? Reformat (page 20). CUSTOMER SERVICE 21

22 The titles are not shown with the correct sequence: Check that the playback mode is set correctly (page 13). Is the USB connection between MP3 Player and the PC activated? Reset (page 9). IS FURTHER ASSISTANCE NECESSARY? If the suggestions listed above are not enough to resolve the problem, then contact us. The following information will help us to help you resolve the problem: - Configuration of the computer. - Added peripherals to be used. - Messages that appear on the display. - Program that was being used when the problem arose. - Solutions you have tried for the resolution of the problem. 22 CUSTOMER SERVICE

23 BATTERIES AND PROPER TREATMENT Batteries may contain combustible materials. By misuse, this may cause battery leakage, heat, explosion or ignition, bringing about injury or damage to the device. Please observe strictly the following matters: - KEEP CHILDREN AWAY from batteries. If by any chance, the batteries are swallowed, consult a doctor immediately. - DO NOT CHARGE batteries (except rechargeable batteries). - DO NOT FORCIBLY DISCHARGE batteries. - DO NOT SHORT-CIRCUIT batteries. - DO NOT HEAT or DISPOSE OFF IN FIRE. - DO NOT DISASSEMBLE or DEFORM batteries. Your hands and fingers may be injured, or the liquid of the battery may get into your eyes or adhere to your skin. If this happens, rinse with a large quantity of water immediately and consult a doctor. - DO NOT expose batteries to strong impact by dropping or throwing the batteries. - DO NOT reverse the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals to avoid short-circuit. 24 - Do NOT MIX used and new or different types of batteries together. Your equipment may not operate properly. In addition, the battery exhausted first may be excessively drained (over-discharged). - REMOVE PROMPTLY the used batteries from the device. - REPLACE ALL BATTERIES with new batteries of the same type at the same time. - INSULATE THE TERMINAL parts with tape or the like at the storage or disposal of the batteries. - DO NOT throw rundown batteries in the domestic refuses! Respect the environment and throw them in the specific containers for separate collection. If necessary, turn to your reseller or to our service assistance. Thank you! The receipt is considered valid proof of purchase and should be kept in a safe place. This receipt will be required for receiving any warranty service. This warranty is transferable. When transferring ownership to a third party, please provide the receipt and warranty information. Our company warrants to the end user that each product, including related software, accessories, media and supplies, shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship for twelve months from date of purchase. This warranty covers only those defects that arise as a result of normal use of the product. This warranty does not cover any other problems, including problems that arise as a result of improper maintenance or modification; software, accessories, media or supplies not provided or supported by the supplier; or operation outside the manufacturer s specifications. Any part of this MP3 Player repaired or exchanged by a valid service representative will be covered under the original warranty period. Back up all programs and data before shipping this Notebook for repair under the warranty agreement. Do not leave any media in the disk drives. Products shipped without accessories will be returned without accessories.
