1 Before Connecting in PowerInspect: FARO Vantage E/S Tracker If using a wired connection via the ethernet cable you will first need to change the IP address of your PC. To do this: Connect ethernet cable from tracker into the PC, and switch tracker on. Change IP address of PC: Open the Control Panel. Open the Network and Sharing Centre and click on the Ethernet link (in this case Ethernet 2) next to Connections: In the Ethernet Status window click on Properties:

2 In the Properties window click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and click on Properties:

3 Select Use the following IP address, and input an address that match s the trackers, apart from the last number which needs to be different, for example : You also need to select a subnet mask, which can be done automatically by simply clicking in the Subnet mask input box after filling out the IP address. A default gateway is not necessary. Click OK and close the control panel windows. If connecting using a wireless connection: Turn on the tracker and the wireless signal from the tracker using the buttons on the back. On your PC connect to the wireless signal from the tracker: Note - If your PC has a firewall active it may be necessary to first disable this before connecting, whether using wireless or wired connection, as this can block the connection between the tracker and PC.

4 Connecting in PowerInspect: Select the Faro Tracker protocol from the Tools tab > Configure > Select : Once selected, go into Parameters In the Connection tab of the Faro Tracker Configuration either: Select Vantage E/S Tracker from Tracker Type drop down:

5 If using a wired connection the IP Address will then be automatically filled in. A username and password are not needed. OR: Select Other (use serial number) from tracker type, and input serial number found on the back of the tracker: Note If using a wireless connection it is recommended to use the serial number method because the IP address of the tracker is different over wireless compared to wired, and harder to find using wireless. Using either wired or wireless only the last 4 digits are required for the Serial Number input, which are also the last 4 digits of the wireless connection name. Once you have done one of these click OK and close the Configure dialogs. Select Connect. A message will appear asking if you want to initialise, select Yes:

6 Initialisation window will open. Once Startup complete shows, tracker is ready to be used: Before taking any measurements you will need to set the sensor. Do this by going to the Tools tab > Probes, and select the relevant sensor:

7 Taking Measurements When you play an item for measurement the tracker remote will open at the bottom of the screen. Gently move the mouse left or right to scroll through the options on the remote, such as taking a Manual or Static point, and click to select: A manual point is for when you are holding the sensor so there will be some slight movement in position, a static point is for when the sensor is perfectly still, i.e. in a holder. A static point is more accurate than a manual point. When finished taking points scroll to Close Remote: If you prefer not to use the remote you can close it and instead use the Track dialog on the Tools tab which has the same commands on:

8 You can turn the tracker remote off by going to Configure > Parameters > Remote tab, and unchecking Show the remote control when measurement begins and hide it when measurement ends :

9 Troubleshooting If the tracker loses connection with the sensor there are a number of ways of reconnecting/finding it again, found on the Track dialog on the Tools tab: Use the Camera Search which will find the sensor if it is within the cameras view: Spiral Search works in a similar way, but with the tracker spiralling outwards to a set limit to try to find the sensor within the area: Open Configure, go to the Camera tab and select Show. From here you can control the tracker manually using the camera view and the mouse of your PC. Clicking on the sensor will guide the tracker onto it:

10 Another method of reconnecting the sensor is to use gestures. These first need to be turned on. To do this open the Tracker Pad from the Track dialog, and select Turn Gesture On:

11 With Gesture on, if you hold the sensor inside the camera s view and move it up and down or side to side a couple of times, the camera will find the sensor and reconnect. Another method to reconnect is to place the sensor on the tracker body and select Go Default Home from the Track dialog, which will then point at the sensor, locking back on: A new home position can be set not on the tracker body itself, for example on a worktop, by moving the sensor to the desired location and selecting New Home from the Track box. Selecting Home will then move the tracker to the position:
