COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 2 INFORMATION YOU NEED FOR A SUCCESSFUL MONITORING INSTALLATION Correct installation of a monitoring system requires expertise in both electrical wiring and web communications, making it a complicated procedure. Over the years DECK Monitoring has deployed and supported thousands of systems. We have created this guide to help you prepare for your installation and avoid many common problems that can occur during the installation process. This guide contains instructions for your installation, but also crucial s to prepare for installation that you must read and follow to ensure a successful procedure. Read this document and all applicable appendices before you go to the project site! Please pay close attention to all notes accompanied by the triangular icon with an exclamation mark. This icon indicates instructions and other information of particular importance to the monitoring installation process. DECK Monitoring is not responsible for the installation of the monitoring system, which must be installed by a licensed electrician. In no event will DECK be liable for any damages, including personal injury, arising out of or related to any of the following: the installation of the monitoring system; the security of Customer s network or the devices placed on the Customer s network (including the AcquiSuite); any failure of the Hardware; unauthorized use of or access to the software service; or Internet connectivity. For a full description of DECK s Terms and Conditions, including the warranty provisions, please visit this web page:
Correct functioning in a monitoring system depends upon 5 sets of factors: 1. Software: once your system hardware is communicating to our servers, our servers must be available to provide you access to our web application. DECK Monitoring is responsible for providing high uptime on our server network. 2. Hardware: all hardware sourced by DECK Monitoring is covered by warranty from the manufacturer. DECK passes this coverage on to our customers. DECK will provide light remote support to troubleshoot hardware devices that we source. However, ultimate responsibility in issues of hardware performance rests with the device manufacturer. 3. Installation: DECK Monitoring provides information about installation in good faith, but DECK is not responsible for installation. Installation and electrical wiring should be done by a licensed electrician who has experience working with energy monitoring equipment. 4. Web Communication: proper web communications rely on a wide range of factors relating to the local network at the project site. In some cases web communications may rely upon correct functioning of a cellular modem (see Hardware). DECK Monitoring is not responsible for web communications. Issues related to web communications should be directed to the party responsible for the local network connection. 5. Commissioning: All monitoring systems require a thorough commissioning process to ensure that the software display accurately reflects data readings at the project site. It is the customer s responsibility to conduct these verification procedures. In case of discrepancies, contact DECK support for assistance to troubleshoot and complete the commissioning process. please see full legal Terms and Conditions of Sale online:

Troubleshoot any connection issues with an IT agent in service of the host network. 8 Verify that system data is displaying accurately on your web pages. Report any issues and customization requests to support@deckmonitoring.com. 9 Review software user guides. Set alarm features and user management settings as desired.
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 7 Installation and Configuration Important Notes to Prepare DECK Monitoring will deploy a basic Dashboard and Admin Panel for the customer prior to installation. This makes your installation process much easier, faster, and means that most of the software configuration work will be done by the time you install the equipment. DECK will pre-configure your web displays based on the information you provide in the site survey. (Only components provided by DECK can be pre-deployed. Devices configured in the field can only be deployed by DECK after the installation.) Final commissioning of the software occurs once the hardware is reporting and includes customer working with DECK support staff to verify that the software displays match your onsite configuration. DECK Monitoring will provide limited remote support if issues arise during the installation process. Customer Responsibilities: Receive DECK shipment and make sure that all items arrived and have not been damaged during shipment. Watch all applicable DECK training videos, read applicable DECK manuals, read all associated vendor manuals for hardware purchased. Contract with a competent, certified, and licensed electrician to install equipment. (continued on page 7)
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 8 Customer Responsibilities (continued): Customer is advised to consult with a web network specialist in order to successfully connect the system to the local web network. Ideally this should be an IT agent employed in service of the local network. If this is not possible, it may be necessary to contract with a third party to provide this service. Your network specialist should have an understanding of basic networking and internet connectivity, as well as static and dynamic IP addressing. Ideally this specialist will be able to connect to the DAS IP address through the local area network (LAN) for configuration changes that may be required. The AcquiSuite must be able to access DECK data servers (at via port 80, which is the standard web port used by any browser. It also requires access to its preprogrammed external timeserver via rdate (port 37) or NTP (port 123) protocol. Alternatively the DAS can be configured to use a local time server. Troubleshoot any local network firewalls that may prevent this. Electricians should confirm devices are reporting correctly in the field. They should compare multimeter readings to live data from the DAS and are responsible for confirming the devices are providing accurate information through the DAS.
