2 TeamSpeak is a social voice platform that offers BVA members a supplementary means of connecting. The server is available on an optional basis, with no requirement to use TeamSpeak to communicate with ATC or fly within the server. If you choose to login to TeamSpeak while flying, please use the In the Air channels to help ensure that TeamSpeak does not become a distraction from the safe operation of the airplane. While using the In the Air channels, pilots should be respectful towards the priority of communication with ATC. During critical phases of flight such as takeoff, landing, and taxi, pilots are encouraged to move to the Sterile Cockpit channel (where nobody is permitted to speak) to avoid distractions from aviating, navigating, and communicating. The Member TeamSpeak is accessible to all members. Like our forums, communications through TeamSpeak are governed by BVA s Member Expectations. Members are expected to act professionally, maturely, and respectfully at all times. This version of the guide was created in January 2018 and is based on Version of TeamSpeak (the current version of TeamSpeak at the time). 1. Navigate to the TeamSpeak website. 2. Select from either the 32-bit or 64-bit client (the first two downloads). If needed, view instructions for determining which version of Windows you have. 3. Follow the instructions and prompts to download and install the program.

3 1. Once installed, open the program. The Setup Wizard appears. If the Setup Wizard does not come up automatically, you can open it by choosing Settings > Setup Wizard. 2. Click Next to move to the first screen. Use your full name as your nickname (e.g., John Smith). 3. Click Next. 4. On the Microphone Settings screen, choose the Push-to-Talk option and set a Pushto-Talk key. Make sure the key you select is different than the key in FSX. The key you use is entirely your choice. Many members choose to use the CTRL (Left Control) key.

4 5. Click Next. 6. Test your microphone. If the microphone doesn t work, it s possible the wrong device is active. This can be changed after completing the wizard. 7. When you have finished testing, click Next.

5 8. Recommended: Configure a Speaker Mute key binding. This will allow you to quickly mute the audio in TeamSpeak by using a key command. 9. Click Next. 10. Select your desired sound pack, and then click Next.

6 11. On the final screen, un-check all options, then click Finish.

7 12. Choose Settings > Options. 13. When the Options window appears, click on the Capture tab. Check to ensure the correct capture device is selected, and that Push-to-Talk is chosen.

8 14. Check Advanced Options, then select all of the options under that section.

9 15. The Voice Activation Detection while using Push-To-Talk option will activate your microphone whenever you are speaking with the Push-to-Talk key selected. Click Start Test, then use the slider to select an appropriate level for the voice activation detection: 16. Click Apply.

10 17. Click the Playback tab. 18. Select the desired Playback Device using the drop-down menu. The Play Test Sound button will enable you to test the chosen device. When finished, click Ok to close the Options window.

11 The steps below provide instructions for creating a Bookmark and connecting to Boston Virtual ARTCC s Member TeamSpeak server. The same instructions can be used to connect to a different server, substituting the connection information with that of the different server. 1. Click on Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks. 2. Click the Add Bookmark button. A New Server appears. 3. Label the server as desired (we suggest Boston Virtual ARTCC ). 4. Enter the Server Nickname and Server Password for the server. For the Member TeamSpeak server, this information can be found on the Member TeamSpeak page of the website. The password does change occasionally.

12 5. If you wish, you can select the Connect on Startup option under More to automatically login to the server when TeamSpeak is opened. 1. Once all the settings have been entered, click Ok. 2. Finally, click Bookmarks, then click on the name of the server you just added to connect.

13 Remember, the Member TeamSpeak password occasionally. When the Member TeamSpeak password is changed, update the password in your bookmark. 1. Click on Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks.

14 2. In the window that appears, click on the server you wish to update. Then, enter the new password into the Server Password field. 3. Click on Ok to save the changes. The most common reasons users are unable to connect to the TeamSpeak server is because connection information (i.e., address and/or password) is not entered correctly.