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 9 Materials Needed for Installation: Installer should bring the following materials to assist in the installation process: Laptop computer Digital multimeter Wire and conduit necessary for installation Small flathead and phillips head screwdrivers Ethernet patch cable A small router or hub Network Information Needed for Configuration: Installers will need the following list of items before starting the configuration process: Valid IP address for your network Subnet Mask Gateway IP address DNS IP address If you need assistance to complete the items on the list above, contact your local network Administrator.
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 10 Common Issues: Customer is Unable to Establish Web Communications: There are many reasons why it may be difficult to establish web communications with your monitoring system, including firewalls and other security software in the local network. Unfortunately, DECK Monitoring has no control over the Internet connection at your project site, and we have limited ability to troubleshoot Internet connectivity issues. For best results these issues should be coordinated with an on-site IT representative or directly by the customer. System Web Communications are Interrupted: DECK Monitoring has no power to maintain the Internet connection at the project site... if the DAS loses Internet connectivity the customer is responsible to restore the connection. Monitoring Data is Flawed Due to Faulty Installation: Please take special care to correctly install voltage taps and CT leads. Electrician should consult meter documentation to ensure correct connections, and confirm readings in the DAS. Customers with concerns regarding their ability to properly install the equipment may consider contracting for DECK installation services, available anywhere in the continental U.S. and Puerto Rico. For more information, contact your DECK sales representative.
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 11 Core Package Hardware a. Revenue Grade Meter 1 Supplying Reference Voltage: 2 For a standard 480V 3-phase system each of the three hot conductors must be tapped to supply reference voltage to the meter (16-18 AWG wire is recommended). Attaching your CTs: Each CT should be placed on a load carrying conductor and wired to the corresponding CT input on the meter. Each CT will indicate which side should face the source. In PV applications, the source is the inverter. Please see CT wiring instructions on pages 11 & Wire the Output Connections: The revenue grade meter has 3 RS-485 Modbus terminals that need to be connected to the AcquiSuite RS-485 terminals: positive, negative, and ground. If the revenue grade meter is the only Modbus device, simply connect it directly to the AcquiSuite s modbus inputs. Signals to AcquiSuite Fig. 1 diagram shows Elkor meter. If you are installing a meter from another manufacturer (such as Veris), please consult documentation from the manufacturer. Four-Wire (Wye), wiring diagram fig. 1

COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 15 d. AcquiSuite Configuration 4 DECK recommends, but does not require, that you work with your IT department on site to enable remote access to the AcquiSuite unit. This will allow a DECK representative to remotely configure and assist with troubleshooting your AcquiSuite directly. Your AcquiSuite will automatically attempt to find a DHCP server and retrieve an IP address. For most applications this will be sufficient. If your network requires a static IP see Appendix 1:Static IP. To change your password click on Accounts in the left pane to expand the list. Now click on the Admin user to get to the Login Settings page. By clicking on Change Your Password you can change your password from the default. (fig. 11) fig. 9 1 When the AcquiSuite has found an acceptable IP address it will display it on the embedded LCD screen. On any computer on the same network as the AcquiSuite, open a web browser and direct it to the IP address that the AcquiSuite displays. You will be greeted by the AcquiSuite-Data Acquisition Server page (fig. 9). 2 Click on the link. You will be asked for your login credentials: name and password. The login ID user name is admin. For your network security DECK has begun setting a non-default password. This password is deckxxxx where XXXX are the last 4 characters of your AcquiSuite serial number. For installers in the field, the s/n can be displayed on the AcquiSuite LCD by using the menu/select buttons to navigate to Data Upload -> Show Serial Number. 3 Now that you ve logged in you will be redirected the Welcome page. On the left is the navigation pane where you will choose which area of the AcquiSuite you wish to configure. The right pane in the Welcome page displays information about different areas and allows you to change settings. (fig. 10) fig. 10 fig. 11
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 16 5 Next, open the Modbus list and click on Device List. Here you will find a list of all your active Modbus devices. Check this list against the list of Modbus devices on your network. Verify that the status for every device is listed as OK and that the type of device is correct. (fig. 12) 6 Now you can give your devices logical names to help in reporting and further troubleshooting. Choose your first device and click on its Modbus ID (listed under Device column). (fig.13) fig Scroll down to the bottom of the page, (the length of page is determined by device type), and click on Configure. In the Device Name field enter a logical name that will help you to identify the device. Repeat for each device that you have in the Modbus loop. (fig.14) fig At this point you have successfully configured your AcquiSuite. The only now is to push your data to DECK Monitoring servers and call DECK at (503) To forward your data, expand the Log File Data and choose Setup/Upload. Click on Upload Data Now and your upload will commence. Clicking on View Transfer Log will let you watch the transfer progress as data is transfered from your local AcquiSuite to the DECK servers. 18 COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 18 1 b. AcquiSuite Security Overview DECK Monitoring is not responsible for the security of the owner s network or the devices placed on the owner s network, including the AcquiSuite. The following information is provided in good faith and as recommended standard security measures. The owner of the system is responsible for implementing acceptable security standards. Usernames and Passwords: The AcquiSuite has three usernames with unique levels of security. These are operator, user and admin. admin: this account has full access to modify any of the system settings. The login ID user name is admin. For your network security DECK has begun setting a non-default password. This password is deckxxxx where XXXX are the last 4 characters of your AcquiSuite serial number. For installers in the field, the s/n can be displayed on the AcquiSuite LCD by using the menu/select buttons to navigate to Data Upload -> Show Serial Number. operator: this account may view settings, however may only change modbus alarm ranges and device names The operator and user accounts are disabled by default. These accounts are activated when you first set a password for each. When using a browser to access the AcquiSuite, basic http authentication is used to prompt your browser for a username and password. Use the same user name and password as when accessing the AcquiSuite directly. When using FTP to access the AcquiSuite, you may use the admin account username/password for readonly access. Log information is stored in /var/log/ modbus. For read-write-delete access, use the login name root and the admin password. Changing Passwords: Passwords can be changed by logging into the AcquiSuite. Under the navigation section on the left hand side of the screen click Accounts. This expands three options: Admin, Operator, User. Clicking on one of these accounts brings up the option to reset that account password. Click the Change Password button to set a new password for the selected account. DECK strongly recommends resetting the Admin password for security reasons. There is no easy password retrieval method, so be sure to retain access to all passwords for any future troubleshooting. user: this account can view some system settings, including the modbus device status pages, but can change nothing The three usernames specified are not able to be changed or renamed, nor can arbitrary usernames be added to the AcquiSuite. Access is only controlled by setting the password for the three existing usernames noted above. 2 Closing Ports 21 and 23: By default access to port 21 and 23 are open on the AcquiSuite. These can be closed by logging into the AcquiSuite. Navigate to Network/Setup. Near the bottom of the option list there are two check boxes, one for Allow Telnet logins (port 23), and one for Allow FTP logins (port 21). To close access to either of these ports, uncheck the associated check box.
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 19 3 Firewalls and Data Transfer: Time Server: The AcquiSuite and AcquiLite upload data using a standard HTTP web browser transaction to a database enabled webserver. From the perspective of a firewall, this transaction looks identical to any web browser activity to an offsite website. The default time server feature default is buildingmanageronline.com. This may cause the system to attempt a non-webbrowser connection through the firewall. To prevent this, change the time server setting to a local NTP or Rdate server. Webserver Uploads: From a more technical perspective, the AcquiSuite will open a TCP connection to the remote website/ database server on port 80 as an outbound connection. Data transferred over the TCP connection is a standard HTTP/POST transaction. The target website address and URL are user-configurable on the AcquiSuite. To prevent the system from attempting to upload data to a webserver, you can disable the data upload feature. To do this, use the AcquiSuite web page configuration. Select the Log File Data section from the left side menu. Pick Setup/upload option. In the right side panel, locate the field Target address to upload data. Remove the URL from this field (i.e. the target address field should be blank). In addition, the AcquiSuite may use an HTTP proxy server. To enable this, set the HTTP server and port features in the networking setup configuration page of the AcquiSuite or AcquiLite. To do this, use the AcquiSuite web page configuration. Select the System section from the left side menu. Pick the Date and time option. On the right side panel, locate the field Time Server. Change the address of the time server to a local server, or leave the field blank. NTP uses UDP port 123. Rdate uses TCP port 37. For systems behind a firewall, it is usually easiest to configure the system to use a local NTP time server and not route traffic through the firewall. DNS Server: Our AcquiSuites are shipped with the default DNS server Firmware Updates: Use the AcquiSuite web page configuration. Select the System section from the left side menu. Pick the Firmware Version option. In the right side panel, the current firmware version number will be listed. At the bottom of the page, a button titled Check for upgrades will be present. Clicking on this button will cause the AcquiSuite to connect to the buildingmanageronline.com website (port 80). The firmware will be downloaded using a standard HTTP browser based transaction, the same way as log data is uploaded to an offsite webserver. To prevent this, make sure the check for upgrades button is unchecked.
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 20 Commissioning Important Notes to Prepare Customer Responsibilities: Commissioning and Verifying Data Integrity Your installation is not finished until the system commissioning has been completed! Both hardware and software must be commissioned. While on site, confirm that hardware device readings are acceptable by logging into the data acquisition suite DAS. Once your web pages are displaying data, you will also have to verify that these data visualizations accurately represent the data gathered by hardware on site. Materials Needed for Commissioning: Installers will need the following list of items before starting the commissioning process: Laptop computer Digital multimeter Ethernet patch cable
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 21 Hardware Commissioning Common HARDWARE commissioning s are: 1 In the AcquiSuite DAS, confirm all ModBus devices show up in the ModBus device list. Confirm that the data readings are stable, update regularly, and do not report errors. 2 Confirm that revenue grade meters are giving accurate readings. KW should be compared to a secondary source of information, and if necessary amp clamp readings should be taken on each phase to compare to each phase reading on the DAS. Power factor per phase should be reviewed. Appropriate balance of power on each phase should be reviewed. If the Power factor is low, or the phases are unbalanced, it is a sign the meter could be mis-wired. 3 Confirm that weather station data is reasonable for each parameter. Compare to a secondary source of information. Confirm that sensors are placed in a reasonable environment to achieve accurate readings. 4 Confirm that any DC current or string sensors are giving accurate readings. This will require taking a DC amp reading from a multi-meter at the same location as the sensor(s), and comparing to the data to the output in the DAS. 5 Confirm that data is uploading successfully to DECK Monitoring: You can verify a successful upload on the Log File Data > Status page in the DAS. If the upload to DECK was successful, you will see a Last upload at message with a date and time under the Data Upload Schedule heading (see fig. 16, p. 21). (continued on p. 21)
COMMERCIAL INSTALL GUIDE 22 If there is no date and time for the Last upload at message, run a Connection Test (under Testing > Diags). If there are failures on the Connection Test, work with your local network IT contact to verify the Networking > Setup setting for the AcquiSuite. fig. 16 if you are uploading data from a device other than an Obvius 8810 or 8812, please contact DECK Support while you are on site to confirm your gateway is reporting. Software Commissioning Common SOFTWARE commissioning s are: 1 View your dashboard at the dashboard URL you requested on the site survey. Verify that the following information is correct: system size, system installation date, labeling of graph lines and virtual meters, and preset options within Graph tab. 2 If you have already requested customizations on your Dashboard, verify that they have been implemented. If you see any errors, or if you wish to request customizations, contact DECK support. Items that may be customized are: color scheme, company logo, information and photos for the Project Details and About tabs, and choice of equivalencies. For more details, see the DECK document covering Customization Options. 3 Examine your web displays and verify that each data point falls within acceptable ranges for your system size and configuration.
